Here's a little more on Marino Casem:

Thank you, FunCkMaster and Jay_Thomas. Thanks to all who voted for my school. XULA lost to the Tufts men in the overall final, but this was an exciting run for the Gold Nuggets.

It's been quite a fantasy season for 11-1 record so far.

• 5-0 men's basketball -- beat 5 NCAA DI schools in the Black College Sports Network fantasy tournament. And look who showed up for the Gold Rush's victory against Prairie View A&M in the final:  ;D

• 4-1 women's tennis -- it's a thrill to beat Princeton, Pepperdine and North Carolina in anything  ;)

• 2-0 women's basketball -- advanced to the quarterfinals of its Black College Sports Network fantasy tournament. Current round ends at 2 p.m. CDT Easter Sunday.

What is your YouTube address?

Do you have copies of any of the Grambling football Sunday morning highlight shows -- I think they were one hour -- from the early 1970s? I watched that often.

Beat Princeton.
Beat Pepperdine.
Beat North Carolina.
Beat Hawaii Pacific.

That makes XULA the women's champion. Now the Gold Nuggets face men's champion Tufts for the overall title.

XULA vs. Tufts
polls close Friday, April 10 at 3:30 p.m. CDT

poll at the bottom of the tweet . . . select XULA

(don't love the post; that would give the vote to Tufts)

Thank you for your votes.

XULA advanced over Princeton with nearly 60 percent of the vote. Thank you to all on this board who voted. Next: Pepperdine middle of next week. I hope you'll vote for the Gold Nuggets again.

Visit ITA's Facebook page and "like" to support XULA women's tennis. (If you "love" the post, it's a Facebook vote for Princeton.)

Please vote on the ITA's Twitter page, too: "retweet" to support XULA. (If you "like" the post, it's a Twitter vote for Princeton.)

Voting ends at 11:59 a.m. CDT Friday (March 27).

Vote for XULA, the only #HBCU in this event: like on Facebook, retweet on Twitter. Thank you!

Have any HBCUs in NCAA Division II beaten a No. 1 team?

Talladega beat NAIA No. 1 Freed-Hardeman 77-68 Friday.

Has an HBCU women's basketball team ever defeated the No. 1 team in NCAA Division II?

Xavier University of Louisiana today became the first HBCU volleyball program to win a match at NAIA nationals since Saint Augustine's in 1981.

XULA 3, William Carey 0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-13).

Sports Forum / Xavier (New Orleans) beat UCLA in women's doubles
« on: November 12, 2019, 03:15:34 PM »
It happened last week in a consolation round of the ITA National Fall Championships at Newport Beach, Calif. The UCLA team was ranked 37th in NCAA Division I.

When the ITA NAIA preseason rankings are announced in a few weeks, expect Xavier's Angela Charles-Alfred and Lailaa Bashir to be No. 1. They've had a great fall season.

XULA teams were 4-0 Saturday, all on the road.

Volleyball (24-5) won twice in Hattiesburg, beating Bethel (Tenn.) and William Carey in three sets apiece. Gold Nuggets have won 5 straight and 16 of their last 17 matches.

Men's basketball (1-1) won 65-54 at Coastal Georgia.

Women's basketball (1-1) won 64-53 at Lawrence Tech.

Both basketball teams were preseason No. 2 picks in the GCAC.

UST Volleyball Classic in Houston
XULA 3, St. Thomas (Texas) 0 (25-21, 25-15, 25-19)
Gold Nuggets are 20-5 and reached 20 wins for the third consecutive season.

UST Volleyball Classic at Houston
Huston-Tillotson 3, XULA 2 (17-25, 26-24, 25-21, 22-25, 15-10)
HT is 16-4 and has won 10 straight. Rams snap 11-match win streak of XULA, which is 19-5.
XULA's Kayla Black tied her school record for kills in a match with 27.

Friday volleyball in Houston: XULA 3, Wiley 1 (25-15, 16-25, 25-16, 25-21)

Men's basketball: XULA was scheduled to play in a 3-day Los Angeles HBCU event, Hoopin' in Holidays Tournament, Dec. 27-29, 2006. I never was told what teams would be there, what the venue was or who was the sponsor. The tournament never happened.
