Having this game, as well as the SWAC Basketball tournament in Houston was destined to failed due to Incompetent SWAC leadership.
Having 2 games in ATL would not be a good move.

We look Bush League like for about now... I honestly do not understand how Duer Sharp still has a job.

Education is Key.. However, compassion, acceptance, and love for people Wins. Instead many Blacks condemn and shun people away.

If these dudes were not so afraid to live their lives, they may or may not be open to treatment and prevention.

Oh and HIV and AIDS are totally different conditions.  I hope all you educated folks realize this.    :snicker

Dr. Bynum was not our choice; he actually received a resounding No from the JSU stakeholders and SGA, resulting in him not moving on to a 2nd interview.

I think after word broke of the Florida Memorial president and alumni raised Hell, the IHL pulled back and made this "safe hire". I will say that everything that has made JSU a success are already in place. Dr. Bynum needs to just come in and focus on the finances. He has had much success with MS Valley's finances. Dr. Bynum can also strengthen our strained relationship with IHL.

Sidenote: He will be on campus next Wednesday taking questions from faculty, students and alumni. I hope he wears the whole armour of God because JSU folks are a different animal.  I just want to know how he plans to continue our growth in STEM, enrollment/housing, and managing a research institution with 10K students.

I hope he does well, but us Jag know all too well the reality of "Homeboy Hook-ups" at HBCUs!!!

A safe hire is not always the Best hire....

Truly miss the SU/FAMU Rivalry.... :'(

One of the best in ALL of HBCU football..

Yes, indeed. This should be an annual event just like other ferocious rivalries...if not annual at least every 2 or 3 years....at least! How do our schools keep LOSING these storied traditions is beyond me. WHY do we give them up? What have we gained from giving them up? And NOT talking about JUST Southern/FAMU either.....

Good question Jay.  I know that they could no longer schedule the SU/FAMU game due to the 9 game mandate at the time.  Now that we are back to the 7 game mandate, hopefully this will get back on track... The Home/Home series dates back to 1941.  The series ended in 2001. The teams did not play again until 2007.

Here's  a sample of just how intense it gets old film from a game with 1st place on the line if memory serves me. There should be a few more clips of this game in the players list below.

I believe this was Coach Pete Richardson's third season at Southern, which explains why Coach Richardson said what he said by choosing Southern over the D2 school that he previously coached just off of fan support alone.  The capacity of Mumford Stadium at that time was only 24k.  Before Coach Richardson, Southern biggest out of conference rivalry was FAMU.  Both the JSU and the FAMU games would easily have 30k plus in attendance at Mumford Stadium.  Now that Mumford Stadium has expanded to 29k, the JSU games average around 32k plus.  SU and FAMU definitely need to get back to their home and home series.  IMO, the next stadium expansion should be additional seats and suites in the south endzone with an upper deck and suites added to the eastside not long after that.  That should raise Mumford Stadium capacity somewhere between 45k to 50k.

Indeed we need to close in the Endzone.  No more Suites though... smh.  lol

SU/JSU game is one of the, if not, THEE most heated HBCU rivalry you will ever see.

It consistently has crowds of 30,000- 60,000(in the 90s)
Each school HATES the other.
Band Battle before, during, and after
Fan Battle.... Sometimes literally..   Like last year.
Tailgating is basically a huge Festival/Reunion
Hotel occupancy is usually Sold-out be Gameday.

It is something you all should experience ONCE, if you dare.  It is worth it.

BoomBox is on my sports bucket list.

Make it a Reality!  You won't regret it!

I will definitely be there this year.  The game returns to Jackson, MS.
