Everyone is truly saddened by this.  He was well liked and respected here in Montgomery.

Ironically Kobe and Gigi were both born on 8/23 and both died on 1/26. :'(

I think this may be inaccurate.  Several sites list her birthday as May 1

So how do the alumni feel about it?  Especially the older alumni?

I think for the most part, older alumni are fine with it.  After the change from Tuskegee as Turkey Day opponent, things have fizzled and I agree 100% with Jay_Thomas.  Before the change from Tuskegee, many ASU alumni clubs from around the country would have representation in the parade and had queens that were presented at halftime. There was a National Alumni Association queen and to be honest, too many of them and sometimes Miss ASU and her court were overshadowed.  There were numerous annual reunions of people coming from all over taking place in the hotels around town- especially classes connected to area high schools.  What once was, is gone.....

I see some of the younger alumni commenting about homecoming in October will be affected by the Magic City Classic- they are too close together and the cost of attending both may be prohibitive.  This is countered by many more who think it's finally about time that the students have a homecoming they can enjoy rather than having their activities the week before Thanksgiving and then going home when the game is actually played.

Southern is a great opponent to kick off this new deal. I would have to believe that their band will be a part of it!

So will they still be having the Turkey Day classic at all?

from the AD in the article   "....By moving Homecoming to a different date, our fans will now have the opportunity to take part in three big home contests with the Labor Day Classic and the Turkey Day Classic."

Bama State has moved homecoming from Turkey Day which will allow students to have the traditional HBCU homecoming experience.  This year is against Southern on Oct 10

So are you saying Tuskegee had a big part in the success of this game

OH HEYAL YEAH!!!!

  Skegee's side would be P A C K E D!!!!

When Miles played in it, they also brought a nice crowd.

Stillman?  that was a mistake!

There were very few vendors, which I am used to seeing the street the stadium is on lined with vendors selling everything and the street packed with people...this time, maybe a 10th of what you normally would see.

Very few vendors even for the Labor Day Classic with Tuskegee  on the stadium street.   Don’t know how many, but vendors at Labor Day Classic were  on Carter Hill Road, just off campus (near National Center for Civil Rights and African American Culture)

Definitely that!  As a Montgomery native, I grew up on the Turkey Day Classic .  Even before my first thought of actually attending TU, I remember the excitement  of the parade and waiting to see Tuskegee’s band come down Dexter Avenue.  Then several of the out of town high school bands would be at the game and one or two would perform after the game.  There was an excitement
the whole week, hotels were packed, the atmosphere was electric.  The stadium would be packed. Thanksgiving dinner after the game was ‘arguing’ about the  game😊

That is gone but this past Classic was pathetic.   PVAMU
Did not bring the band nor cheerleaders.  No high school band was in the stand.   The student section was mainly missing.  There was no “ pageantry”  as in the past-a paltry handful of balloons were  released.  Bama State played NO football until after we had left late in the 3rd quarter.  Felt like a regular home game.  The crowd was decent but no excitement whatsoever.

100% accurate.  Fallen off so badly.
It was THE worst!  Hate to see it and say it.
Worse than a regular home game
