How Howard University Finally Made It Back to March Madness

During his first season as head basketball coach at Howard University, in 2019-2020, Kenny Blakeney tried to tune out all the noise. That task, however, proved near impossible. His team slogged through a 4-29 season. Not that 20-loss seasons were at all irregular at Howard: the men had lost 20 or more games 19 times in the previous 24 campaigns.

Still, Blakeney—a Duke graduate who won a national championship as a freshman in 1992—was hired to bring a winning pedigree to Howard.

« on: January 24, 2023, 09:54:07 AM »
MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - A recent survey released shows that Alabama State has the best athletic facilities among all HBCUs. SISTABruhtha conducted the survey and the results came back favoring the Hornets.

Alabama State opened New ASU Stadium back in 2012 and according to the survey, it's what propelled the Hornets to the top. When paired with the Acadome and Track Complex, Alabama State pulls together a trio of facilities that are tough to beat.

Why is his message so unclear? That dude said he's done more for them and he hasn't even been hired. Anyone believing that is more proof of the rampant stupidity among some of us 😂🤣😂🤣😂 these HBCUs need to cut the celebrity worship that's persistent in black American culture and go with some folks that are actually capable and trustworthy.

Jackson State head coach Deion Sanders will be featured on 60 Minutes on Sunday.

Journalist Jon Wertheim and the CBS 60 Minutes crew recently spent time with the NFL Hall of Famer at Jackson State University to examine how Sanders was able to transform the football program all while uplifting HBCU football and the city where the team calls home.

Sitting on his porch staring at the ocean off a balcony at a condo in Jamaica, Rod Broadway laughs about his favorite Shawn Gibbs memory.

A legendary coach at multiple Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Broadway helped mold Gibbs’ coaching career when Broadway tabbed Gibbs for various roles on his staffs at Grambling and North Carolina A&T.

But the startling move that Broadway made – to go from a veteran, nine-win Grambling program to rebuild A&T on the heels of the nadir of that school’s football history – was ripe with obstacles, even as it meant a return to the home states of both Broadway and Gibbs.

To hear Nick Saban tell it, historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) are thriving in the NIL era by shelling out million-dollar paydays to the country’s top athletes and closing the talent gap between Power 5s and mid-majors in one fell swoop.

“I don’t even make a million!” Jackson State football coach Deion Sanders tweeted in response to Saban’s unsubstantiated claim that Sanders paid Travis Hunter, the No. 1 prospect in the SI99 recruiting rankings, the inordinate amount.
