Politics / Is tranq the death of white drug users

‘Everybody’s dropping like flies’: Federal ‘tranq’ warning follows escalating concerns in Mass

The new warning from the DEA over “the deadliest drug threat our country has ever faced” follows escalating concerns in Massachusetts about the dangerous animal tranquilizer.

Boston 25 News first told you about xylazine, also known as “tranq” and “the zombie drug”, back in September.

The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration issued an alert Monday warning of a “sharp increase in the trafficking of fentanyl mixed with xylazine”.

The anesthetic that’s approved for veterinary use with large animals is not an opioid.

That means Narcan, a crucial tool in saving lives in the opioid epidemic, cannot reverse its effects.

The latest data from a state-funded collaborative tracking program in Massachusetts shows that about a third of New England’s illegal drug supply is laced with xylazine.

“Everybody’s dropping like flies,” said Will Reavis, of Boston. “I know quite a few people that most likely passed away because of this new stuff. It’s just going to get worse. More people are going to die.”

Boston 25 News spoke with several people who believe recent overdoses involving people they know are linked to the animal tranquilizer.

“I have a few friends that are now six feet under because of the issue,” said one woman. “It’s scary to think about it. I’m about to cry… a horse tranquilizer should not be on the streets. It’s like rat poisoning.”

Public health experts believe people are taking xylazine both unknowingly and intentionally.

Ron DeSantis' donors and allies question if he's ready for 2024

https://www.yahoo.com/news/ron-desantis-donors-allies-hes-022355757.html

WASHINGTON — Ron DeSantis may be missing his moment.

A number of the Florida governor’s donors and allies are worried his recent stumbles suggest he may not be ready for a brutal fight against Donald Trump. Some feel DeSantis needs to accelerate his timeline to run for the GOP presidential nomination and begin directly confronting Trump if he's to have any chance of thwarting the former president’s momentum. Others believe DeSantis should sidestep Trump altogether and wait until 2028 to run.

At a Sunday luncheon following the annual Red Cross ball in Palm Beach, Florida, a group of 16 prominent Republicans, described by one attendee as a mix of DeSantis backers and Trump "skeptics," discussed misgivings about the governor's standing for the future if he tussles with the former president.

“They liked him — many of them might even support him,” the person who was at the event said of DeSantis. “But they thought on balance that his long-term future was better without him trying to take Trump head on.”

“He will get scarred up” by Trump, the person added.

Then there’s conservative billionaire shipping goods magnate Richard Uihlein and his wife, Elizabeth, whose $500,000 in combined contributions ranked them among the most generous donors to DeSantis’ 2022 re-election campaign.

A person familiar with the strategy around Uihlein’s spending said that right now, “The brakes are pumped,” adding, “The polling really made different people pause.”

A spokesperson for the Uihleins declined to comment.

Trump's fans sent him $1.5 million in 3 days after he falsely predicted that he'd be arrested Tuesday

https://www.yahoo.com/news/donald-trumps-fans-sent-him-041538634.html

Donald Trump wasn't arrested Tuesday, but he got a big fundraising boost after claiming he would be.

He raised $1.5 million in the three days after saying he'd be arrested, per multiple reports.

That's nearly double the daily average he got in the weeks before and after launching his 2024 bid.

Former President Donald Trump raised $1.5 million in the three days after he claimed on Truth Social that he'd be arrested Tuesday, per multiple media outlets.

Trump's 2024 campaign confirmed the sum to Fox News, the outlet reported Wednesday. The money was said to be raised from grassroots donations.

The Washington Post, citing an anonymous source familiar with the matter, reported the same amount raised in that time frame.

The resulting average of $500,000 a day is almost double the daily average from the weeks before and after he announced his bid for the White House in November.

The Trump campaign brought in $11.8 million in the six weeks before the announcement, averaging out at $280,000 a day. And in the six weeks after Trump announced his run, his campaign raised $9.5 million, or $226,000 a day.

Politics / The playbook for running against ron desatan

Poll: Signature DeSantis policies unpopular with Americans ahead of likely presidential run

If Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis defeats former President Donald Trump for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, he may have a harder time winning the general election than his supporters expect, according to the latest Yahoo News/YouGov poll.

The new survey shows that more Americans oppose than favor seven out of eight signature policies put forward by DeSantis in Florida, with support ranging from 36% (for requiring public school books to be reviewed for content “the government deems inappropriate”) to a low of 21% (for “granting political appointees the power to fire tenured faculty members at public colleges and universities at any time and for any reason”).

On foreign policy, meanwhile, DeSantis doesn’t fare much better.

“While the U.S. has many vital national interests,” the Florida governor said in a statement last week, “becoming further entangled in a territorial dispute between Ukraine and Russia is not one of them.” Yet by a nearly 2-1 margin, Americans consider the conflict an “invasion of Ukraine by Russia” (56%) rather than a “territorial dispute” (30%) — and less than a third (32%) think “the conflict is none of America’s business.”

Unearthed footage from 2018 shows Trump's current lawyer saying the Stormy Daniels hush-money payment could be a 'real problem' for Trump

https://www.yahoo.com/news/unearthed-footage-2018-shows-trumps-011630877.html    :snicker :snicker :snicker

CNN unearthed video footage showing Trump's current lawyer saying in 2018 that the Stormy Daniels hush-money payment could be a "real problem" for Trump.

The lawyer, Joe Tacopina, also said the payment could have violated federal election laws.

He's struck a markedly different tone since becoming Trump's lawyer, saying Trump is the victim of an extortion plot.

A defense attorney representing Donald Trump in the Manhattan district attorney's probe into a hush-money payment made to Stormy Daniels said several years ago that the payment could pose a "real problem" for Trump.

The lawyer, Joe Tacopina, made multiple appearances on CNN in 2018, when the $130,000 payment first came to light as part of a federal criminal investigation — separate from the DA's current probe — into Michael Cohen, who was then Trump's longtime fixer.

"If it leads back to the Trump campaign funding, that's a big problem," Tacopina told CNN in a March 2018 interview. "This is a Pandora's box that's gonna be opened and unfortunately is not going to have any good results for the president."
