All Tarik Cohen ever needed was a chance

Henry Bushnell Yahoo Sports• November 20, 2018

CHICAGO — Before Tarik Cohen became the Human Joystick — before the Chicago Bears‘ do-everything back was bamboozling All-Pro safeties, landing back-flip catches, rewriting record books, or arousing Soldier Field – he was sitting at a computer in his fourth-period class at Bunn High School, dangerously close to his teacher’s desk, composing emails. Clandestine emails.

“What’s up!” he’d begin after slapping his name in the subject line, operating with caution for fear of the teacher’s watchful eye. He’d conclude with a link to a highlight reel that would hypnotize the uninitiated. In between, a plea, to any college coach that would listen: Give me a chance.

There was an unspoken desperation about the exercise. But this, by the winter of senior year, is what Cohen’s recruitment had come to. He had played his last down of high school football. He’d captivated a rural North Carolina town of 344, and compiled his exploits into a motion picture to dangle in front of college talent evaluators. All he needed was one bite.

Arrest made after black campaign worker harassed, threatened at NC early-voting location

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - Police arrested a man accused of harassing and threatening to assault a GOP campaign worker at an early-voting location in Charlotte Wednesday afternoon.

According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, the incident happened around 2:30 p.m. at a voting location in the 11000 block of South Tryon Street.

Officers arrived in response to an armed man threatening a campaign worker at a voting location.

Officials say when officers arrived on the scene, a black man said he was working at the voting location when he saw the armed man in the parking lot with a camera taking pictures or recording the polling location.

Police say the armed man approached the campaign worker, and began hurling racial slurs, according to a report from CMPD.

The report stated the campaign worker said the armed man threatened to assault him before lifting his shirt and displaying a handgun which was in a holster on his belt.

He told police the armed man never assaulted him or attempted to remove the handgun from the holster, the report stated.

Panthers sign free safety Eric Reid

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Carolina Panthers on Thursday signed Pro Bowl free agent safety Eric Reid, who was not re-signed by the San Francisco 49ers in the offseason amidst the controversy of his grievance with the NFL.

In 2016, Reid joined former San Francisco quarterback Colin Kaepernick in kneeling during the national anthem to protest racial equality and police brutality. Last season, the NFLPA filed a grievance with the NFL on Reid's behalf, alleging that team owners and the league, influenced by President Donald Trump, colluded to prevent his employment because of his protests.
