Sports Forum / Re: VSU Names Henry Frazier Head Football Coach
« on: May 12, 2022, 10:41:02 PM »
Just saw the press conference.  Coach graciously said the VSU cupboard was not bare of talent.   Very classy remark to predecessor, Barlow.   If he is able to get athletes to buy into summer conditioning and being in tip top shape come  August  concentrating on reps and schemes,  I smell a team heading for championships.  There is a proven correlation in summer conditioning and wins.  What I mostly remember about this guy is his work ethics and his players loved and respected him.  He is a very good person and coach.  This guy  can RECRUIT and does well in DELMARVA, DC area.  Hope those guys listen and come into camp in shape.  :tiptoe:  :tiptoe:

2 points?.  I guess we have a different size basket at our level.   Pitt, put up a garage sale.  When you are a weak recruiter you get what others throw away.  Sorry, but  will be like most of these D1 transfers.  Lucky to make all conference in the end.  The calibre remains the same. Hasn't been a panacea in program growth.

HENRY FRAZIER. Give him you best support and step back.   He turned NCCU around after Rison departure, with positive mindset and belief that it was the best institution for the best athletes..  They came and stayed four years.  Good students, good recruits and left his successor with championship teams and upon Fraziers recruits graduating from the nest  his successor skeedaddled too.

NCCU is behind athletics.  NCCU needed NEW directions.  The Chancellors selection was excellent and his Press Conference expressions were on point.  This selection was professional  in  process devoid of gossip and elimination of a bad candidates who thought himself a one greased to slide through.    NOT!  This Chancellor has a pair.                          ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Hated seeing good coaches leave but in all cases it was to higher levels and salaries.  Super elated with replacements.   All accomplished in their particular coaching positions through multiple experiences, multiple winning places coupled with proven abilities in recruiting.  Got another Broadway acolyte to return home.  Coard was a great student athlete and more particularly a person.  He had great parental upbringing and shocked when told he was returning back home.  Coach Oliver, excellent Head Coach in recovering staff loses.  I'm sure recently departed coaches will continue improving teams and institutions at new locations.  Go Eagles.

Where is the Earl Banks Morgan State pride?  President Jenkins and that crew had it going on.  A powerful, well coached team that would beat the shocks off if  you were not prepared.

If this rumor is true, good luck coming home.  He has my support.  I liked all the selectees and thought the Chancellor did a great job in eliminations to the final three.    He will need to get some persons near and around the Athletic Dept who are just cashing checks to get off their duffs or leave in that many alumni have been alienated from the lack of communication and baldfaced lies.  Hopes he brings energy and expectations while ridding the Dept of gossip mongrels.   Lets get professional again.

Good selection.  Impressed with his work approach to team as a teacher.   Good guy

Sports Forum / Re: Duke coach K and racism
« on: March 14, 2022, 08:17:41 AM »
AD's make and approve selections for coaches at Duke.  I have not heard nor witnessed a President, Provost etc hiring coaches at that institution.   What the poster stated is BS to shovel crap covering figments of posters imagination and prejudice toward Duke relative to their stellar record in MBB .   Tom Butters was the AD, not the President on the selection of winningest coach in NCAAMB history.  Duke Presidents don't do coaches.  Lets see how Scheyer get on.  He was the choice of the AD and K
.  Tommy Amaker is fine where he is, I'm told by those CLOSELY ASSOCIATED WITH BASKETBALL AT DUKE  not some pip-squeak  shoveling feces on this board without substance nor proof.
Every super star coach in this area was disliked in the beginning by some.  Dean Smith upon being relegated to the head position upon Frank Macquire departure for South Carolina.  Jim Valvano from little Iona taking over at NCSU from Norm Sloan who went to Florida was questioned.   In that spirit here's hoping Scheyer too will fulfill that perch.

Sports Forum / Re: Coach Gibbs to Fort Valley State?

Understand that happens not only at FVSU but happens to us all.  Piss poor selection committees, transparency, supposed big dog on BOT and after al committees hard work, those chosen were preprogrammed to fit selection criteria .   Now if that is the case of Gibbs.  They got it right.  You won't outwork him nor be as passionate, which is a step up relative to the South Georgia fever, FOOTBALL.  There is no fight as to what is bigger than that sport in your area.  Here in the mid states we have Basketball heads and Football fanatics.   We all know in the south the latter is the winner but in Georgia its football.   You will see.  Cool down,  he didn't invent the process but walked into a quagmire not of his invention.   You will like him because his is a winner.

Rod Broadway wasn't a DC prior to taking his first HC job at NCCU. Neither was Bill Hayes at WSSU.  Some guys make more as a position coach at some places than a DC at another.  Seems there are those passionate about their Football, but naive in thinking they chose athletics positions.  Get over it.  It a President call.  Trust me.  Its not a FVSU thing, its at all institutions.  You pray the selection is good.  In this case, I think your gift is a good one.  Those who (YOGI) are sparring in an empty ring with themselves sticking nothing - step out and support your passion,FVSU and give this process a chance to blossom.  With your support, this could be a pleasant surprise.  Search committees are a joke placating stakeholders into thinking they have a voice in the process.   NOT!.  Great schools won't let you  select who's President, Chancellor or Deans.  Calm down and IF you truly care about FVSU stop shadow boxing.  Waste of time.   :tiptoe:

I feel you got a good one.   He can recruit and he too is passionate about Football. Biggest adjustment will be those ubiquitous gnats swams in South Georgia.  There is much untapped talent in Georgia.   Gibbs will find it.

Both were on the staff at NCCU.  Both were liked by the fans, and both very good coaches.  Glad for one and sad for the other.  Defensively both helped NCCU

Here we go.....
Please no Mayo.

Yeah, he has history that is the pits.  Surely we can do better.  We need a seasoned professional who knows the responsibilities that position has for future athletics at the institution.  We need no MAYO.

Come on.  Who will take that position at such late date in recruiting which reflect what's to be expected from heads in athletics .   Signing day in 30 days which will put him a year behind others working all year on new talent.  It is sad to say the least.
