Sports Forum / Aggies Bid Farewell With MEAC Title Curtain Calls

EIGHT IS ENOUGH
A&T's men matched its four straight MEAC indoor titles with its fourth straight MEAC outdoor title. The Aggies will leave for the Big South next season.

EAST GREENSBORO - The North Carolina A&T men's outdoor track and field team won its fourth straight Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) championship on at Truist Stadium on N.C. A&T's Irwin Belk Track on Saturday.

Senior superstars such as Trevor Stewart, Aaron Wilkerson and Mar'Quise McGee do not know what it is like not to win a conference championship. It looks as if they are ready to pass on that winning tradition to the Aggies youth movement.

In competing in their final MEAC outdoor championship before joining the Big South Conference in July, the Aggie men used freshmen Randolph Ross, Jr. and Javonte Harding to score a conference-record 288 points. The men won the school's seventh outdoor championship.

THREE OUT OF FOUR AIN'T BAD!
The Aggie women showed complete dominance in winning their third outdoor title in four years.

EAST GREENSBORO – The North Carolina A&T women's outdoor track and field team won the 2021 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) outdoor track and field championship on Saturday at Truist Stadium on N.C. A&T's Irwin Belk Track.

The Aggies scored a conference-record 290 points to cruise to their third MEAC outdoor championship in four years. But that was expected.

In winning another MEAC outdoor title, the Aggies won sprinting events in the 100, 200 and 400 meters and the 4x100-meter relay. That was expected too. The Aggies are a program known nationwide for their world-class sprinters.

Senior Loren James earned the MEAC's most outstanding field performer. She is a thrower. Senior G'Jasmyne Butler earned most outstanding track performer. Butler is not a sprinter. She is a distance runner.

In past years, both of those occurrences would be unexpected. But as the Aggies continue to build toward having enough talent to win a national championship, their continued dominance at the conference level is starting to come with a sense of wholeness that could carry to their goal.

"We have come a long way," said James, who won the shot put on Saturday at 50-feet, 11 ½-inches. Earlier at the championships, James also finished second in the hammer throw and the discus.

"In the past, sprinters would sweep every event, and we would win some field events," James continued. "I think the difference is we're doing it post-conference now. We're doing it on a regional level, and hopefully, we can begin to do it on a national level. G'Jasmyne winning outstanding track runner speaks volumes. It says we are a complete unit."

EAST GREENSBORO –
College Football America Yearbook released their 2019 Preseason FCS Top 30 on Monday with the North Carolina A&T Aggies ranked No. 18.

Aggies Announce 2019-20 Recruiting Class
NCATAGGIES.COM THU, JUN 27

EAST GREENSBORO –
North Carolina A&T men’s basketball has completed its recruiting class for the 2019-20 season as they try to follow up on their second-place showing in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) from the 2018-19 season.

N.C. A&T head coach Jay Joyner announced the addition of six new players to wear the Blue & Gold next season.

Brandon Barron (5-foot-10, 145, PG, Atlanta, Alpharetta), Fred Cleveland (5-10, 155, G, Chicago, Ill., Lea Catholic), Tyler Maye (6-2, 170, G, Farmville, N.C., Farmville Central, Southeastern Community College, VCU), Harry Morrice (6-11, 240, C, Scotland, United Kingdom, Beckley Prep), Kwe Parker (6-0, 190, G, 6-0, 181, Fayetteville, N.C., Wesleyan Christian Academy, University of Tennessee) and Shayne Scruggs (6-7, 230, Lansing, Mich., Liberty Heights Athletic Institute) are the newest additions to the Aggies family.

“I am always a believer of judging how effective a class is once they start competing,” said Joyner. “I will say we did a good job of filling all of our needs. We should have the perimeter shooting we need to be effective and at the same time, we look forward to having the muscle we need to score inside. If these young men come in and embrace our defensive philosophy, we can be successful.”

I found some minutes from the last Board of Trustees Facilities Committee report that mentioned waiting for a Brownfield study before they could move forward.

It's #03 on the list of documents.

https://bot.ncat.edu/_layouts/15/mobile/viewa.aspx?List=891e156e-1162-4022-b1c9-e46a5461428a&View=4bdd1807-6091-4e41-86e3-07029922286c&RootFolder=%2FShared%20Documents1%2F54%20-%20BOT%20April%202019%20Meeting%20Committee%20and%20Full%20Board%20Meeting%20Materials%2F04%20-%20Business%20Affairs%20Committee%20%28BAC%29

"reportedly", war memorial stadium was recently cleared by the environmentalists so the final official transfer of the stadium from the city of greensboro over to a&t should take place within the next month or two i'm told.  the scoreboard, restrooms, and locker rooms have already been nicely renovated but significantly more renovations are planned to come soon...
Is there a plan to use the stadium for other event so it can bring in some revenue?

Once all the renovations are completed(tentatively by the end of this year), A&T will be leasing it's new facility out for various athletic events, outdoor concerts, festivals, and etc. during the summer months following baseball season.
Great hope it works out, I'd hate for this to become a "money pit" and a drain on the institution.

the renovations are expensive.  but once the renovations are complete, "maintaining" the stadium in good condition will not be very expensive.  so i don't see it becoming a "drain" on our finances...

No concern on this purchase. The one of the things for A&T's rise over the last 8 years has been THE CONSTANT during the Martin administration - fiscal responsibility first.

Picking the next AD can have either a lasting Lazarus effect on the athletic profile or a become a complete cluster that could set things back for decades. Rams, take your time and get it right.

White Named NCAA Division I Indoor Track Athlete of the Year

NCATAGGIES.COM
Tue, Mar 12

EAST GREENSBORO –
Senior North Carolina A&T track and field star Kayla White has been named the NCAA Division I Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Year as announced by the United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association on Tuesday.

It sounds like an individual honor in a sport that majors in highlighting individual honors. Even to Kayla White a few years would have thought it an individual honor, but she has changed.

“Once she got to the point where she was winning a lot, we had to teach her the importance of leading others,” said Duane Ross, the Aggies director of track and field programs and the 2019 USTFCCCA Southeast Region women’s track and field coach of the year.

“It was hard for her to understand at first – the need to be a leader on a track and field team. But we told her it’s important you serve your team. You get them to be their best while staying at your best. I’ve got to say she started to get it and she has done a wonderful job being our leader.”

White, who also earned Southeast Region women’s track Athlete of the year by the USTFCCCA two weeks, uses three simple words, to sum up, Ross’s words.

Leaving a legacy.

LADY AGGIES CHARM WITH THIRD STRAIGHT T&F TITLE
NCATAGGIES.COM Sat, Feb 23

LANDOVER, Md. (February 23, 2019) – The North Carolina A&T track and field teams are starting to become historic and the student-athletes who comprise those teams are becoming legendary.

For third straight Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Indoor Track and Field Championship, the N.C. A&T Aggies swept both championships to become the first university in MEAC history to sweep the men’s and the women’s indoor championships three years in a row.

The women posted 174 points to beat Florida A&M (118.50), Bethune-Cookman (98), Norfolk State (78) and Morgan State (48.50) in the top-5 at the Prince George’s County Sports & Learning Complex. Whenever historic and N.C. A&T Athletics are mentioned, senior Kayla White is starting to become a part of the conversation.

White, the world leader in the 200 meters, was named the meet’s Most Outstanding Runner after winning the 200m and 60-meter hurdles on Saturday. She finished second in the 60m to score 28 points for the Aggies throughout the meet. Duane Ross, the Aggies director of track and field programs, was named Outstanding Coach.

White continues to add to her impressive credentials as a student-athlete at N.C. A&T. White has won six gold medals at the MEAC indoor championships. She has won the 60mh all four years of her career and she was a 60m and 200m title to her career totals. She will go into the MEAC outdoor championships with eight gold medals.

A&T MEN CONTINUE THEIR DOMINANCE OF MEAC TRACK
NCATAGGIES.COM SAT, FEB 23

LANDOVER, Md. (February 23, 2018) – The North Carolina A&T track and field teams are starting to become historic and the student-athletes who comprise those teams are becoming legendary.

For third straight Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Indoor Track and Field Championship, the N.C. A&T Aggies swept both championships to become the first university in MEAC history to sweep the men’s and the women’s indoor championships three years in a row. The men now have a chance to capture all three MEAC track titles after winning cross country in the fall. The Aggie men will go for the trifecta in May during the MEAC outdoor championships held at N.C. A&T's Irwin Belk Track.

The men posted 191 points to beat Bethune-Cookman (141), Norfolk State (119), Morgan State (41) and S.C. State (30) in the top-5. Freshman Regan Kimtai was named earned Outstanding Runner honors and N.C. A&T’s director of track and field programs Duane Ross was named Outstanding Coach.

What is notable about Kimtai winning outstanding runner is that for a program known as SprinterU, Kimtai is not a sprinter. Kimtai won the award by winning the 5000 meters on Thursday and the 1 mile and the 800 meters on Saturday to score 30 points for the Aggies.

“We’re a complete team now,” said Ross about the Aggie men. “We no longer have to wait on Saturday and the sprint finals before we start putting up multiple points. Our throwers can put up a lot of points and our distance runners performed really well. We are a lot stronger on the men’s side than we used to be.”

I wonder what type of agreement, if any, those off campus apartments have with the colleges? It is my understanding that they are not exclusively for students. Anybody can live there, if you care to be around a bunch of students.

Quote
What off-campus activities qualify to be reported?

Not all off-campus student activities and travel needs to be reported. To be Clery reportable, the activity must meet certain requirements.

First, the university must have control over the space used for the student activity and/or travel. Control, as defined by the Clery Act, means that there is a written agreement (no matter how informal) directly between the university and the end provider for use of the space. Some examples of a written agreement include reserving hotel rooms, leasing apartments, leasing space for athletic purposes, or an agreement for academic space. Even if the agreement is in e-mail form, and there is no charge associated with the agreement, the space may still qualify as Clery reportable.

Second, the controlled space must be used in direct support of, or in relation to, the institution’s educational purposes and frequented by students.

There in may lie the rub in all of this.

Easier than you think. It is a common secondary component in a lot of over the counter anti-inflammatory drugs and arthritis medications.
