This is neither new nor surprising. Over the last 10 years, employers have been shifting more and more of the costs, as well as cutting back more and more on what the policies will cover, including higher copays, higher deductibles before the insurance even starts coverage, you name it...

So when the cost of health care continues to rise, don't any of you "cut spending, cut taxes, no universal health care" types open your mouths. When you or your loved ones have that one illness that wipes you out financially, please don't come back here whining and crying. You had a chance to do something and you chose not to - so STFU...

GK, you need to STFU.  There will be many Americans who will lose out on excellent health plans for Obamacare and you can't even tell us how Obamcare will work.  You can't provide any proof that anyone will get better healthcare with Obamacare.

Y i hate to call names so forgive me .....but you are a complete idiot

I never hear you conservative types complain when CEO's cut jobs to paid there bottom line and take higher bonuses

I never hear you folks rage when businesses cut healthcare and benefits ...at the expenses of the folks at the bottom in order to make earning indexes appear more healthy

You folks sit hear and believe in your hearts that business can do no wrong you think business men have the best interests of the country in mind .... they have whats best for them in mind ...they could care less about anything that common man goes through

you folks are truly sad ...and hopefully you can experience what its like to have an employer screw you over so that hopefully one day you will wake up

bigram, you are the idiot.

I never hear you liberal types complain about jobs going overseas.

You people have yet to complain about NAFTA.

You people have yet to complain about unfair trade agreements.

You people have yet to complain about Obama giving Brazil billions to drill for oil that we will buy when we have more oil here.

You people have yet to complain about giving Brazil oil jobs while unemployment in this country is 9%.

You people have yet to complain about a healthcare bill that none of you can explain how it's going to work.

I didn't hear one complaint from you people about the stimulus bill that put billions in the hands of big corporations.  None of you took the position of Maxine Waters.

Because it's called Obamacare you will blindly support it and not care how much it screws you.

You're right - I can't tell you how many will lose out. But I can tell you that there won't be that many because there are no more "excellent" health plans except for what the taxpayers pay for these idiots in local, state and national government. THEY are the only ones who have excellent health care plans. Almost everyone who has any type of health insurance - good, bad or indifferent - has been and continues to be f-d over by you Republicans and your never ending mantra of what YOU think is best for everyone else. You are the same folks who bitch and complain but manage to find AND USE every damn loophole available to give you more and take from others. The continuous greed of those of your ilk is what has sent this country careening to hell in a handbasket - and your continuous yapping about cutting taxes and helping business has done nothing but send this country further and further into debt - a debt that you want to rise out of on the backs of the working poor and retired. So no y, you STFU and go do your homework.

Wit' his lyin' a--. Moderates and liberal on this board complained mightily about NAFTA, jobs going overseas, and unfair trade agreements because it all amount to neo-conservatives' quest to de-unionize America, wipe out the middle class, and lower the quality of life among average Americans...

If this is the case we do need a national health insurance plan.

Like people should really feel sorry for privately owned health insurance companies.

And I said you are a liar and you are. If no one else has complained about it on THIS board, I have. You have continued to sit your snarky @zz over there talking #$%^ and not paying attention. Perhaps you have dyslexia or something. If you READ my post, I didn't say government workers - this is what I said:

idiots in local, state and national government.

Reading with comprehension is essential. No where did I say government workers. You are trying to play stupid to try to have a gotcha moment. If you are referring to the UAW, not only did they lose a whole lot of pay, they also lost benefits. I suggest you check your facts because once again, you're talking #$%^ that you don't know.

And you are right. I am a trade unionist and proud of it. As a matter of fact, if it weren't for me and others like me, your stupid @zz wouldn't have insurance, vacation time, sick days, pension/401K, overtime provisions, 40-hr work week, FMLA, OSHA making sure you have a SAFE workplace, long/short term disability pay, unemployment compensation, minimum/living wage, or any of the other benefits that your employer may provide.

The only reason most employers have come up with any of this stuff is because of laws that have been passed OR to keep the union out. It isn't now, wasn't then, and never will be because they think you "deserve" it or because you are such a wonderful employee... ::)

y, people like you do not have a clue about how the medical industry are taking advantage of people with excellent coverage. You have to understand these people will not lose any money, but they must treat people who cannot afford to pay, and how do you suppose they make up that money?
 :tiptoe:
 :tiptoe:
y, I have found out that Doctors are in no hurry to solved the issue with a person with "excellent" coverage especially if the illness is not life threating. I have found that they tend to want to run every test but the right test. It took me 20 plus years to find out that I have allergies. I recall when I was around 16-17, I would wake up at nights during the summer with chest pains and could barely breathe. My mother took me to a doctor who had me wear a heart monitor, but they could not find anything wrong with my heart. After a while the problem stopped, but it would come back and my heart would feel as it skipped a beat. y, I had no idea whether I was going to live or die, but over time the problem got worst until one day, I woke feeling like I was about to have a heart attack.

I went to several doctor who wanted to run every test but the right test on me when they saw I had Blue Cross & Blue Shield.-----$$$$$$$$$$$! I was told that sleep apnea. They ran some very expensive tests on me but that did not solve the problem.  A doctor tried to make me diabetic, but I did not claim that. I was told i had high blood pressure. I have been told I had many things, so I took matters in my own hand.  The best thing that happened to me was going to Palm Springs because I noticed that I was breathe and my blood pressure was 112/70 all the time I was out there. I could not wait to get back to the doctor because I want to show him the numbers and i had an appoint the next day upon my return. The doctor canceled my appointment and two weeks late my BP was throw the roof. I started to notice that when I could breathe my BP was normal and I told that to the doctor who told me to shut up and let him do his job. >:(

I changed Doctor and I found an intern to work with. I went to Grady in Atlanta and found out that the people were pretty good. Since I was saying I could not breathe and had possible heart problems, I had a check up every 2-3 months.  When I was breathing, all test showed normal, but one day, I could not breath and had an appointment. I barley made it in the office and the interns had to help me. They checked my BP and it was sky high. I told them to check the past six and it showed normal. I explain to him that I could not breath, so he check my lungs and he discovered that I was only getting air half way. I never knew my lungs ran down my back so low.

Now y, when I look back, the signs were there because if I used certain deodorants, I would break out. The doctor had this on record prior to my breathing problem. To make a long story short, I will say this, I approve of Obamacare because it can mandate that doctors need to run every possible test instead of "guessing" what is wrong.  I believe Allergies tests should be ran on every person every year. Look at all the money my folks and I spend on the wrong problem instead of then solving the issue the first time. It would have been cheaper to treat me for allergies than trying to treat a problem that did not exist in the first place.

BTW, I am about to drop another Doctor who is upset because he can find anything wrong with me. He wants to run test every time and seems to get upset because all my test are normal. He wants to lost 50 pounds, but I been trying to explain that I might have other issues. Now is it natural for a person to have a bowel movement every 3-4 days? He claims that my metabolizing is slow. If that is the case, I show only eat every four days.

It is strange but I work out 5-6 times a week but I can only lose two pounds every six months. I am going to see how my new program work for me. I am waling close five miles  a day, riding the bike 5 miles, and weightlifting at least 30 minutes a day.

Again you are the one lying like a cheap rug. Union workers are NOT the only ones who have "Cadillac" plan, and not ALL union workers even have those types of plans.

Corporate executives, upper, mid-level, and lower level managers and supervisors ALSO enjoy so-called "Cadillac" plans.

The site given in the OP is from Kaiser, a huge insurance provider WITH AN AXE TO GRIND.  That's OK.  They are entitled to their viewpoint.

But the article they cited in the Wall St Journal contains some info which tends to minimize the extreme and scary headline.
Quote
Behind the expected shift is the fact that the law will give Americans new insurance options outside the workplace, and carriers will no longer be allowed to deny people coverage because they have been sick. McKinsey found that reduced the moral obligation employers may feel to provide coverage.

The Obama administration says it is working to encourage employers to retain coverage. An administration official, Nick Papas, described the McKinsey report as an outlier amid other research suggesting that employers overwhelmingly would keep coverage.

"History has shown that reform motivates more businesses to offer insurance," he said. "When Massachusetts enacted health reform, the number of individuals with employer-sponsored insurance increased."

The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, in a March 2010 report, found that by 2019, about six million to seven million people who otherwise would have had access to coverage through their job won't have it owing to the new law. That estimate represents about 4% of the roughly 160 million people projected to have employment-based coverage in 2019.

However, the CBO estimated that the overall number of Americans with coverage will rise by 32 million because of new subsidies and other steps.

The law contains a disincentive for employers to drop coverage. It requires all employers with more than 50 employees to offer health benefits to every full-time worker or pay a penalty of $2,000 per worker, though it doesn't apply to the first 30 workers. Health-policy experts have questioned whether that is high enough to discourage companies from health coverage.

McKinsey found at least 30% of employers would gain economically from dropping coverage even if they completely compensated employees through other benefits or higher salaries. The study suggests the fallout would be minimal, with more than 85% of employees remaining in their jobs even if their employer stopped coverage.

GK is correct.  Insurance pays Doctors for tests not diagnosis.  The more test you run the more money you make.  Insurance is more of a cadillac plan for Doctors than for patients.
Also if a procedure or drugs WORKS and it is expensive insurance will stop covering that procedure or drug.  What Y does not understand is that insurance companies make their money by approving cheaper drugs(generic), and denying coverage.  If you work for an Aetna or Blue Cross as an MD your bonus is tied to how many people you can deny coverage or drugs too.

Precisely. On our plan, UnitedHealthCare/Caremark review the most popular/premium drugs every 60 to 90 days, and depending on the pharmaceutical cost, they determine whether they're going to cover its cost or not. If the drug does not have a generic equivalent, and it is a premium drug, it will go to the "Not Covered" list. If big pharma drops its price significantly on that drug, it may come back onto the "Covered" list. It's a money game that they play with the lives of those that are covered.
