Maybe someone at the ABC affiliate in Atlanta should read his bio...I was sitting in my office today and the noon news came on; they made a brief mention right off the top, then went to their next story...(really?) I was curious, so I read up on Mr. Jordan, and didn't know he was born in Atlanta, represented Hamilton Holmes and Charlayne Hunter Gault, who broke the color barrier at the University of Georgia, among many of his major contributions.

Vernon Jordan has much, much more to his credit as a humble, yet driven and accomplished professional; why he was not given a full video report on today's news baffles me.  If Gayle King stated the news this morning on CBS, clearly all of the Atlanta local stations had time to prepare a piece for noon.  Maybe someone did run a package...but I was just watching Channel 2, and they didn't.  Needless to say...I'm disappointed in them.

Did I miss something???  There was no story, other than a blurred photo of a black man.  Is this real?

I gotta say...our 1978 and 1979 showdowns were classic; my freshman year (77) MoBrown destroyed us at Herndon.  We got even the next year (78) in what most would consider a "draw" over at Lakewood Stadium.  That year, they still outnumbered us, as they did in '77...but we added trumpets, some woodwinds and a few more lower brass.  With those additions, we were much more comfortable, as well as more talented...and we blew Earth, Wind and Fire's "Magic Mind" during halftime. We blew dat a-- away! :dedhorse:...then they damn near tucked their tails between their legs and left the stadium as soon as the game was over. They didn't want no showdown from the stands.  :nono2:

We took it up a notch in 1979 as our director - Rod Smith, wrote a cold-a-- arrangement of "After The Love Has Gone"...which was a half step higher than Morris Brown's.  We were in the stands...beginning of 4th quarter and MoBrown decided to play their version.  We barely let them finish when we exploded with our version, which literally sounded brighter, more energetic and heavenly.  The crown went wild!  Even their students were cheering us. Unbelievable.

Hard work can overcome many obstacles.

This is history that should be celebrated not just at HBCUs, but across an (unlimited) NCAA sports perspective.

I like Chris' 360 view - being a professional athlete, entrepreneur, community oriented ambassador and friend to HBCUs.  I used to play ball against his father back in the late 70s at Sprague Street recreation center.  (in Winston-Salem)  :snicker

That's great! My Groove Brother getting it done!

JT, they need to build a visitor's side, but I believe they didn't want to "distract" the view of the King Chapel.  Heck, I wish they'd wrap all the way around the end zone to connect to a visitors' bleachers.  Can you imagine how crunk dat end zone would be on game day?  We need something special, that would brand our stadium like 'Skegee! Da shed!!!

If you ain't been under it, you ain't lived!!

During the spring (of 2020) I drove by and there was work underway to install new turf.  I actually got out of my car and walked up to the fence to watch the work being done.  After five minutes, I began to leave, there were some college officials leaving the adjacent building and they were headed to the field.  I asked and they stated that there were improvements underway.

I am now looking forward to the track improvements as well.

I'd even go as far to say they could air the halftime performances...git dat raw video, without the broadcast announcers interrupting the flow.

Dang, I'd love to see 'Bama State vs. 'Bama A&M, FAMU vs. B-Cookman, Jackson St. vs. Grambling, NC A&T vs NCCU, Howard vs. Hampton, etc....

    :snicker
