I read somewhere from a (possibly) reliable source that some guy in VA is sitting on a bunch of name trademarks.

Also, that's just fan art. An official new name hasn't been announced yet.

I believe that it's true.

Now....thoughts on the Atlanta 'BRAVES' and that silly tomahawk chop?

It was dumb when FSU started it, and its MORE dumb for the Braves fans to do it.  The team said that they are reviewing it since they aren't changing their name.

Interesting all this MEAC history coming from SWAC school members. :tiptoe:

It's not as much about history, but about observation. Stevie Wonder can see that something is not right about operation of the conference.

I could write a thesis on this situation but why bother? Too many egos and opinions on social media doing that.

I sense an almost glee coming from certain sections of HBCU sports world. I have no ill will toward any of the teams leaving. I wish them the success they crave by spreading their wings.

Do you think stagnation was one of them or the conference not changing its format to maximize member schools revenue???
WSSU screwed that last part up.

When Savannah State moved to the SIAC and Winston Salem State decided to go back to the CIAA it destroyed the possibility of splitting into two divisions.

Was it ever presented to them in order to keep them from leaving the conference or was it already made up in WSSU mind to drop back down to the CIAA???

One more time.  We folded because the lazy @$$ man in charge at the time didn't want to do it.  He NEVER did anything to make it happen, especially since he inherited it from his self-created enemy..........  IMHO he likely lied about supporting D-1 in his interview. The job was for him to "complete his resume."

In that he is a financial expert he made it look like we were "broke" to those naive enough to believe, or glad to hear it. Was it presented?  Of course. They even moved the basketball tournament to Winston-Salem because we were coming.

Let us not be ridiculous.  NCCU will continue playing NCA&T anytime the schedule allows.  Athletics is still business and the bottom line for both institutions and I doubt either AD is emoting to the point of stupidity.  Them leaving hasn't affected my self esteem in the least. They play, I'm  there.  NUFF SAID?  Still a major rival that contractually added the game  with BigSouth every season against NCCU.    Hypocrisy  goes only so far when $$$$$$$   is involved.     Maybe some on this board will scream but they will get over it.  :tiptoe:

Wrong. WSSU VS. A&T has proven you wrong.

Actually it didn't. WSSU was offered.They declined. It's not A&T didn't try.

Stop.

One of the reasons WSSU and SSU were invited to the MEAC were due to travel costs. The goal was to create divisions to reduce travel for most teams and to create a MEAC championship game for additional revenue.

Savannah state and Winston Salem not sticking around hurt those chances, with the additional inability to attract regional PWIS, led to multiple studies to be completed by multiple schools that determined leaving the meac would help save money.

Just speak to your admins about this. Just about all members have studies that say the same thing. Gameday didn’t pull this out of their a**es. Even Dr. Cavill agrees.

Thank you WC.  I even have to get some of our people to understand that.  They don't even remember that the MEAC moved the basketball tournament to Winston too.

55, I will say that we were not as broke as folks have been led to believe.  Where we were short fell on the person that sold that to everyone.

Oldschoolram - All HBCUs are broke... not just WSSU. I just have the nerve to say so while others are hiding from the truth. Example, A&T claims to have money, but yet they drop a whole conference just to save $500,000. Most of our schools offer the minimal number of sports, denying our students a full college experience, just to stay on the levels we're on. Yes, we all are broke.

I know that. That has been the case for years. But we were not as broke as That Man led folks to believe.  We were in no worse shape than anyone else in the conference.  As one Eagle noted "Winston would have been fine." The one thing TM did right was to get rid of the bad AD we had during the transition.  HE was our biggest problem before TM came to office. HE was the reason I was against going D1.

Would have loved to see Chester vs Kermit Blount.

He may not have been the best, but he had to be the most spectacular.

For some reason I enjoyed going to the Central vs Fairmont Heights games the most!

fairmont heights has a "brand new" high school now and the new gym is very nice.  i've refereed quite a few high school basketball games there...

We probably crossed paths a few times and didn't know it.  I did ref basketball one year there.  I quit because..................

its possible, but i do games across all of pg county which is a pretty big county i'm sure you know.  so i'm not at fairmont heights on a consistent basis, i might do 4 or 5 games there every season...

I wasn't referring to Fairmont Heights specifically.  As the Transportation guy, I knew all the ADs and several coaches. I reffed and umped all over the DMV including SOUTHERN Maryland.

He was a BAD man!

Never heard of him until State cheated to get him.  THEN I found out why.  Everyone in the Triad area just KNEW that Ray Harrison was the best in the class of 71.  Hell, he was an All-American in two sports.

Then East-West All-star camp comes to town. Brothers came back to our side saying if you think Raynard is bad, you need to come to the West practice. OMG as they would say now.

As fate would have it, they both turned the game out.  Aggies, one of your greats was an opponent.  SOME guy named Allen Spruill. ;)

This looks like it's based on their professional careers.  We all know folks who would be on there otherwise.
