Sports Forum / Re: HBCU Women's Basketball Attendance 2019-2020
« on: Yesterday at 12:49:58 PM »

pretty difficult to calculate women's basketball attendance because most hbcu's play women's conference games just before the men's conference games.  at what point do you determine women's attendance when attendance for both men's and women's games overlap and are "mixed together"?

i would put the "w" on both sides of the helmet and leave the numbers off altogether.  to me, numbers don't look good on the side of the helment...

shoot, i care about the mvfc because a&t was scheduled to play ndsu this fall.  now it appears that ndsu is gonna try to put together a fall 2020 schedule of non-conference games a** uming they won't play in the spring if the mvfc decides to do so...

why do i get a sense that there might be a "fab five" like movement in the works at howard...

Sports Forum / Re: UCONN Cancels Football Season
« on: August 06, 2020, 09:44:36 AM »

heck, uconn is doing themselves a favor by not playing football this fall.  first of all, they haven't had a winning season in ages, their record has been 6-30 over the last 3 seasons.  their football program is "bleeding red", losing tons of money with or without covid-19.  and now they're a football "independent"?

shoot, nobody at uconn is gonna miss football this fall...

i never knew what attracted black athletes to go to liberty until a month ago when i drove pa**  liberty university on my way to lynchburg to pick up a siberian husky puppy.  man, liberty has a "gorgeous" campus, everything i saw on their campus has "money" written all over it, including their athletic facilities...

SMH

I'm not sure why you are shaking your head.

Because of this arguement. Since we have this desire to only compete against other Black instutions and only have HBCU a** ociations, i am waiting for these visionaries to have HBCU championships in all sports and have HBCUs effectively withdraw from the NCAA.

That way as Ram55 says , we grow and help ourselves
So when your school played aganist Elon and the other PWI's. They magically became hbcus for the day? Using your logic, then why is it okay for PWIs to only play PWIs?  For the life of me I will never understand this a** inine way of thinking?

No but your not understanding what i'm saying. If it is so taboo for A&T to be apart of a white athletic confernce , why is it ok for any HBCU to be apart of the NCAA? Aren't they also a white instution. Why not create our own govering body of just HBCUs that benefits HBCUs , since being affliated with a white conference is such an issue

professor, you're comparing apples to oranges.  nobody is advocating that hbcu's compete "exclusively" against hbcu's.  "zero" hbcu's do that.  all hbcu conferences are members of the ncaa and all hbcu's play ooc games against pwc's.

however, what folk are saying is that hbcu's have a long legacy of being discriminated against and therefore have a long history of indirectly "supporting each other".  hence, the creation of 4 hbcu athletic conferences where hbcu's pretty much "give back to their own".

by leaving an hbcu conference to join a pwc conference, all forms of a&t's athletic "support" (which is very significant) is taken away from an hbcu conference and shifted to a pwc conference.  it has "nothing" to do with the ncaa in general, comparing conference affiliation to being members of the ncaa is like comparing apples to oranges...

JBROB- He's is just uninformed. Its our job to help that brother along. You give me hope that the true Aggie Pride still exist in Greensboro. Sorry if I disrespected you in some of my earlier posts.

apologies are in order for more aggies than just jbrob.  you cannot paint all aggies with the same brush.  virtually the only thing i've ever agreed with you about was regarding our move to the big south conference, including your insinuation that we're "sellouts".

just like wssu had alums who did not favor wssu moving to the meac, there are also some aggie alums who do not agree with our chancellor's decision to move to the big south conference.  so to paint all aggies with the same brush regarding the big south decision is "inappropriate".

your criticism should be aimed at those who made the decision which are the bot and dr. martin.  the vast majority of aggie alums had "zero" say so regarding this move.  even alums like myself who is an annual a&t donor didn't have any say so regarding leaving the meac.

to this very day, i still have not come to accept the move to a pwc conference.  the closer we get to becoming an official member of the big south conference, the more my enthusiasm for aggie athletics subsides and that's very unfortunate.

i don't want no parts whatsoever of the big south conference and i refuse to directly contribute not even one single nickel of my money to the big south conference.  matter fact, since our announcement to join the big south, i have donated money to both south carolina state and norfolk state just as a small gesture to show my support for my fellow hbcu's.

the big south conference can "kick rocks" for all i care.  that's not my home!  the big south is not where i belong nor is it where a&t belongs...

Speaking on behalf of Norfolk State University, we thank you humbly for your donation.
And as a fellow HBCU, we hate to see A&T leave the MEAC for the Big South Conference. But I would absolutely love to see A&T beat every Big South opponent they schedule.

good peeps at scsu and nsu, that's why i chose those 2 schools.  i always like visiting scsu and nsu because ya'll got pa** ionate fans but at the same time they are very hospitable.  a&t may be leaving the meac, but my support shall strongly remain in the meac...

But isn't the logo as racist as the nickname?

you must be thinking about the cleveland "indians" in mlb.  their "name" is not racist, but their logo is.  the redskins were just the "opposite".  their "name" was racist, but their logo/mascot is not racist.  some would even consider their logo "honorable".

so the redskins logo/mascot is not what got them in trouble, instead their "name" is what got them in trouble.  i don't think anyone would complain about keeping the logo/mascot as long as they got rid of the "name".

no one complains about the golden state "warriors" because the name is not offensive.  the atlanta braves gets some complaints but not because of their "name", but instead because of the "tomahawk chop" done by their fans...

if they go with the name "warriors", then they can keep the same logo, mascot, and colors...

Sports Forum / Re: New Redskin Name
« on: July 14, 2020, 08:27:41 PM »

my favorite new name for the team are the "pigskins" because of the famous "hogs" offensive lines that were previously coached by the late joe bugel during the superbowl years.

fans already wear fake "hog noses" and dresses to the games in recognition of the "hogs", so that tradition could continue while linking the new name to the glory years.

besides, the team has been losing so much since snyder purchased the team, perhaps a new name will provide a fresh outlook for the future...
