Trump criticizes Birx for the first time after she issues coronavirus warnings

https://www.cnn.com/2020/08/03/politics/trump-birx-coronavirus-task-force/index.html

President Donald Trump criticized Dr. Deborah Birx in a Monday tweet after she warned the pandemic is "extraordinarily widespread" in the US.
While Trump and other top White House officials have publicly attacked Dr. Anthony Fauci, the tweet marked the first time Birx, the coordinator of the White House coronavirus task force, publicly drew Trump's ire.

The dust-up comes as the country continues to be ravaged by coronavirus, with more than 150,000 US citizens dead and more than 4 million cases. Trump has consistently lied and misled mostly in attempts to downplay concerns about the virus as he presses for schools and businesses to reopen.

"So Crazy Nancy Pelosi said horrible things about Dr. Deborah Birx, going after her because she was too positive on the very good job we are doing on combatting the China Virus, including Vaccines & Therapeutics. In order to counter Nancy, Deborah took the bait & hit us. Pathetic!" Trump wrote.

Thom Tillis Wanted to Kill Obamacare. Now He's Plagiarizing It

https://www.yahoo.com/news/thom-tillis-wanted-kill-obamacare-090911244.html

Like many Republicans in office today, Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC) came to power in the Barack Obama era by running against the president’s signature health-care law.

Today, those Republicans are confronting a difficult political environment in which their dogged efforts to kill the Affordable Care Act may have, in fact, made it more popular. And many are trying to whitewash their prior opposition.

Tillis is taking it a bit farther. The North Carolina Republican, who is facing a competitive re-election this fall, is now bragging that a health-care bill he wrote “literally” cribs language from Obamacare.

In a July 27 appearance on an Asheville, North Carolina, TV station, Tillis was asked about what plan Republicans have in place in the event that the Supreme Court strikes down Obamacare in a looming legal challenge. Tillis referenced the bill he co-wrote, called the PROTECT Act, which purports to safeguard the most popular elements of the law—chief among them its guarantee of health coverage for people with pre-existing conditions.

‘The Swamp’ Exposes Just How Much Republican Matt Gaetz Kisses Trump’s Butt

https://www.yahoo.com/news/swamp-exposes-just-much-republican-073952032.html

It’s Gaetz who’ll likely be best known to viewers, thanks to a series of headline-making (and social media-inflaming) stunts, including tweeting out a not-so-veiled threat to congressional witness (and former Trump attorney) Michael Cohen, and leading a group of rabble-rousing Republicans on a raid of a closed-door impeachment hearing deposition. A perpetual fixture on Fox News, where he parrots Trump talking points in the most extremist fashion imaginable, he’s a young, eager go-getter who’s hitched his post to the current commander-in-chief. That’s certainly the figure depicted by DiMauro and Pehme’s film, which captures him articulating his staunch support in personal phone calls to the president (and is told, in return, “You’re doing fantastic…you’re tough and smart and you have the look”), as well as stating outright “I love him so much.” Throughout the film, Gaetz is repeatedly seen fawning all over Trump, receiving marching orders from the president and delivering near-daily progress reports. When Trump calls him “handsome,” the congressman acts like he’s won the lottery.

Politics / Re: Postponing the November Elections
« on: August 02, 2020, 10:01:50 AM »
Correct: Hitler was appointed Chancellor. That is what they do in a parliamentary democracy. They form a government. Usually the party leader of the majority party becomes prime minister as in the United Kingdom. If there is not a majority, they form a coalition government. There is not direct election by the people. By the end of World War II, the German people were just trying to survive. I remember reading somewhere that 90 per cent of German civilian deaths occurred after the Allied invasion of Europe in June 1944.

However, there were massed rallies as late as 1943. There is no doubt that the German people were enthusiastic supporters of Hitler initially and well into the war. The similarities with the US today and the talk of delaying the election I find to be disturbing. I hate to say it, but the coronovirus may be our savior.
