1) Campbell is playing FOUR HBCUs in one season, and will soon be in the CAA with two others. They are playing more HBCU football programs than A&T, Hampton and Tennessee State.

2) They are playing in two of the biggest homecoming games of the year, doesn't it make sense for our audience (fans of those programs) to know who Campbell is?

3) Campbell is a team that is competing for the same level of players that our FCS programs are -- they are worth keeping an eye on.

4) The data from our article this summer shows that Campbell has a fan base that will read content about their team, which helps us bring in revenue. Sadly there are far too few HBCU fanbases that don't engage with content on their favorite team.

At the end of the day its a good, unique story and we'd be doing a disservice if we didn't take a deeper look. Hopefully, this clears some things up

So...Covering HBCUs don't pay the bills.

Didn’t say that. There are simply some schools that carry their share and then some. But this is a game with national interest and having as many people as we have in NC we’d be foolish to ignore it.

No big secret but the length and totals are huge .

Nice but per the release this is PART of MJ’s 100 million to the black community which was announced in 2020.

Still, great stuff.

True^^^  But I have learned to consider the source.  Rumors are not always true.  Weren't they the first to report that Howard was leaving the MEAC?

"Preparing to join the CAA..." quote the story correctly.

Sports Forum / Re: CIAA Tournament to extend Baltimore stay
« on: June 03, 2022, 08:11:16 PM »
The CIAA has to be careful not to create a tournament the simply rely on the older fans to attend. This move out of North Carolina is doing that. They need to keep it in North Carolina where most of the students are. They need to be trying to get new student fans for the future. At some point you have to plant news trees to continue to have fruit.

Just saying!

Students showed up in Baltimore just as much as Charlotte, if not more. Consider the fact students didn’t get in free in EITHER city and there were a lot more things to demand their attention in Charlotte outside the arena. Schools just have to be proactive about getting students up there, as our alma mater did.

The CIAA Tournament is also about recruiting HS students and our schools have a unique opportunity to do so in a new place. Give it a chance, they WANT the CIAA there.

“Before coming (to Fayetteville State) I didn’t know much about the school or the program, but I just knew that I didn’t want to go to Tuskegee or Fort Valley State,” Lane told HBCU Gameday.
???…….I was really enjoying reading this story. Thought it was inspiring. And the fact this boy is from Montezuma, Ga caught my eye as well. One of my homegirls from South Fl attended Mercer Univ and dated a boy there from Montezuma.

But then at the very end of the story, the excerpt I reposted appeared^^^. And that disturbed me a tad. Does anyone know why this boy took shots at Tuskegee and Valley?

As the guy who sat across from him — it was an honest answer. He said, no knock, FVSU was too close to home and Skegee wasn’t a good fit. I don’t see the issue.

A company claiming it has rights to broadcast athletic contests within the SWAC has threatened to sue the league, claiming it interfered with a potential big-time sponsor.

*bookmarks thread*

Howard has never publicly denied having discussions with other conferences or made a proclamation like the Morgan State president gave me a month ago. Yes, there are two years before Dr. Fredrick leaves, and we all know how much things can change within that time frame. We shall see.

Sports Forum / Re: Howard first HBCU to add woman to football staff
« on: April 10, 2022, 07:28:37 PM »
For clarity, Howard isn't the first HBCU to add a woman to its football staff. There are multiple HBCUs with women serving as the head Director of Football operations. But great for the young woman.

It sounds like new membership for the MEAC.  How many HBCUs DII schools have soccer???

This is great for VSU....but the MEAC doesn't have soccer, or Men's/Women's lacrosse. Guess they will have to do like Howard and a couple others and have those teams play in other leagues for the sports the MEAC doesn't sponsor.

Good to see VSU investing in it's programs.

What makes yall think VSU is adding these sports programs for a possible move to the MEAC, especially when you consider that the MEAC as a whole does not offer soccer or men's women's lacrosse? They might have some other conference in their crosshairs,,,,,,,,
Why do you think they would go to Division one Conference that they have no history or relationship with as a start up fcs?

You never know...D1 conferences are positioning themselves for strength, stability, and cost reduction. The same things that make VSU a prize for the MEAC would also make VSU a good add for any conference with a mid eastern footprint. I see them joining the MEAC with their arch rival NSU...but would the admins be open to an offer from a conference like the CAA in their southern division...  ...  then VSU would get a baked in long time rival in a conference game with Hampton, an old CIAA foe in a conference game with NCA&T ...and big instate games against conference foes William & Mary and Richmond.

Then add to that, they can still play their arch rival NSU and any other HBCUs that want to play (NCCU, Howard, Morgan, SCSU) as OOC games.

Plus a conference like the CAA offer all their current sports and the new ones they just added. IJS, VSU is probably weighing all options as they consider this big move.
Dude the  CAA isn't taking in any D2 start up. Hell the only reason they took you guys after years of being ignored is because of the situation force them too. If they were to take one, you can bet your house it won't be an hbcu with only a $56mil endowment

I doubt the CAA would take to either, but I was making the point that there are other options out there...scenarios that the admins at VSU might be weighing. We don't know who they talking to...what their end game is, or what they hope to achieve.

To say their only option to move up is the MEAC might be short sighted. VSU could have moved up years ago...and joined the MEAC when Hampton...Norfolk...NCCU...or WSSU left the CIAA, but they didn't. VSU is building up, building out, and is in no rush. It will be very interesting to see what they do in the end.

Adding sports they didn't have to add...particularly women's sport's needed to offset in scholarship increases for football is all to telling.

Dude, they are already in their end game. They are where they want to be. Just because ya'll want white masters doesn't mean everyone does. VSU probably added those sports for Title 9 reasons, or they simply was ask to appease their white students. After all, VSU is State supported. They can't fully fund the football team, so why add sports unless they were forced to. It's not like they are a national power. Who adds a room when they can't furnished what they have?

1) I know plenty fellow WSSU alumni who have children who are playing soccer. Several of whom took note of VSU’s new addition.

2) They likely won’t be giving full scholarships so the student-athletes will have to pay some level of tuition, which is good for the bottom line. Astute move by VSU, I wish their southern neighbors would take note.

Sports Forum / Re: A&T athletics leadership is incompetent as hell.
« on: March 27, 2022, 12:23:38 AM »
I don't mean to offend anyone but I was going over all the years TnSU wasted in the OVC and how now their AD has them all goose up about moving up to fbs. Then it occurred to me that A&T leadership is almost just as incompetent, because of how they wasted over $2mil of A&T money in less than a year whore hopping from one pwi to another. Because they believe it's their only way to move up to the FBS level. Where they will be playing for nothing (as the pro playoffs folks love to say) but a lower tier Bowl game. That in all likelihood won't pay out as much as the Celebration Bowl. Now, how freaking stupid is that? Talk about a "bunch" of incompetent eggheads at the helm. Smh....

They can't come close to comprehending what you just said. Their white master won't let them.

When did Harold Martin become white?

Interesting that the Charlotte paper used a photo from a 4PM women's game on Wednesday in Baltimore  :lmao:

My Uber Drivers said they definitely were busier than usual. I appreciated the change up. It was nice to be in an authentically black city instead of one that is "blackish"
