Just because you schedule a PWC does not mean you will be kicking everyone's a-- that come your way...If your program is not up to par all around you will just be losing to them every year.

Basically.

Simply schedule those FCS schools during the regular season (instead of collecting those FBS beatdown checks) if you all really want to compete with them.

Exactly. That's what we've always tried to do here at Fort Valley and Albany State. We know that, in order, for us to compete against the schools in our division, we have to get familiar with their style of play. That's why we complain about scheduling HBCU Division IAA opponents because they don't benefit us on our level nor help us whenever it comes down to the playoffs. That's why I am glad next year's schedule will have a mixture of both Gulf South and South Atlantic and maybe an HBCU team.

that's all...
Well GA Southern and Ga Tech run the same offense and maybe defense, so SCSU had a feeling of what to expect from GSU.  The major problem I saw against TECH was the 3-4 defense is not the best defense to play against the flexbone. The other thing I saw was poor QB play.  Playing Tech did not hurt SCSU at all.

See, that's my point.  SCSU has played against FBS teams in the regular season and FCS teams in the playoffs yet their coaches have not made the adjustments nor have they learned any lessons from those games.  These coaches flat out suck.  Every year, we are like a Tyler Perry movie....same storyline.

How do you justify the Legacy Bowl or any bowl game for that matter that features the MEAC to "magically" improve coaching at MEAC schools?

Do you feel that a bowl game with the MEAC will generate the millions in net revenue each schools need to improve facilities and hire more coaches with experience to teach fundamentals in all sports, not just football?

Do you feel that the post season, SCG, Heritage Bowl and/or playoffs have improved the coaching at JSU?

I ask these questions because your OP in this thread makes me think that you feel that the Legacy would improve all coaching at all MEAC schools.

Not for or against the Bowl Game or trying to debate with you on anything, I just want to understand your logic behind your statement.

1.  The Legacy Bowl will not "magically improve our coaching".  I feel that we need to leave the playoffs alone until we raise the funds to afford quality, competent coaching staffs that can effectively coach the talent we already have.  Getting quality coaches is an individual effort for each school; not the conference or a bowl game.

2.  Jackson State had poor coaching until we hired Coach Comegy.  His staff was competent enough to coach our teams to 2 SCGs.  When we fired his homeboy Woody (offenive coordinator), our level of play picked back up.

3.    Not one time did I insenuate that playing in the post-season would improve a school's coaching.  It definately has not helped SCSU or any other MEAC team that has participated in the playoffs in the last 10 years.

4.  The Legacy Bowl is a better option for us, collectively, right now because it will be financially beneficial to each inidividual school in both conferences.  Its a whole lot better than routinely getting embarassed to these other FCS schools.  Until we fundraise enough money to hire better coaching staffs, we will continue to see this same, tired movie every year.

it is obvious that the coaching staff at scsu will not get them out of the first round.  scsu has a decision to make.  keep the coach that wins in the regular season or find a coach that will get the team past the first round and possibly get them into the championship game.  the leadership of the school has to make that commitment.  so far they have not.

Another reason why I am in favor of us choosing a coach from a conference who knows how to win in the playoffs.

Well-said.  All this recycling HBCU coaches has to stop.  The only 2 guys who coached BCF that can get the job done at NCCU (undefeated) are Rod Broadway and Doug Williams.

Buddy is a very beloved figure at SCSU so you are right.     Hopefully, this loss will be a "bucket of cold water" for him, his staff, and the university.  College football is a business.

It some of those JSU, Grambling, and Southern and TU teams participated in the playoffs, we would have had serveral wins by now.  However, some of those games are $1 million for each team.  You just can't walk away from that.

Exactly.  Those Grambling (2000,01,02,03,05), JSU (2000,01,02,06,07,2010) and Southern (2003, 2005) teams of the past 10 years were scary and would have had quite a bit of success in the playoffs.  Grambling and Southern are not going to give up their national stage on NBC for the playoffs and I do not blame them.  You cannot replace that kind of marketing for your school.

Exactly!  I tried to preach that during the those Legacy Bowl debates but I was called a "coon".

More realistically, if we ain't going to pay, we need to follow the WSSU method; or follow the Pioneer League method.  With half of either conference dedicated to actually spending enough to win; we're going to continue to have these issues.

Exactly, bruh.  I am not trying to smack the MEAC.  I am just stating facts.  Even though it is what it is, I refuse to simply lay down and die.  We need to come up with new ideas of fundraising to get on their level.  We need to wake up and realize that we're the only ones who are primary relying on our alumni for financial support while our counterparts are tapping into businesses and the private sector.  Lets get with the program, fam.

Inferiority complex at its best.

Bruh, did you bother to read anything that I posted?    I do not have an inferiority complex.  I am a realist.  I see things for the way they are and adjust accordingly.

Humm, let me see, we played Appt. State, Ga State and ODU.  In the near future we should be more competitive with the coaching change and more stability with the program.  For the last five years, we had to schedule whoever was willing to play us.  I am not going to get on the hbcus that refused to play us during our transition.  Now that the MEAC is splitting, we will have more abilities to schedule these types of games that you are talking about.

Aye, I give NCCU their props for having the balls to schedule App. State and Georgia State.    I also know that several MEAC schools (who shall remain nameless) did run from NCCU after the Eagles won the BCF title in 2006.    SWAC schools do routinely schedule FCS schools even though we do not recieve a bid to the playoffs.  I hope you MEAC folks collectively wake up, see reality for what it is, and adjust accordingly.  This is not smack.  Our brand is taking a SERIOUS beating, both on and off the field.

Wow!  Dude said it is embarrassing to lose in the playoffs but he doesn't think it is embarrassing to lose to a div. 2 team.  Now that ought to tell you something.

It was very embarassing for Texas Southern and Alabama State to lose to Tuskegee but I am no fool.  Tuskegee is not your ordinary D2 HBCU.  They have some big jokers on their squad who can flat out play with any team in the MEAC or SWAC.

I am looking at the bigger picture.  Our HBCU brand is annually going down the drain when we get our a--es whooped in these playoffs.  It is hurting our image to routinely slut ourselves out for an FBS check THEN make it to the playoffs and get beat down every year.  We need to address these issues effectively by putting up the money to hire real coaching staffs and fund the maximum amount of scholarships.  The playing field is not even.  Wake the hell up!

Branj, don't get it twisted bruh.  I will always root for and support HBCUs (like I did today) but I am no fool.  I saw reality for what it was and have been preaching it all season long.  SCSU and BCU have no business in the playoffs because their coaches suck.  Most of our coaches in BCF suck.  I really did want SCSU to win but there has to come a point when we all should stop "wishing on a star" and tap into reality.

Punchy, the Legacy Bowl is a way better option right now until we all get our coaching staffs up to par.  There is nothing wrong with scheduling those FCS schools during the regular season, then playing in a post-season bowl game (which will be financially beneficial to every school in both conferences) than to be getting our a--es EMBARASSED every year in the playoffs.  This is going to make 11 STRAIGHT YEARS without an HBCU winning a playoff game.  Wake up!

Ever since August when those Legacy Bowl debates popped up, I tried to warn you guys about those playooffs.  It is NOT that we do not have the same amount of talent.  Its the COACHING.  We will ALWAYS get out-coached by other FCS schools unless we ante up on some money to hire some real, competent coaching staffs.  The last 2 seasons that SCSU was in the playoffs they lost because of poor coaching and mistakes on fundamentals.

I told you guys that if you want to see how good you really are, just schedule those FCS programs (GA Southern, App. State, Delaware, Montana, etc.) during the regular season but yall did not want to listen.  I tried to tell yall that GA Southern was going to beat the hell out of SCSU because SCSU was not good.  They are MEAC-good.  Trust me when I say that UNH is going to beat the living sh*t out of BCU, with or without their QB.  Yall have no business in the playoffs because your coaches are not good.
