........,every time one of these type incidences happens, I always reflect on what the parents' reaction must have been when they were first notified.  :(

And the national gun violence trauma continues.

Wow. A Black person cant have a good night without "Ninjas" wanting to shoot the place up or down.

Again, Gun Control is not the issue at hand. The issue is "Ninjas" and their lack of morals for Black lives.

Exactly!!! This stuff hurts even when you don't have any connection to the victims.  Anytime you have a young black kid in college, it is a Blessing because so many others are doing absolutely nothing but digging a deeper hole for themselves and others.  Something similar to this took the lives of two young ladies at SU, and  a young man at DSU withing the past year.  Our young brothers and sisters trying to make it out here need to distance themselves from undesirable black youth doing nothing with their lives.   There is no shame in realizing that you are better than them and/or shunning them.

We gotta find ways to give these kids outlets to party and keep them safe. Find ways to keep them entertained and decompressing while keeping them from throwing house parties. They are never safe. With this era of social media, they aren't safe.

That neighborhood/apartment complex has had murders before. It's a haven for robberies and petty crime as well.  I'm thinking that the university should pressure the management to increase security or begin discouraging students from living or visiting there.

When I was in school, we did not deal with 'city folk' at all. The times they came on campus, some mess always jumped off. They don't like college students, and will always look for opportunity to challenge them.

From my understanding, the shooting started when  the troublemakers were asked to leave the private party.

Sadly, for the purposes of self preservation, our youth have to avoid big free for all type gatherings. I really hate saying this but, outside of college events, I don't do large gatherings of young black folk. And we wonder why others shun us. Locally, municipal planners will not book hip hop acts for free city festivals. It has nothing to do with the music but has everything to do with the crowd it attracts. If I were a city planner, I would not schedule them either because I don't want to have anything to do with someone getting killed over some bs.

^^ As a parent of three, I had a 66% graduation rate from colleges/universities. And I reflect back to those days when they were attending Scol. my wife and I most worried about being informed of failing grades or getting information that one of them has a child on the way. Incidents such as these didn't figure into our everyday lives.
Strike...I too share all your sentiments relative to what must be going through the parents' minds...May God bless them...

I'm reminded of a conversation one of our sons shared with me when he was in high school. The class discussion was about what disciplinary actions were handed down when one of them missed curfew. Many of the white classmates talked about certain privileges were taken away. My son's best friend B/M..said when he misses his curfew his mom hugs him because she's glad he made it home safely...

Then he gets his a-- torn up....
Do all the right things for the all the right reasons.Damn the consequences.
