Sports Forum / Re: Is Merger in the cards for XFL and USFL?
« on: Today at 05:50:50 PM »
Do we have any big spring football fans onboard here? What's the chance of both leagues merging and making a go of it? More jobs for HBCU players.

imho, both leagues need to concentrate on financially staying above water on a sustainable basis before they consider any mergers.  lol, both leagues came back from the "dead"...

dawn wearing a cheyney state university warmup jacket during the march madness game against norfolk state tells you everything you need to know about dawn's personal "integrity".  dawn being called a "class act" is an "understatement"...

i'd like to see the nfl get rid of their existing "pass interference" penalty and replace it with one that's similar to the college rule except under "egregious" circumstances, place the ball where the pass interference occurred akin to existing rules.

i don't like that a "judgement call" such as pass interference which is sometimes wrong, can literally penalize a team the full length of the football field.  so do like college, penalize the team a 15 yard penalty and award the opposing team an automatic first down "except" under egregious circumstances, place the ball where the foul was committed.  that way, the defense can't just intentionally obliterate a receiver and only be penalized 15 yards...

Nah.

In college, DBs routinely just grab receivers down field when they get beat because they know the penalty is only 15 yards.

that's "egregious"!  under my proposal, "egregious" acts such as "intentionally" grabbing a receiver would be penalized under the existing rule whereby the line of scrimmage would be placed at the spot of the foul instead of just a 15 yard penalty or both if the interference occurred less than 15 yards down field...

the same way "running into the kicker" is different from "roughing the kicker" penalties.  so a referee has the option of determining whether a pass interference is "egregious" or not. "intentionally" grabbing a receiver would be ruled as "egregious"...

he may as well sell the team, he has not been very successful as the hornets owner.  wasn't as easy as he thought it would be...

welp, down goes another celebrity coach!  first it was pat ewing, now its juan dixon.  goes to show that being a celebrity "alone" does not "automatically" mean that you'd become a great head coach.  there are other attributes that a celebrity needs in order to excel as a head coach at the college level.

everybody can't be deion sanders...

He was coaching and was in a reality show with his wife.

perhaps his "focus" wasn't where it should've been...

as a commanders fan, i'd luv to have jackson as our starting qb.  but the "price tag" is too steep.  can't see giving up "2" first round draft picks for jackson, that's a deal breaker for me.  if it were only "1" first round draft pick, i could live with that...

luv it!!

I need a bit more info on this one.
:(.......yeah, me too.  But there is something else that troubles me about this growing trend to "villainize" transgender folks.  There was a time in this country's not-too-distant past when all-white athletic teams would refuse to enter a contest in which their opponents had one or more negro athletes.  Yeah, that actually happened WITHIN the life span of a great number of peeps on this board.

Let's think about that.

you make a valid point, but they are "two totally different things".  folk can't control what race they are born into and race has no bearing on "physical athletic ability" per se'.  whereas, folk can control whether they are transgender or not and becoming a transgender "does" have a bearing on "physical athletic ability" relative to male and female sports competition.

so i see the two as two "totally" different things...

Sports Forum / Re: WSSU vs A&T
« on: March 02, 2023, 02:18:33 PM »
96 this is NOT a thread about playing y'all.  I have a friendly bet going with a very-long-time Aggie supporter and one of their past superstars in basketball.

They don't recall losing to us in Greensboro during his playing days.  I tried to refresh his memory that we swept them in his freshman year, including some other things about that game that might help him recall. Someone even sent me an NAIA themed site that has our results from back in the day.  It showed the results, but of course they didn't accept it from a WSSU perspective. ;)

Besides going to the library and looking for the paper article, can any of you Aggies point me to a site that would have full season results of your games?  One gives partial results for the season in question.

you could probably find that information in our men's basketball media guide.  you can do a "men's basketball media guide" search at our main athletics website to bring it up...

Sports Forum / Re: Breaking News : Del St Bowling Team Bus Crash
« on: February 24, 2023, 02:11:44 PM »
omg!  talk about deja vu?  man, i pray that all involved did not suffer serious injuries and if so, a speedy and full recovery to them all.

this is kinda scary to me because i'd just finished watching an episode of "all american" on tv not long ago where taye diggs' character as a high school football coach died in a bus accident while traveling with his players.  there were no clues that his bus would have an accident but i almost knew it was gonna happen before it actually happened.

then i come on onnidan to find that dsu's bowling team's bus got into an accident.  wow, that's scary...

Sports Forum / Re: Is the CIAA Tournament...
« on: February 23, 2023, 01:57:04 PM »
I still say it was a mistake to move the tournament to Baltimore; other than Bowie State, there isn't a huge market for the CIAA brand up there IMO. Now it is early in the tournament and folks maybe still coming, but it still needs to be a better attendance; too too many empty seats.

For a Wednesday it wasn't that bad.
That was not the Wednesday night crowd I remember.   What are the temps up there?

40s yesterday.  70s today.

yes!!  feels like a "spring day" up in this area today.  so weather won't be a deterrent from folk attending.  i'm even giving thought to the idea of making the 40 minute drive up to baltimore myself just to hang out and mingle...
