Sports Forum / Re: Florida A&M in the FCS playoffs was clear snub
« on: November 22, 2022, 06:42:33 PM »
I think all ya'll post are decent but fail to address the elephant in the room. We need to beat somebody in the playoffs when we do get a bid. Most of the time we are just happy to get a bid and then get crushed in the playoffs. We also need to schedule "good" playoff caliber FCS schools and beat some of them. Sure we have beaten some patsy's, but not the Montana's or North Dakota States. Until all this happens, they will never take us seriously.

I've been on this message board since 1999 and THIS is the main issue we've discussed in the past.^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Did FAMU get snubbed......................? I don't think so. Everyone knows the game by now. Either beat some good non-conference teams or be completely dominant with no losses in your conference and non-conference schedule. Otherwise, you ain't gettin' in the NCAA playoffs. It's that simple! ::)

You do realize that in the USA, there's very little interest in soccer? It's much higher than it was 20-30 years ago, but our best athletes are NOT participating in the sport at this point still. So, no one cares, for the most part, how the US team did against Wales.

You think those were Wales best athletes?

Wales is a rugby country.

I don't know. But what I DO know is in the US, soccer falls way down the list for interest by young people. So, by default you DO NOT get the best athletes to participate. I've known a few guys who played soccer as a little kid, only to switch over to football and basketball by the time they're in 6th grade. Other countries, soccer is AT LEAST the second most popular sport. Here in the US, it's probably 20th.

Again, all you need to do is look at the media coverage about today's game, and that will tell you how much people care. ::)

Wow. It finally caught up with us.
???.......WHAT finally "caught up with us"?  Being penalized for being successful?  If YOU understand why the white folks who run state supported institutions in the Tar heel are fining your alma mater for being successful, please explain it to the rest of us.

To ensure qualified North Carolinians can receive the greatest benefit from UNC System schools, out-of-state admissions at most campuses are currently capped at 18%.

A&T has gone over the 18% mark for over 20 years or more.  The UNC System has always forgiven us.

The limit was raised to 25% and now is going to 35%.

The conservatives are making a power move.  The UNC System Board of Govenors has been messy for a while now.

Don't you think it would look somewhat bad for a state supported schools to have a huge out of state student enrollment? At the rate A&T is going, they could be a 50% in short order.  Taxpayers will begin to question the merits of supporting a school with that many out of state students. I know they pay a higher tuition, but he state builds those academic builds.  Don't get me wrong I'm very happy for A&T, but I get what the board is trying to do.

As someone who works in academia, I have to agree here.......................especially if A&T has been warned. A state university's primary mission is to provide education to its citizens. I'm not saying what A&T is doing is bad, but when you think about the amount of money they're bringing in by charging those students out of state fees, I'll bet they're making more than the $2 million fine.................................which is probably why the fine was instituted years ago.

These venture capitalists would love nothing more than to create a rental society where folks are gonna be paying several thousand a month (with no rent price control) to live in a luxury shoe box.

Last night I was hanging out with a friend of mine at the Americana shopping center in Glendale (if you're not familiar, think of something similar to Atlantic Station in Atlanta). It's basically a mixed use shopping center with restaurants, movie theater, clothing stores, and apartments. Here's a view if you want to check it out...............

https://media.vrbo.com/lodging/22000000/21120000/21111300/21111245/7e1f814a.f10.jpg

So, as we were leaving we looked up at the apartments and started to wonder how much they were. So, she pulled them up on her phone and here's what we saw....................................... :o

750 sq feet, one bedroom - $3800/month

1075 sq feet, two bedroom - $5300/month

1740 sq feet, three bedroom - $12,000/month

This is not sustainable in Los Angeles county.........................even in Glendale.

That's DEFINITELY the case here in Los Angeles County.

My HOA is $420 a year and the price for that home in the clip is more than what I'm paying with my new construction home at 5 bedroom and 3 full baths. I'm 25 minutes outside atlanta. That's crazy.

that's all...

Well, if you want to live in Southern California, you have to pay whatever the property is valued at. In San Fernando Valley, the price for that condo is actually pretty good...........................especially considering the HOA fee is only $400. Most places in Tarzana are $600/month+. If you live 25 minutes outside Atlanta, you're in a pretty rural area so, no wonder your house is less than $400,000.

I'm just tripping off the fact that the HOA is only $100/month. Out here where I live, I'm in the market for a condominium. I've been pre-approved for around $400K. For that price the best thing you can get is around 800 square feet. But you will pay a MINIMUM of $400/month in HOA fees...............some I've seen for $600/month. I can't even imagine what you're getting for a $100/month HOA fee.

$600/month for an HOA ought to be criminal. My HOA is just under $100 a month and that includes pool, gym, and clubhouse access.  They also take care of non-residential grounds and we have walkways, a park, and ampitheatre.

Pool, gym and clubhouse? Nah. You ain't gettin' that out here. Most you'll get is a subpar workout room and groundskeepers for the exterior of the building. I must admit that most of the HOAs that are $600+ are closer to the heart of the city. I'm thirty miles from downtown Los Angeles so our HOAs are at around $400/month. I imagine in a couple of years they'll be up to $600 though. Here's an example of the type of place I'm looking at.........................

Luckily, the prices are coming down because of the interest rates. During the summer, that place was probably right at close to $400K.

Dang Ivan, maybe it's just me but those are looking like the projects. And they want that much? Sorry but I'll stay right here in Carolina.

Projects? ::)

Man stop it. You know good and well they don't look that bad.
For that price, that's one of the nicest places I've seen in this area.

Just because you can do something doesn't mean you should. There is nothing an 18 year old and 30+ year old have in common.

You cant say that for sure bear.

Beyonce was this girls age when she started dating 32 year old Jay Z

20 years later

did they not have enough in common to make a successful marriage and family?

Wait..................................what?

Beyonce and Jay-Z weren't dating till around 2003. At that time he was 33 and she was 22. What are you talking about? ::)

43
You just have no idea how futile that is, with the people who run Morehouse ::) ::)

44
Not sure how often it happens at hotels. It was a couple of summers ago that folks came up dead at a couple of resorts. Thats the most I had heard of.  But this was an AirBNB.

It pays to travel with your own carbon monoxide detector. They are available at home depot lowes etc as well as online. Might sound troublesome or extra but sounds like it is worth it.

I didn't know you could actually purchase a portable one. :o

Where is coach Freeman's alma mater, J.T.? We kinda put DII coaches in a conundrum when we hire them but don't give them what they need in order to be successful. I don't know coach Freeman's situation, but "da House" has funding enough to recruit some serious ballers. Of course, many of our ballers don't know the rich history behind Morehouse.

Freeman played at Tennessee State. He's a BIG BLUE Tiger.

Morehouse could do more but won't.  So we will get what we get.

I salute Freeman for hanging in there for 10 years like he did.

Exactly JT!
It's not gonna matter who the next coach is because the school won't invest in the program. ::)
