Would have loved to see Chester vs Kermit Blount.

He may not have been the best, but he had to be the most spectacular.

For some reason I enjoyed going to the Central vs Fairmont Heights games the most!

fairmont heights has a "brand new" high school now and the new gym is very nice.  i've refereed quite a few high school basketball games there...

We probably crossed paths a few times and didn't know it.  I did ref basketball one year there.  I quit because..................

its possible, but i do games across all of pg county which is a pretty big county i'm sure you know.  so i'm not at fairmont heights on a consistent basis, i might do 4 or 5 games there every season...

I wasn't referring to Fairmont Heights specifically.  As the Transportation guy, I knew all the ADs and several coaches. I reffed and umped all over the DMV including SOUTHERN Maryland.

He was a BAD man!

Never heard of him until State cheated to get him.  THEN I found out why.  Everyone in the Triad area just KNEW that Ray Harrison was the best in the class of 71.  Hell, he was an All-American in two sports.

Then East-West All-star camp comes to town. Brothers came back to our side saying if you think Raynard is bad, you need to come to the West practice. OMG as they would say now.

As fate would have it, they both turned the game out.  Aggies, one of your greats was an opponent.  SOME guy named Allen Spruill. ;)

This looks like it's based on their professional careers.  We all know folks who would be on there otherwise.

This ought to be good.  I retired from the school system, scheduled Athletics transportation, and umpired there for a LONG LONG time.  2 of those years I also worked for BSU Athletics, and was instrumental in moving one of the biggest basketball matchups from campus out to BSU; the 2003 Oxon Hill vs. Suitland rematch.

I won't touch the "snob" comments. :D

The expensive baseball travel team monopoly plays a part as well.
I think that the real problem is that black youth in the US have stopped playing baseball. They all want to be Lebron and they no longer remember Jackie.

This is a lot of it.

....and what message are we sending HS students who may WANT to attend an HBCU and play a particular sport?  I'm still salty about us dropping baseball......AGAIN!

The message is that FSU has other interests or can't afford to have a tennis program. Would you rather they keep the tennis program and take the money from other sports or campus programs that benefit students.

Other interests? Obvious?  Can't afford?  Maybe.  Since it is a non-revenue sport, but has relatively broad interest, is it the one to cut?

[It's the same for wssu and baseball...if you want to keep the program, then where would you rather take the hit?

You could have come to Greensboro and took an a-- kicking to get the money you needed for baseball. Lots of schools play money games, no shame in that.

No it's not the same.  Baseball costs way more than tennis.  Secondly the baseball budget could have taken the hit had things been thought out.  We can't come to Greensboro to be kicked if y'all still scared!

And THIS as much as the day parties is why tournament attendance is low.
