Politics / Interesting Point on Pardons by Impeached Presidents...
« on: January 25, 2021, 02:51:22 PM »
Anyone familiar with this...?

Howard Dean
A pardon can be reversed if the president who issued the pardon was impeached, according to the 1868 revised edition of A Familiar Exposition of the Constitution of the United States, a popular textbook by Supreme Court Associate Justice Joseph Story.

Politics / Proud Boys Say #ErraticTrump is a "TOTAL FAILURE" Ha! Ha!

‘A Total Failure’: The Proud Boys Now Mock Trump
Members of the far-right group, who were among Donald Trump’s staunchest fans, are calling him “weak” as more of them were charged for storming the U.S. Capitol.

Looks like the P--- Boys now realize they got conned.

Poor babies!!!!!!

We tried to tell 'em!!!

The Proud Boys’ anger toward Mr. Trump has heightened after he did nothing to help those in the group who face legal action for the Capitol violence. On Wednesday, a Proud Boy leader, Joseph Biggs, 37, was arrested in Florida and charged with unlawful entry and corruptly obstructing an official proceeding in the riot. At least four other members of the group also face charges stemming from the attack.

“When Trump told them that if he left office, America would fall into an abyss, they believed him,” Arieh Kovler, a political consultant and independent researcher in Israel who studies the far right, said of the Proud Boys. “Now that he has left office, they believe he has both surrendered and failed to do his patriotic duty.”

May the #Loser45 "coalition" continue to crumble....

And, y'all,

You know Olds..t is somewhere trying to figure out how he will admit - without admitting - that we were correct when we told him from jump street that #Loser45 was a ConMan, not a Conservative, and that one day, Olds..t would regret EVER associating himself with the sociopathic LIAR-in-Chief.

...I kept waiting for a Dem to say to a Repub who had just urged "unity,"

I yield 5 seconds to my Republican colleague who just spoke to say, in the spirit of unity, the 5 words forbidden by Trump,...

It would have been perfect if EVERY Dem had made that offer to the Repub who spoke before them.

Republicans condemn 'scheme' to undo election for Trump
Rep. Liz Cheney of Wyoming, the third-ranking House Republican, warned in a memo to colleagues that objections to the Electoral College results “set an exceptionally dangerous precedent.”

Paul Ryan excoriates planned GOP effort to challenge Biden's Electoral College win as 'anti-democratic and anti-conservative'

Former House Speaker Paul Ryan excoriated fellow Republicans Sunday in a rare statement that called planned GOP efforts to challenge President-elect Joe Biden's win "anti-democratic and anti-conservative."

Ryan, a Republican from Wisconsin who served as House Speaker from 2015 to 2019, has seldom weighed in on events since leaving office, but issued a lengthy statement decrying Republican plans to object to certifying the Electoral College results in a joint session of Congress on Wednesday.

From Charleston to Pittsburgh, an Arc of Premeditated American Tragedy
Jelani Cobb    November 01, 2018
The New Yorker

Jelani is one VERY sharp Brother!!

The architects of these atrocities are white men whose fury was amplified in the echo chamber of the Internet. Notably, both shooters conceived of their actions as a form of self-defense. Robert Bowers, the man accused of the Pittsburgh shootings, reportedly wrote, in his last post on Gab, a social-media network favored by the alt-right, that he would not stand by while his people were “slaughtered.” In Charleston, just before Tywanza Sanders, a twenty-six-year-old member of Emanuel A.M.E., died, he asked the gunman, Dylann Roof, why he was committing murder. Roof replied, “Because you all are raping our women and taking over the world.” Roof’s language was striking because, just a day earlier, in a gaudy, absurdist spectacle in Manhattan, Trump had declared his Presidential candidacy, citing a scourge of Mexican rapists as part of his motivation.

Albeit in vastly different ways, Trump and Roof were responding to a common Zeitgeist of racial paranoia....

Politics / O-dan Legal Eagles: What is the Story on a "Petition" to SCOTUS?

QUOTE from Lin Wood, whose suit in Federal Court was dismissed for lack of "standing."

11th Circuit ruled against me in case I filed. I filed as a voter. I filed as soon as I learned about illegal rules by @GaSecofState. My vote was illegally diluted & will be again in runoff. I have been denied equal protection.I am preparing petition for certiorari to SCOTUS.

What's the deal?  Legit approach, or not?

California men accused of voter fraud for attempts to register thousands of homeless people

Two California men have been charged with voter fraud for allegedly submitting voter registration applications on behalf of 8,000 homeless people during this year’s election cycle.

Carlos Antonio De Bourbon Montenegro and Marcos Raul Arevalo carried out their scheme from July to October in conjunction with Montenegro’s bid for mayor of the city of Hawthorne, according to a statement from the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office released on Tuesday.

Some additional notes:

No fraudulent votes were actually cast because they were caught immediately by the system. They only sent the applications.

The defendant Montenegro was trying to run for mayor of Hawthorne. He is part of the Nationalist Republican Alliance, which is based on a Right Wing, Conservative party in El Salvador by the same name.

This list is a good start...

America's flawed democracy: the five key areas where it is failing
The US system has survived four years of a norm-busting president by the skin of its teeth – which areas need most urgent attention?

These MIGHT have been addressed in 2021-2024, IF there had been an even larger popular vote and Electoral College win by Dems.

Little to no change now, IMO.

Rudy-" voter fraud."
Judge-"Are you alleging fraud?"
Rudy- "This is not a fraud case."

Mr. Giuliani... said the Trump camp’s complaint shouldn’t be dismissed because what’s happening in Pennsylvania is part of “widespread, nationwide voter fraud” and not an isolated case. The campaign has not yet provided proof of that claim.
What’s not in the complaint, Mr. Donovan said, are any claims that a voter cast more than one ballot that was counted, had theirs wrongly rejected or that anyone ineligible to vote did so successfully.

Masha Gessen: "The GOP Has Turned Into An Autocratic Party"

Let's try to put "Confirmation Bias" aside as much as possible,...
I am interested in the opinions of fellow posters - especially on the first "half" of the discussion re: "Autocratic Breakthroughs," etc.

For starters, I find her analysis and historical comparisons on point.

The second half is also interesting, but it delves more into party politics.
