NORFOLK, Va. (AP/WNCN) — North Carolina Central got no style points in winning its third consecutive Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference championship. Coach LeVelle Moton figured in advance that that might be the case: In a regular season meeting, Norfolk State beat the Eagles in overtime.

"Typical championship game," Moton said after his team's 50-47 victory against top-seeded Norfolk State on Saturday. "We knew we were going to be in for a dogfight. ... This is what we do it for, man."

For NCCU, it's the first time in school history the Eagles have secured three straight NCAA Tournament bids. The Eagles also became the first MEAC team to win three straight tournament titles since North Carolina A&T won seven straight from 1982-88.

UP NEXT

N.C. Central: will await its NCAA Tournament destination.

Norfolk State: will play in the NIT as league regular-season champions.

I like the schedule - it's very balanced.  And some very winnable games with the Out Of Conference match ups.

Calm down dogs - this is just one season. We all have our days...just wait and see. I recall you all having some very sad days and terrible losing seasons in football and basketball.

Go Eagle Nation...

a&t will not beat NCCU in Durham! Don't even put Coppin in the mix. We blew out FAMU (by 20 or 30 points) and you all beat them by 3 or 4 points. You beat Coppin by 9 points or so and we loss to them by 4 points. Go Eagle Nation!!!
Neither Central nor A&T has played FAMU yet.....but feel free to use whatever inaccurate information you need to draw from to make you feel better about yourself this weekend.    :snicker

You knew I meant MSU and not FAMU...
