A Shelby County man is behind bars, accused of trying to kill a police officer with his own weapon.

Allen Dwight Horton, 23, is charged with attempted capital murder, attempted murder of a police officer and second-degree assault.

The incident happened Saturday, May 8, in Columbiana, according to court records made public Wednesday. The officer had been called to a report of a person acting erratically, said Columbiana Police Chief Jeff Bowers. Horton, police said, was not committing any crime so the officer was giving him a ride to his grandmother’s house.

Charging documents against Horton said the man was in the back of a Columbiana Police Department cruiser when the officer noticed the back door was not closed properly.

The officer pulled over to properly close the door, and that’s when Horton allegedly reached though the open plexiglass window that serves as a barrier between the cruiser’s front and back seats and grabbed the officer’s back-up weapon.

When the officer opened the opened the back door, records state, Horton pointed the Glock handgun at the officer and pulled the trigger. The gun jammed.

Because Horton was not under arrest, he was not handcuffed and the shield was open.

Horton is also charged with second-degree assault after he reportedly punched a paramedic in the face, knocking the paramedic to the ground.

Horton was arrested Tuesday and remained held Wednesday in the Shelby County Jail on bonds totaling $135,000.

Bowers said he’s grateful to God that the situation ended without the officer or Horton injured. “We are extremely thankful,’' the chief said. “As much as our officers train, nothing can train you for something like this. I think the officer handled it the best he could.”

Mason Walmart temporarily closes to 'thoroughly clean and sanitize' the building

MASON, Ohio —
The Mason, Ohio, Walmart Supercenter will close through Thursday morning for a deep clean amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Store officials announced that the store will shutter at 2 p.m. Tuesday and remain closed until 7 a.m. Thursday.

Company officials did not provide specific reasons for the temporary closure, but cited its COVID-19 response and protocols.

A statement from the company reads, "Everything we’re doing is for the well-being of our associates and customers, and in consideration of guidance by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and health experts. When the store reopens Thursday, we will continue conducting associate health screens and temperature checks, and all associates will be provided with face masks and gloves.

“These protocols are in addition to the extensive measures we’ve put in place during the pandemic to help protect our associates and customers, including installing sneeze guards at registers, temperature checks and mandatory mask-wearing for associates, placing social distancing signage and enacting emergency leave policy for associates who are unable or uncomfortable coming to work. Additionally, through the help of our health ambassadors, we will continue requiring customers to wear protective facial coverings while inside the building.

“We will continue working closely with elected and local health officials, adjusting how we serve the community while also keeping the health and safety of our customers and associates in mind.”

Watched it last night. It was good. Felt underwhelmed with the twisting, fragmented plot lines. Definitely felt it was released for the sequels to come.

Was quite surprised with the acting abilities of Jodie Turner-Smith. She was outstanding throughout the movie.

Now this would be an interesting perspective. Of the current covid case load, how many patients are vaccinated vs not vaccinated. Likewise, same statistical breakout for those on ventilators and in ICU....

Cell phone buzzed Saturday night and here’s the highlights of the call....

Dude and his wife are going to a White Party Memorial Day Weekend. He jumped on line looking for a white linen suit for the event. He came across all kind of bootleg offshore, nee Chinese, websites pretending to be domestic sites. So he drove over to K&G..... :lmao:

He rolled up on some old school Playa who was in there shopping. Old Playa done talked this fool into a white suit...not linen....when dude got done with him, he funked around and got a suit, a silk shirt and a straw brim....

His wife sees what he purchased and fell out laughing. She’s in the background in tears from laughing so hard. He spent a bit over $250 up in there....and when he sent me the pic of him in his outfit, I hollered too. This fool looks like a broke assed wanna be pimp....then he had the audacity to ask “what kinda shoes do you wear with this suit?”

 :lmao:

I had to compose myself to even tell him that whatever he wore, he better go back to K&G and get some white silk socks to coordinate.....

The minute I said that, his wife started shouting

 :lmao:

We laughed at that for at least 10-15 minutes....

I gotta go see this thing live and in living person now....

Not too hard to do, dude is from freaking West Virginia....when asked to cite one single shred of evidence that supports his positioning on a transgendered bill, he couldn’t.

'Come back when you can show me evidence': Stephanie Ruhle rips into W.V. governor over anti-trans law

Days after signing a bill that bans transgender athletes from competing in female sports, West Virginia Governor Jim Justice was unable to provide any specific examples of a transgender person gaining an unfair athletic advantage. NBC News' Stephanie Ruhle spared with the Republican governor over his state's priorities and why he chose to sign an anti-transgender bill over focusing on other issues.
