This guy was St. Aug. Its not like they had anything better. Maybe it was his age.

I certainly hope not. That would be an easy ageism lawsuit.

Either way, I fully expect there to be litigation in the very near future. This could get ugly.

There’s gotta be more to this story...

From my days living in nearby Kansas City, it doesn’t surprise me that something like this happened at K State. That school has always been ultra conservative with the occasional racist incident being a fairly regular occurrence. Had this happened at KU, this student would already have been expelled.

Why is it such a desire to move into a house you can't afford? Everybody that lives in that neighborhood knows you don't belong and is laughing at you the whole time. We need to be more focused on educating our people, than spending money we don't have running behind a ball. When we are really ready and have the ability to compete, then we should make the move. WSSU can't afford it and neither can any other HBCU. HBCU's the only ones who ain't laughing.

I don’t get it either. I don’t see the glamor in jumping up to DII just to barely get by financially and get destroyed by everyone you play. So many people think it’s as easy snapping your fingers and then Presto! You’re a successful DI program.

Athletic departments are making cuts right now. Literally slashing whatever they can to save money because COVID-19 will surely result in less of it being available. So what AD in their right mind would say “You know what? This is the perfect time to elevate our program to Division I!”

I think sometimes some of us get so lost in fantasies and what ifs that we forget how hard actually is.

It appears Del state is next to jump ship to the NEC

https://www.hbcusports.com/2020/06/25/delaware-state-nec-wont-confirm-or-deny-rumors-of-future-membership-affiliation/

“Delaware State University is a proud charter member of the MEAC, said Delaware State President Dr. Tony Allen to HBCU Sports via email when asked if there was any truth to the rumors. “Our University community is involved at every level, including our Athletic Director, who holds leadership roles within the MEAC and our Faculty Athletics Representative, Dr. Charlie Wilson, who will serve as the MEAC President for the next two years. Our goal is to strengthen a rich and honored legacy for new and emerging realities.”

DSU staying put!

That’s not what I read. Sounds to me like they’re keeping their options open.

I tend to think Albany State has the best chance to "eventually" move up to DI if I had to pick a school but even that seems highly unlikely.

I don't see ASU moving up unless they can take FV with them.

In the very near future, there won't even be an HBCU DI conference that serves that part of the country.

As BrotherWiregrass stated, if ASU isn't going to properly fund their athletic department then jumping to DI will just be a waste of time and money.

At the end of the day, we may never see another HBCU make the transition to DI. The fees are way higher now than they were just a decade ago and we've seen from other schools that it's not necessarily as lucrative as it appears at first glance.

I really didn't know a lot about Claflin until they joined the CIAA. That shows my ignorance in that matter. I am impressed with what I have seen with their basketball program. It appears they were once a football school as well. The CIAA picked up a great find in adding them.

Thanks for the kind words. We're really excited to be in the CIAA. Coach Jackson has our men playing with a level of confidence I haven't seen from our team in over a decade.

I wish I could say I knew what went wrong for our women last season. The year before was Coach Whit's second season with us and her girls had some really impressive wins so I'm confident in her coaching abilities as well.

Should be a fun year of basketball if it doesn't get canceled.

Every year in the CIAA there are at least five teams that can win it all. You guys will now make that about six teams that could win it. We split with ya'll last year. We won the conference, so that means ya'll are right there. Which team that get hot for three days will win it this year. However, that virus is probably going to cause us to cancel the season.

Well if we get to play the season, you can probably expect a slow start from us. We’ll have an almost entirely new roster next year with only one role player from last year returning. Normally I would be uncomfortable by this fact but I trust Coach Jackson. We’ll probably take a few licks here and there regular season, but he’ll have his boys ready for the tournament.

Interesting. It’s good to know that the orange and maroon once fielded a halfway decent football team.

But unless someone is ready to write a big check, don’t look for us to field another one anytime soon.

No HBCU is moving up anytime soon. Way too expensive and post COVID 19 future is too cloudy.

The MEAC should add Georgetown as an Associate Member in football.

Something is telling me Georgetown isn’t showing any interest in joining the MEAC. Call it a hunch.

13
Really????  This sh!t is just a PR stunt IMHO.

Yep. That ship sailed years ago.

he would make more of an impact in the league office.

He could make an even bigger splash by registering to vote.

Agreed!

Kaepernick has been made into a martyr. They’re not going to let him back in. Ever. At this point we might as well move on. You can’t expect to publicly challenge the NFL to the extent he did and expect them to magically let him be in the league’s good graces again. The league wouldn’t want anyone else to think they could do the same thing and get away with it.

Plus, he’s been out of the league for how many years now? Why do people still think any team is going to risk alienating half of their fan base on a guy that hasn’t even played in the league for years?

Especially with the uncertainty of post Covid 19, Kaepernick is done. Strictly from a business perspective: he’s not worth the risk. I’m not saying I love how the whole situation went down but I knew what it was from the moment the Niners benched him.
