Sports Forum / Golden Rams Baseball Open the Season at Columbus State
« on: February 07, 2023, 07:42:23 PM »
https://asugoldenrams.com/news/2023/2/7/golden-rams-baseball-open-the-season-at-columbus-state.aspx

The Albany State Golden Rams baseball team will open the 2023 season against the Columbus State Cougars on Wednesday, February 8, in Columbus, Georgia.  The first pitch is scheduled at 5:00 pm.

The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) has announced its 2023 Baseball Preseason Teams as voted on by the league's head coaches and sports information directors.  The Golden Rams of Albany State (32-16, 24-5 SIAC) are tied at seven preseason selections with the Badgers of Spring Hill College.

The Rams are returning most of the hitters from a team that ranked sixth in the country in batting average (.350) last season and second in the country in runs per game (10.7).  Some key returners for the 2023 season include: utility player and third baseman Nathan Lloyd, starting pitcher Jeremiah Reddell, second baseman Hill Corley, outfielders Lavoisier Fisher and Zane Ross, and designated hitter Tucker Jordan.

Coach Hemmings had this to say about the 2023 season, "I am very excited about the 2023 season. We had a great fall and had a good group that really worked hard.  We also renovated most of the ballpark and added some nice touches with new netting, a new warning track, updates to the press box and concession stand and will have 300 new chairback seats installed before opening day. It was not only a good fall on the field, but the Rams carried a 3.33 team GPA in the classroom this year. Coach Reynolds did an amazing job with this recruiting class. His tireless work has paid off, and we cannot wait to see them in action in a few weeks. Coach Reynolds has a great eye for talent and really connects with the recruits. I am also excited about the addition of Coach Luis Martinez. He was a huge help with his knowledge on the infield and brings an infectious personality that the guys love playing for. I hope we can return to winning a SIAC championship and competing in a National Regional."

ALBANY - Albany State's new head coach Quinn Gray said in his first press conference that you would be impressed with his first recruiting class and the coach was right. On the job just a few weeks, Gray and his staff pulled 22 plus new football players into the Albany State football family.   Not only did the Rams get 17 high school letters of intent, they also added seven players who are transferring from other colleges. One of the most interesting recruits might be quarterback Isaiah Knowles who is transferring from the Naval Academy.

Knowles, a graduate of Seffner Christian near Tampa, Fla and was a two-time All-State quarterback and is the school's all-time record holder in all passing categories. He threw 91 touchdown passes during his high school career.

"Today has been a great day for the Golden Rams," Gray said Wednesday. "National Signing Day is one of those days that you think you're going to have a great day until you don't, so… https://www.albanyherald.com/sports/naval-academy-quarterback-local-players-among-20-plus-signees-for-albany-state-football/article_50bd25b2-a35f-11ed-97af-5734156ff2b8.html

Should be a good measuring stick. This shows Tennessee State isn’t afraid to play them. You’ll never know how good your team really is until you play some of the big boys of your division. I applaud them.

Shannon Sharpe seems to believe Tony Romo was about to say N-word during AFC Championship broadcast

NFL fans are nearly unanimous in believing Tony Romo has regressed as a broadcaster. But Shannon Sharpe and others seem to think he came really close to getting banned from ever entering a broadcast booth again.

General Discussion Forum / Re: Top 5 HBCUS and Why?????
« on: January 30, 2023, 12:19:03 PM »
It’s our job to educate if we want to. Most people can smell bull shyt a mile away. These days everybody wants to be a rock star and they will use any means necessary. The days of looking things up in encyclopedias are gone. Google HBCU’s and you can learn about any HBCU in the nation. Don’t play stupid or ignorant. If you’re trying to start a new YouTube channel just say so. People read about the Best HBCU’s every year. Everybody wants to be an analyst, commentator, reporter, breaking news person or whatever. Be more thoughtful and original in your approach.

A Statement from Head Football Coach Quinn Gray

Dear Ramily,

Let me start with a humble apology. An apology for not honoring the tradition and history of ASU and for letting many of you down. I didn't uphold the Ramily standard that I know you expect. Please know that my decision to speak with a student that did not meet your expectations was unacceptable. I only wanted the best for our team, athletes, and institution when I invited the student to visit ASU. As I say to our players, "there is a consequence to every action." The consequences of my actions brought pain to our University. I was trying to help a student get back in competition, and in my haste, I did not consider the impact the decision would have on all of you. Frankly, it wasn’t my place to use ASU as the platform for redemption in this case. I regret that I used flawed judgment. If given the opportunity, I will do better.

ASU expects excellence. The president has made it clear that my actions did not meet that standard. It was never my intent to misrepresent what ASU stands for nor to ignore the rich history of this institution. I am fully committed to the University's mission of supporting academic excellence and student success.

Being accepted into the Ramily is something that you have to earn. The Ramily embodies the spirit, authenticity, and love forged from the toil of giants before me. My actions caused you to question my commitment to our institution and our ancestors. As the consequences go, I hope to find a way back into the Ramily.

Without a doubt, I will be all in. Go Rams.

Quinn Gray, Sr.
Head Football Coach
ASU Golden Rams Football

I don’t mind my school giving him an opportunity, but is he really so naive as to not know what that word means and the possible implications or consequences of what may happen if you say it. Also, If you’re not going to sign with Albany State what is your reason/purpose for posting that an HBCU made you an offer after saying the N word?

Sports Forum / Re: And just like that. The Ed Reed Era is over.
« on: January 21, 2023, 03:06:23 PM »
Oh Wow! LOL… Dam! I couldn’t get through the whole press conference. I will go back and try to finish it. Mr Reed may have good coaching skills but he definitely does not have good or tactful speaking skills. I’ve heard of him but never paid much attention to who he really is. I thought that was a skit from Martin’s “Jerome in the house”. You know, Ro-Me Rome. Sometimes it’s what you say, how you say it and how you present it. One thing for sure, Deion Sanders he is not. He wants to be a Drum Major and ain’t even in the band yet. Nothing wrong with that but you got to make sure you get in house first. He makes me think that he might shoot up the place if he doesn’t get his way.

Sent to me by a friend. Origins unknown:

^^^ This his what I was thinking. What the hell was he expecting? Surely he wasn’t thinking he was getting a P5 job.  My thoughts are he can’t hang, he wants out , and trashing BCU is his way of trying to get out. I would make him suffer the consequences of his words or pay his way out.

This subject has really taken its course. Because one showed admiration for the win, I don’t understand how a verbal/written support can mean some kind of Super Great love fest for a team.  People have rooted/have not rooted for all kinds of things for one reason or another at one time or another. Doesn’t mean they are going all the way out for support.

If I’m going to watch college football I pull for my home state even if I don’t like them as much as i like my HBCU. Dam sho ain’t gon pull for Bama, LSU when I can pull for my own home state. It’s racist Georgia first then racist everyone else afterwards.

I JUST WANTED TO SHARE THIS POST I READ FROM YOUTUBE TODAY CONCERNING THIS INCIDENT.
I WOULD THINK THE MEDICAL PROFESSION KNOW MORE ABOUT WHAT THEY ARE DOING TO HELP THIS YOUNG MAN RECOVER WITH MINIMAL OR NO DAMAGE.

I just want everyone to know that this happened to my sister last June when she was walking to lunch with her friends. One of her friends caught her, so she didn't hit the ground. A man from a local gym heard the screams and ran out with a defibrillator and they began the CPR process. When she arrived at the hospital, she needed to be defribbed again. She was placed into a medically induced coma for 48 hours to allow her organs to "rest". Luckily for us, my sister was successfully brought out of the coma with ALL brain function and no heart muscle damage. My message to everyone here is that it looks far worse than it actually can be. The cardiac arrest happened on a Wednesday, and my sister walked out of that hospital the next Wednesday. Hopefully, Hamlin has the same recovery. ❤💯

Not anytime soon.  Coach Prime will have to make sure he can beat the brakes off of JSU first. Can’t be a close score. Even then he might not want to risk it. One reason why he didn’t want to play a top notch FCS school is because that big  new contract might not have been so large or even worse. He might not be head coach of a large FBS school.
