Being number 6 in attendance for HBCUs is not bad during a down year.
Considering our tumultuous season on and off the field last year, that's an impressive number. It's still higher than 90% of the conference including four out of five MEAC football co-champs.
As far as deficits, there isn't one FCS athletic program that didn't operate one last year. So FAMU's "problems" are not unique. They are consistent with NCAA statistical trend. Furthermore, D2 is not an option because revenue would actually decrease (no more BCS or NCAA tourney distribution money) and the NCAA statistical trend is that expenses exceed revenue on that level, too. Similar to FCS, zero D2 programs operated without a deficit last year.
And here it is. Some folks act like FAMU is not ready for the SWAC. Bless their hearts. I hope FAMU stays in the MEAC, it is a great school.
Nobody ever stated that FAMU was not ready for the SWAC, we stated that with the problems that they've been having as far as APR and the athletic department, so right now they're not all that appealing. We already have APR issues that we’re trying to clear up, we don’t want to add another school with Alabama State type potential and the same type of constant negative press.
