Sports Forum / Life in the CFL

On the surface, it may seem like Butler is obligated to honor the CFL contract he signed. But given the limited window of opportunity most professional football players have, and the financial ramifications of spending another year in the CFL, Butler does have reason to voice his displeasure with the Toronto organization. As an American player within the CFL, Butler is set to earn $60,000 Canadian dollars (just under $48,000 USD) playing under a veteran minimum contract. The minimum salary for an NFL veteran with seven years of experience like Butler is $900,000 USD.

No one was injured in the incident, which according to a preliminary report occurred about 8:30 a.m. Thursday in the 2200 block of South Christian Hills Drive. A woman who lived in the house called the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office to report a black man had been trying to break into their house and her husband had chased him off with a shotgun. The teen, who was located near the street, is a freshman at Rochester High who said he had missed his bus so he was walking to school when he became lost in the subdivision and stopped at the address to ask directions.

Sports Forum / Blue Tigers win battle of Lincolns

Lincoln (Mo.) put together 442 yards of total offense, including 265 yards rushing, and bulldozed its way past the Lincoln (Pa.) Lions 49-19 for Steven Smith's first career head-coaching win.

"It feels good," Smith said. "But like I tell the guys, enjoy the moment. When the moment's over, that's part of being significant. Being significant means enjoy the journey, and when they journey's over, let's move to the next journey, which is Quincy."

Smith is the third-straight Lincoln head coach to win his home debut. Mike Jones and the Blue Tigers beat Avila 35-3 in 2011, while interim head coach Lee Johnson won his debut 12-9 against Lane last season.

It’s already gut-check time for Johnson C. Smith football.

For the second straight game, the Golden Bulls were undone by mistakes, this time in a 44-6 drubbing by Virginia State that showed cracks in every phase of the game. JCSU, which dropped to 0-2, couldn’t get out of its own way with three blocked punts and a muffed punt return on special teams. Worse, the Golden Bulls didn’t play with much enthusiasm in front of their home crowd at McGirt Field.

Sr. QB Dominick Trautz accounted for a school record six touchdowns, five passing and one rushing to lead the Cheyney Wolves to a 56-0 first half lead en route to a 56-28 victory over the Lincoln Lions in the Battle of the First on a soggy Saturday afternoon inside O'Shields-Stevenson Stadium.

The Wolves jumped out to a 35-0 lead after the first quarter with Trautz opening the scoring with a 9-yard run and connecting on a 12-yard pass to Jr. TE Kyle Berlin and two more scoring tosses to R-Fr. WR Brandon Joyner for 20 and 37 yards, sandwiched around a 1 yard TD run by Fr. RB Damon Williams.
