Sports Forum / Re: Florida A&M in the FCS playoffs was clear snub
« on: November 29, 2022, 11:21:51 AM »
Wile^^^I’ve got an even more SALIENT question. Of what interest is ANY of this to NCCU?

If NCCU were not in the Celebration Bowl, we would have received an invite to the playoffs as an at-large.  Yes we played a D2 school and a non-NCAA school.  But we also went 3-1 against OOC FCS schools to include a conference champion and a playoff contender.

As far as my credentials. . I vote in the AGS poll.  I follow FCS football all year and have been following for over a decade.

Here were my predictions for playoff selections:

Quote
My shot at it:

AQ-11: SDSU, Sacramento State, St Francis, Gardner-Webb, Holy Cross, Samford, EKU, Southeastern Louisiana, Davidson, Southeast Missouri St., William & Mary,

At-large: Montana State, North Dakota State, University of Incarnate Word, Weber State, Furman, New Hampshire, Richmond, Elon, UC-Davis, North Dakota, Tennessee-Martin, Fordham, Mercer

Last Four In: Mercer, North Dakota, Tennessee Martin, UC-Davis
First Four Out: Idaho, Delaware, Chattanooga, Montana
Next Four: Austin Peay, Florida A&M, Youngstown St, Rhode Island

UC-Davis @ North Dakota to #1 Sacramento State
Mercer @ Southeastern Louisiana to #8 Incarnate Word
Southeast Missouri @ UT-Martin to #4 North Dakota State
Davidson @ Elon to #5 Samford

Gardner Webb @ Furman to #2 South Dakota State
Saint Francis @ Richmond to #7 William and Mary
Eastern Kentucky @ Weber State to #3 Montana State
New Hampshire @Fordham to #6 Holy Cross

I correctly predicted 10 of the 13 at-larges, but in my next four out; you see the three at-larges that I missed.  My next four out has three of the four teams that the committee claimed were in their first four out.

Back to your original question; perhaps this doesn't concern NCCU.  But I'm speaking for myself and no one else.  Finally, the persecution complex is tiring. . . which is why I posted.  There is no grand conspiracy against FAMU.

I wish FAMU would have scheduled another FCS as opposed to D2 Albany State.
KnuckDogg......others agree with you, including, I'm sure, some Rattlers.  But I respectfully disagree about not scheduling Albany State.  Perhaps its nostalgia or something, but back in the 70's when I was an undergrad at FAMU, Albany State was routinely on the Rattlers schedule.  Drive time between Tallahassee and Albany, Ga, is only about a couple of hours or so, and the games, as I recall, were fairly competitive.

Look, in all candor, I'm not even sure if FAMU has stated a DEFINITIVE position about whether it wants to participate in the FCS playoffs.  I don't think this particular squad would have performed well, but I also think it is disingenuous to suggest that our scheduling a historic rival like Albany State cost us participation.  The Rattlers performance in the second game of the season was horrible and inexplicable, and if there is one contest that bumped us, THAT would be the culprit not 'bany State.

But FAMU is the ONLY FCS negro college that has participated in the playoffs before and actually WON games.  All of this bullschitt about being "contractually obligated" to play in conference and black college championship games is offered to provide a convenient excuse to avoid playing the top PWC's in the FCS division.

If you sced say you sced:shrug:

A&T has won playoff games.

So has FAMU.

Wile E, I don't know....................your losses were to losing teams, with SC State being unusually bad this season.  It kinda mitigates the New Hampshire win.

Great read Pickle.  Glad she chose WSSU but had she gone to Galludet she would have had the outside environment she sought.  As for athletics, it's interesting to watch their football games.  They use a bass drum to call the signals.  In baseball the plate ump has to pat the catcher on the corresponding shoulder to call strikes and balls, and give the count.  It was a good trip learning to officiate their games, along with their high school Model.

How bout that!  I know, I know. We just got spanked in the D2 playoffs but last year the athletic department won 5 conference championship and the AD was AD of the year!  Since 2017 we’ve garnered 13 championship in 25 appearances!  Good stuff going happening on Murchison road.

I guess you just want to feel better after that beat-down ya'll got this weekend.

Truth! :D  While I hate you Mules, I have to give you props for now.

Gotta go with "y" on the money thing.  Now that LC field...........:D   El did y'all have a 60s/70s moment?

He noted that he put it together.  As noted, I once put them together.  However I haven't for some time now.

S O you don't get it because you don't know the formula.  Again I published it some time ago. It can be found via the "search."  Your "should have" comments speak to my point that it is NOT an opinion poll.  I have said many times that I don't always agree with the results. Now if you are inferring that Benedict nor Union can't beat Jackson..........................

It works. You just don't get it. I have previously had many discussions with naysayers including Math Major Coach Pough. I have even published my formula for all to see. This is season 32.

They are not over Jackson State nor any D1 school. They play dissimilar schedules. They are over the other D2/NAIA schools.  If you want to look just at the numbers, check out their respective schedules.

One earlier questioned FAMU ranked lower than A&T, etc. As I explained then, that the teams they had beaten at the time had poor records, and that if they keep winning the ratings will reflect it. Now that I have almost a full body of work to analyze the ratings will be even more reflective in the final.

I had great joy in having the Mules ranked just ahead of Chowan, and they win in a thriller.  Just keep in mind its not an opinion poll.

How in the hell did Fayetteville State jumped ahead of us when they was never ranked? So, basically, you're conference champs get automatic bids now?? IS that the message??

that's all...   >:(

Short explanation: Strength of schedule came in to play. Chowan's SOS went way up when they beat Union. FSU beat Chowan which increase the Broncos' SOS. So the CIAA and the SIAC need to go to an 11-game schedule. Fort Valley got bypassed by Limestone, who played an extra game, Emory & Henry this weekend.

It might be time to let the Championship Games go OR, have a pre-arranged 11th game for teams that don't make the championship. I THINK the PSAC does or once did this.

Richmond huh?  Hmmmm.......................
