I wonder how many football coaches in the SEC and ACC voted for Mr. Trump. If my son was offered a football scholarship to the University of Florida, Clemson, Alabama, Texas, Georgia, Mississippi, Duke or even UNC; would it matter to me as parent whether the coach voted for Mr. Trump or not? This election has given enlightened perspective towards how some people really feel about us as black people; some fifty or sixty years removed from segregation and Jim Crow. This can be a teachable moment for us as black people; policy matters. Where you stand on the issues matter. Last year, a player from an HBCU (NCCU) was drafted into the NFL. This proves that one can make it to the big leagues from a minority school. Just imagine if more of our best athletes decide to forgo the majority experience and come home to play for HBCU's, where would that place us?
Initially, I was not in favor of the celebration bowl; now I'm wondering if it's not such a bad thing overall. We got to wake up, all over black America. We got some power; some resources, some strength and faith; it does us no good if we don't know how to utilize these resources for the betterment of our state, nation and world.
God is in control
