I think the problem has to do with the fact that women would rather watch men play sports, and men would rather watch men play sports. If there were some way to get more women to support women athletes through attendance and viewership, this would not be a problem.

^^^^This^^^^

They are trying to sell a product nobody wants to see.

i wouldn't say "nobody" wants to see it.  i know i luv watching women's sports, maybe not as much as the men, but i luv it nonetheless.  only difference between men's and women's sports other than gender is that men are bigger, stronger, and more "athletic" than women.  other than that, the women are just as "fundamentally sound" as the men are and they play a much cleaner game than the men.

i enjoy watching both men and women...

Gotta give props to a&t for knowing how to schedule the lighter weight FBS and FCS squads.

i wouldn't necessarily call unc, tulsa, or duke "lightweights".  and ecu isn't really a "lightweight" either.  i'll give you kent state and charlotte as fbs lightweights.  but jacksonville state and elon ain't no fcs "lightweights", both have been consistent fcs playoff teams in recent years and both were ranked to the top 25 when we played them.  matter fact, jsu was ranked "top 6" until we beat them and last year elon beat the top ranked fcs team in the country (jmu) that won the national championship 2 years ago.

and speaking elon, when was the last time nccu beat elon, since elon is such a "lightweight"?  hit me back when you figure that out because i already know the answer...

yeah, apparently dude don't know that when elon beat jmu last year, jmu was ranked #1 in the nation at the fcs level.  yeah, elon is a "lightweight" alright...

surprised scsu didn't have higher attendance than that, they normally have a very strong fanbase.  but maybe now that they upset wofford, some of their fanbase will return...

Sports Forum / Re: Top 100 NFL players from HBCU programs

wow, i thought this was about "current" nfl players.  the title of this thread threw me off.  was 'bout to say, i didn't know we had 100 "current" nfl players in the league that came from hbcu's...

man, can't ya'll see that ya'll are being "played" by hbcu gameday founder, steve gaither? he got everything he wanted out of this "non-story". it got his name in the public eye all over the place, message boards blowing up, social media blowing up, and newspapers quoting his post. he even "forced" our athletic director to go on record to clear his mess up!

gaither basically "farted" in ya'll elevator and left it there for ya'll to smell! can't believe ya'll even fell for it...

 huh?  which conference is eyeing a&t?  what!!  omg.  see!  that's what i mean.  gaither caused you mofo's to completely take this subject matter "out of context".

which conference is eyeing a&t?   :brickwall:

Not really.  Say after your evaluation you decide to go for it, wouldn’t you want to be in a conference?
Being an independent is a tough road.  So, shouldn’t a conference affiliation be part of the initial analysis?

that's just it!!  there is no "evaluation".  you got "played" by hbcu gameday's steve gaither.  this story is a "nothing burger", so there is no evaluation.  ya'll got "played"...

ain't happening, folks!!  plain and simple.  time to move on...  :tiptoe:

Sports Forum / Re: MLS expands to St. Louis; team to start in 2022
« on: August 20, 2019, 05:26:50 PM »

wow!  the mls has got to be america's fastest growing mainstream professional team sports league.  at the rate they're going, soon they will have as many franchises as the nba (30), mlb (30), and the nfl (32).  this new franchise will give the mls 28 teams and counting...

Steven Gaither please explain...…... since you pretty much started this mess.

How did Steven start this?

he "over re-acted", that's how he started this mess.  he gave everybody the impression that our chancellor had indeed committed to pursuing fbs status for a&t but he didn't have the "facts" to back it up.  instead, gaither should've held off on posting what he posted until he got "all of the facts".

but no, he left the rumor out there with very little "facts" to back it up.  he left out there for others to ponder the notion that dr. martin was actually weighing the possibility of transitioning to the fbs level and now we know that was not the case.  as a result, the message boards and social media blew the hail up!!

i hate to say it cuz i am no fan at all of trump, but gaither pretty posted "fake news".  from what i gather from our ad, our chancellor was not "seriously" looking into going fbs and gaither failed to report it that way...

me personally, i do not support such a move.  we simply do not have the resources to compete at that level.  at least at the fcs level, we have a "fighting chance" to make some noise at the highest levels.  but at the fbs level, we have virtually "zero chance" of making noise at the highest levels.

so why even waste time and money trying to do so?  money raised to advance to the fbs level can be better used to build a true powerhouse at the fcs level...

oleschoolaggie - right now you can't make that move with what you have. However, planning long tern for what is needed to do so is what we're talking about. A&T can look a lot different in 15 years. If you approach a diverse population of 20,000 students and maintain your success at your current level, it would be a natural move to move up. This would be similar to what App. State did when they moved up. Right now, schools on that level would destroy ya'll, but maybe not in 15 years with proper planning. It has to start somewhere if its ever going to happen.

real simple, we can't even out spend pwc fcs schools and we certainly can't keep pace in terms of spending and resources with the top fcs schools like north dakota state.  so why would anybody believe that an hbcu can keep pace in terms of spending with fbs schools?  much less "bcs" schools.

i would also argue that there's a "glass ceiling" at the fbs level and that glass ceiling is called the "bcs".  the bcs schools are "way out of reach", impossible to outspend.  so why even bother?

now that more details have come out regarding dr. martin's statement, it is clear that a&t has no imminent plans of transitioning to the fbs level anytime soon.  so to me, this idea of moving to the fbs level is a "non-issue"...

When you graduate coaches want your money to give to a young player unless you were a star and helped them win.  That's why you see so many graduate transfers, they don't have the option of staying.

i don't agree that that's the reason most graduates transfer.  but if coaches do do that, it sends a very "negative" message to the rest of the team that the coaches will "snatch" your scholarship away even though you still have one year of eligibility remaining.

coaches want their players to be "loyal" to the program, they preach "loyalty" all the time.  well, players want their coaches to be "loyal" too!  you snatch away somebody's scholarship just because they are not a starter is a very poor message to send to your team...

I hear what you are saying and yes in some cases that is true but take note of how many 5th year seniors you see on rosters at the QB position.  It appears coaches take the approach if you not really getting it done by year 4 its time to move on as, imho, that appears to be happening.

i think most "graduate transfers" are simply taking advantage of the rule that says they do not have to sit out a year if they transfer.  i don't think most transfers occur because their former team is taking their scholarship away.

usually its because they don't foresee starting at their former school and they only have one year of eligibility left, so they transfer some place else where they've got a good chance of "starting" without having to sit out a year.  many of them would not transfer if they had to sit out a year...
