Title: Poll on interracial marriage stuns some
Post by: Wildman78 on May 06, 2011, 10:07:14 AM
I thought I'd start a thread on this because the title of Bison66's thread on the same subject doesn't alert the reader to what the thread is really about. Sorry Bison66.

Nearly half of Mississippi Republicans believe interracial marriage should be
illegal, a new poll says.  The survey comes at the same time
Mississippi is leading the nation in the growth of mixed marriages.

According to Public Policy Polling, 46 percent of Mississippi Republicans said
marriages across racial lines should be illegal, compared to 40 percent who
believe it should be legal. Fourteen percent were not sure.

In a separate poll the firm did of Mississippi Democrats, 18 percent
believed interracial marriages should be illegal, 68 percent believed they should be legal and 14 percent were not sure.

"And this is 2011? Or is this 1961? Golly," said Marty Wiseman, director of the John C. Stennis Institute of Government and professor of political science at Mississippi State University. "That's the darndest thing I've ever  heard."

Tim Saler, executive director of the Mississippi Republican Party, questioned the firm that did the polling. "They are a partisan Democratic polling outfit," he said. "I happened to be in North Carolina last year, and I saw them rooting openly for the defeat of the Republican candidate so it's not outside the realm of possibility they would try to do something to embarrass Republicans. The Republican Party clearly has no comment. It doesn't reflect anything on the party or the party's positions."

Tom Jensen, director of Public Policy Polling, acknowledged his firm is a Democratic polling company, but "we stand by our numbers," he said. "We just asked the question, and that's how it came out." He said they have already asked the question in Georgia and plan to ask it in North Carolina as well. "We've also asked questions about the Civil War," he said.

Why anyone would think interracial marriage should be illegal is beyond me.

Because with interracial marriage you will produce a predominately black offspring, which if continues for generations will dilute the white race.  Frances Welsing calls it the fear of "genetic annihilation".  Remember Medlel's Law of Genetics--when you mate the black rooster with the white hen--you get three black chickens for every white chicken.

I'm not surprised by this at all. Some people are still very uncomfortable with mixed marriages.

You made a great point and based on those laws, white comes from black in the first place, so how can one even believe such a thing.

y is not gonna like this...

That's a lie.

Unlike the majority of the posters on this board I grew up seeing interracial marriages.  I went to school with interracial kids.

One question that I did not see is would those same people give their blessings to a couple of different races.  I watched an episode on "What Would You Do?" a few weeks ago and interracial marriages came up.  There was one guy who said he was against interracial marriages.  He also said he could not tell the interracial actors to not marry.  He said if you are in love he would not stop two people from getting married.  Just asking someone if they are against interracial marriages without asking them to explain is pointless.

What exactly are you saying is a lie y04185?

I think MisterIkester was saying you would not like it that 46% of Mississippi Republicans polled thought interracial marriages should be illegal and only18% of Mississippi Demcorats polled thought interracial marriage should be illegal. In the thread on this subject started by Bison66, you said if democrats were polled, the number would be higher.

You seemed to be missing the point.  According to the article, 46% of Republicans said they thought interracial marriages should be illegal, not that they were simply against them. How the heck can someone give their blessing  to something they think ought to be illegal. Can you think of an explanation, other than racism as to why a person would say that interracial marriages should be illegal?  If democrats and Republicans were asked the same question, and this poll is accurate, that would tend to show that Republicans are more likely to be racist than democrats, wouldn't it?

Would you like that?

Where is your proof that those Republicans are racist?  There are posters on this board that don't like interracial marriages.  Are they racist?  Your logic makes no sense.  I gave an example of someone that was on TV saying he was against interracial marriages.  That same person said he would tell an interracial couple to marry if they were in love.

People that are for or against interracial marriages can't be called racists or non-racists based on a simple question.  Why are the overwhelming majority of you people not in interracial marriages?  Are you people racist?  Your logic is moot.

Amazing

So drawing the conlusion that somebody that would go so far as to say that an Interracial Marriage should be illegal is a racist is some sort of a stretch?  Why would you assume that the Democrats numbers would be higher then?  Is it because they would be less racist?  Because according to your logic (or lack thereof), a high percentage of people thinking interracial marriage should be illegal isn't racist at all....

Its one thing to disapprove of interracial marriage and quite another to say interracial marriage should be illegal.

The proof of racism is that those 46% Republicans think that interracial marriage should be illegal. Again illegal.

How can you give your approval to something to something you think ought to be illegal. Again illegal,  as in against the dayum law.

I think anyone who thinks interracial marriage ought to be illegal  is  racist.  I think most reasonable people would agree with me.

If a person is so opposed to interracial marriage to the point that they think the law should forbid it, then yes, that person is a racist.

It's probably more accurate to say that people who think interracial marriage should be illegal
are more racist than people who  think interracial marrage should be egal.

Can you think of any reason other than racism why someone would want interracial marriage to be illegal?

You want to know why they aren't more interracial marriage  -- the answer is racism.

Everybody is a racist to a certain extent.  Some racism is subtle and slightly harmful.
Some racism is overt and very harmful . Saying that interracial marriage shoud be illegal is closer to the latter.

BTW, did you say my logic was moot.           I understand I have no chance of convincing you that you are misusing the word "moot"  ::)

They are just simply against interracial marriage.  I know Blacks that are against interracial marriage.  Are they racist?  Your argument is so weak.  There are posters on this board that have admitted their parents telling them to not bring a white person (as in spouse or girlfriend/boyfriend) home.  Are those poster's parents racist?  Blacks in California voted against same sex marriage.  Do those Blacks hate gays and lesbians?

Answer the questions.

Answer the questions.

I edited my last post before your last response. I'll summarize.

There is a difference between disappoving  of or being against interracial marriage, and wanting interracial marriage to be illegal.

If you are against interracial marriage you are racist. If you think interracial marriage should be illegal, you are very racist. Understand.

Blacks who told or who tell their children not to bring a white person in their house are racist but they aren't as racist as people who think all interracial marriages should be illegal.

I don't think all the people who voted against gay marriage hate gay people. I would guess that some of them did. But I do think that everybody who voted against gay marriage thought it was okay to discriminate against gays by preventing them form marrying one another. So, if you ask me if opposition to gay marriage is discriminatory toward gays, my answer is yes. if you asked me if those who voted against gay marriage are bigoted toward gays, my answer is yes.

I hope I've answered your questions.

I'm not sure you answered mine.  I asked what other reason besides racism could there be for someone wanting interracial marrage to be illegal.

Are you saying that being against interracial marriage is reason enough to want it to be illegal and therefore, it's not racist to want interracial marriage to be illegal.

Fear of miscegnation was often the misguided justification for the enactment of Jim Crow laws and the lynching of Black men.  You good and well know this.

I think you are being intellectually dishonest.

Maybe you ought to tell us what you think racism means.

Maybe you ought to provide some non racist reasons for being "against" (your terminology) interracial marriages or "race mixing" ( I use that phrase to make it plain).

y04's comments not only miss the entire point (support for passing a LAW to prohibit inter-racial marriage IS racist; we're NOT talking about an individual opinion that could vary depending on the circumstances), his comments are also MOOT because our own in-house expert, who knows it when he sees it, declares that it is racist.

I'll tell y'all again, y04 is not to be taken seriously, because he insists on it.
Trust me on that.

For example, he uses an anecdote of ONE person to try to combat a scientifically done poll.  Was the one person a Mississippi Republican?

No problem, Wildman.  Thanks for giving additional exposure to this poll result.

Here's a cross post from the "Highlander, need your expertise thread" to demonstrate that y04 is trying to ride two different horses at the same time:

Yes.....it's racism.....plain and simple. Why not ask the same question to Democrats? GO VIKINGS!!!

The numbers would be higher.

Well, well!!!
Here in this thread non-serious y04 didn't take exception to highlander's assessment that

Quote
Yes.....it's racism.....plain and simple.

THAT WAS BEFORE his prediction that the number of DEMOCRATS supporting a law to prevent inter-racial marriage WOULD BE HIGHER was proved drastically incorrect.

Confronted with the reality that MS Repubs, on this measure, are three times more racist than MS Dems, ALL OF A SUDDEN, now he claims that it is NOT racist!

So now in the other thread, he's trying to pick a nit and pretend that this is NOT a  clear cut case of racist thinking.

Y'all can fool with him if you want to...........

Wanting interracial marriage to be illegal is not racist in y04185's world.

Unbelievable.

Recap:

Bison 66 Starts a thread -- http://onnidan1.com/forum/index.php/topic,51010.0.html -- informing us that a poll was conducted and 46% of Mississippi Republicans thought that interracial marriages should be illegal. Bison 66 asks Uchighlander was it [an example of] racism.

Uchighlander responds:

Quote
Yes.....it's racism.....plain and simple. Why not ask the same question to Democrats?

y04185 responds to Uchiglander:

Quote
The numbers would be higher.

I show y04185 the poll results when democrats were asked the same question:

Quote
In a separate poll the firm did of
Mississippi Democrats, 18 percent
believed interracial marriages should be
illegal, 68 percent believed they should be
legal and 14 percent were not sure.

http://www.clarionledger.com/article/20110410/NEWS/104100341/1001/RSS01

I start this thread and y04185 says

It's not racist to think that interracial marriages should be illegal. He appears to be saying that there is no difference between those who believe interracial marriage should be illegal and those who are simply against interracial marriage. It's not racist to be against interracial marriage because some Black people are against interracial marriage.

Again, unbelievable.   ::) :no:

He's demonstrated in the past some of the best "weaseling" moves I've seen on O-dan, but this one is beyond even his dissembling talents.

He's become the Trump of O-dan - a joke.

You people missed the point.  You people also have no idea what the definition is of a racist.  I believe cigarettes should be outlawed.  That does not mean I hate people who smoke.  You people are letting your emotions control you.

Using the logic of you people, those of you that want abortion to remain legal hate babies.

To say someone is racist by wanting interracial marriages outlawed is ridiculous.  You people definitely have not bothered to investigate why someone would say that.  Are you people racist when you tell your children and family members 'you can to college anywhere you want.  My money is going to (insert HBCU)?'

Well obviously, you are including uchighlander when you reference "you people."  uchighlander, like most rational and honest people I know, has no problem saying that wanting interracial marriage to be illegal is plainly and simply, racism.

BTW, I did answer the questions you posed in your last response, didn't I?

Besides being way the heyal  out in left field, your cigarrette analogy is off the mark because you try to equate racism with hate. Sometimes racism also connotes hatred.  However that is not always the case. You appear to have a self-serving and narrow definition of racism.   There are examples of racism that don't involve hate. For instance having a belief that your race is superior to other races is racism, however that does not necessarily mean you hate members other races.

Your abortion analogy is so far off  off the point of this discussion, I hesitate to even address it. Nevertheless, again you  erroneously assume that there can be no racism without hate.  Aagin, that appears to be a narrow and self serving definition of racism.

As I tried  explaining to you earlier, and please feel free to respond to this thought:

Everybody is a racist to a certain extent.  Some racism is subtle and slightly harmful. Some racism is overt and very harmful . Saying that interracial marriage shoud be illegal is closer to the latter. A Black parent telling their child must go to an HBCU closer to the former.

I don't believe any rational person would equate a Black parent demanding his child to attend an HBCU is equivalent to wanting interracial marriage. In my opinion, both are examples of racial prejudice. However, wanting interracial marriage to be illegal is more extreme form of racial prejudice.

You can say "we people" are ridiculous. I am certain that I speak for some other posters when I say in my opinion, you are being ridiculous and intellectually dishonest. However, calling each other ridiculous adds nothing to the debate.

Please  provide some non racist reasons for being "against" (your terminology) interracial marriages or "race mixing" ( I use that phrase to make it plain). No anologies please, just a non-racist reason(s).

You say we have know idea of what the definition of a racist is, but you have not provided one.

Heres a good starting place for you.

Racism is the belief that there are inherent differences in people's traits and capacities which are entirely due to their race, however defined, and which consequently justify those people being treated differently, both socially and legally. Alternatively, racism is the practice of certain group/s of people being treated differently, which is then justified by recourse to racial sterotyping or pseudo-science.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Racism.

(I didn't see anything about "hate" in that definition)

Maybe your own personal definition of racism would shed some light as to how you can reach the remarkable conclusion that thinking interracial marriage should be illegal  is not a racist attitude/opinion/viewpoint/belief.

Again, fear of miscegnation was often the misguided justification for the enactment of Jim Crow laws and the lynching of Black men.  You good and well know this.

BINGO KEN!!!

Miscegenation was the greatest fear of the former leaders that clothed themselves in the peculiar institution of "Chattel Slavery"...

Fear of elimination of a pure aryan race???  Well, DNA says that Albinism is as real as the origins of all humans having their roots in Mother Africa...  Anthropology, Archaeology and now DNA confirms all of this...  So let the ignorant continue to fear the "genetic annihilation", the truth is they are from the same original Admixture as we are - a pure unadulterate human more than likely does not exist on Earth at this present time...

Contrary to popular belief,  "Ignorance is NOT Bliss"...  Frances Cress Welsing is a magnificent thinker, writer and presenter - her powerful work has brought a lot of clarity AS to why the Earths true Minorities, fear the HUED of the HueMan Race... ;)

EXCELLENT BREAKDOWN, Wildman!!!

y04 was perfectly happy (in the other thread) NOT to take exception to highlander's assessment that the poll showed racism WHEN y04 THOUGHT THAT DEMS WOULD BE WORSE on this indicator.

It was only when the poll results showed that his darling fellow Repubs in Mississippi were THREE TIMES MORE RACIST THAN DEMS in MS that he decided it wasn't racist after all.

Simple as that.  Rationalization and streeeeeeeetches followed.
PI-TI-FUL!!!!!

Wildman, great job of staying on point and on topic and staying focused on what racism means.  Which, by the way, is what drove highlander into saying that he "know it when I see it" because, in that case, what he was describing was NOT racism and he couldn't justify it with a definition.

My point in asking highlander was that most likely even he would recognize this as a case of racism.  If not, then he would be like "y4 people."

Secondly, it is a minor point but isn't it interesting that those Conservative Repubs in Miss, who want - supposedly - to keep or get govt out of people's lives IN THIS CASE want the govt to step in between the ultimately personal decision of a man & a woman, who wish to marry!!!  That is the ultimate govt intrusion.  When people violate their own principles it is often for irrational reasons.  This is a good case study.

Finally, I can't wait for y04's "answer" to your request for other reasons to oppose interracial marriage.

Obama is "right-on."  We prayed for him tonight at church.  I am very proud of him.

Is your church going to pray for John McCain as well?  Or is your church so stupid and racist they only pray for the Black guy?  What is the name and address of your church?  Your pastor's name?  If I am ever in your area on a Sunday morning I will know where not to worship.  I elect to worship at churches that espouse the word of GOD.  Not some ignorant racist dogma like your church..............................

It appears that y04815 has a very fluid definition of racism or maybe y04185's definition has evolved.

According to y04185, praying for Obama while not praying for Bush is racist but believing that interracial marriage should be illegal is not racist.

Bison66, it is worth noting that Oldsport has not posted in this thread.

I would like to know if Oldsport thinks it is racist to believe that interracial marriage should be illegal.

y04185, can you give us a non-racist reason as to why someone would oppose interracial marriage.

In the alternative, can you provide us with a definition of racism which would support your assertion that being against interracial marriage is not an example of racism.

Please no more hate analogies. We are talking about racism not hate.

Wildman, I have given you reasons.  You have failed to acknowledge them.  You have failed to give any reason to support your opinion.

A racist is someone who thinks his race is superior and has the right to rule others.  Also, hatred or intolerance for another race.  Nowhere does wanting interracial marriage to be illegal show that.  Show me the question in the survey that asks if they are superior or hate another race.  The parent that says my money is going to a certain HBCU has definitely shown intolerance, hatred, superiority of one school over another.

If you didn't marry a white woman you have demonstrated you are a racist by saying a Black woman is superior over a white woman.  Nevermind.  Black women are superior.  In a non racist way.

 Got all tripped up in your on explanation, huh. Your comments are internally inconsistent.  However, I won't get into that.

A belief that interracial marriage should be illegal  is equvialent to a belief in racial superiorty. The person who believes interracial marriage should be illegal believes one race is too good for the other, that it is important to keep their race from being polluted by other races. Accordingly, there need not be any followup question about superiority. Everybody on the site appears to understand this but you.

Moreover, no matter how you try to slice it or rationalize it, a person who believes interracial marriage should be illegal thinks that there should be a law which denies someone the fundamental right to marry the person of their choosing solely because that person is not of the same race.  How can that be anything but racism?

As additional support for my position,  I reminded you that fear of misegnation was  often the misguided justification for the enactment of Jim Crow laws and the lynching of Black men.  I have also challenge you to provide a non-racist reason as to why anyone would want interracial marriage to be illegal.

y04185, you have not given a non-racist reason as to why anyone would want interracial marriage to be illegal.  It is just patently false to insist that you have.

You  gave  us analogies about abortions, cigarettes, and Black parents not sending their kids to predominantly White Schools.  But, you never gave any  reason as to why anyone would want interracial marriages to be illegal.

Please give us one reason as to why someone would want interracial marriage to be illegal.

There is simply no non-racist reason for wanting interracial marriage to be illegal y04185.  The obvious reason for that view is that these people don't believe the races should mix. That is the very essence of racism and you know it.

Here is more support for my position. In 1967, the Supreme Court struck down a Virginia statute which made it illegal for interracial couples to marry. Here is part of what the Court said:

There can be no question but that Virginia's miscegenation statutes rest solely upon distinctions drawn according to race. The statutes proscribe generally accepted conduct if engaged in by members of different races. Over the years, this Court has consistently repudiated "[d]istinctions between citizens solely because of their ancestry" as being "odious to a free people whose institutions are founded upon the doctrine of equality." Hirabayashi v. United States, 320 U.S. 81, 100 (1943). At the very least, the Equal Protection Clause demands that racial classifications, especially suspect in criminal statutes, be subjected to the "most rigid scrutiny," Korematsu v. United States, 323 U.S. 214, 216 (1944), and, if they are ever to be upheld, they must be shown to be necessary to the accomplishment of some permissible state objective, independent of the racial discrimination which it was the object of the Fourteenth Amendment to eliminate. Indeed, two members of this Court have already stated that they
cannot conceive of a valid legislative purpose . . . which makes the color of a person's skin the test of whether his conduct is a criminal offense.  There is patently no legitimate overriding purpose independent of invidious racial discrimination which justifies this classification.

http://www.law.cornell.edu/supct/html/historics/USSC_CR_0388_0001_ZO.html

Hopefully, you understand what "racial discrimination" is so I'll give you a definition of "invidious."

in·vid·i·ous adj \in-ˈvi-dē-əs\
Definition of INVIDIOUS
1: tending to cause discontent, animosity, or envy <the invidious task of arbitration>
2: envious
3a : of an unpleasant or objectionable nature : obnoxious <invidious remarks> b : of a kind to cause harm or resentment <an invidious comparison>

http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/invidious

I say that invidious racial discrimination is a form of racism. I'm guessing a whole lot of people would say invidious racial discrimination and  racism are the same thing. Apparently you wouldn't.

Again, you can say that it is racist to pray for president Obama without having prayed for Bush, but it is not racist to want interracial marriage to be agains the law.

Unbelievable.

The fact is, we are all part of a bigoted society that was built on racism, classism, sexism, and alot of other -isms. Because of the separations in society, many of us have built our beliefs on fallacies that generally have no explanation. You could ask alot of people why they don't like interracial relationships and some will be able to answer but the answer probably won't be exceptionally rational.

If there was no interracial coupling going on, I frankly wouldn't be here b/c my paternal great great granddaddy had blone hair and blue eyes. however, I do agree with most posters that there is a difference between not liking interracial marriage and wanting it to be illegal.

I think you and I are basically on the same page but would you please indulge me.

Bearforlife, do you think it racist to want interracial marriages to be illegal?

If not, can you think of a non-racist reason as to why interracial marriages should be illegal.

I cannot.

Bearforlife, you agree that there is a difference between not liking interracial marriage and wanting interracial marriage to be illegal. Would you say the difference is the former position is less racist than the latter position.

As I tried to explain earlier in the thread:

Everybody is a racist to a certain extent.  Some racism is subtle and slightly harmful. Some racism is overt and very harmful . Saying that interracial marriage shoud be illegal is closer to the latter. A Black parent telling their child must go to an HBCU closer to the former.

Isn't it kind of interesting that Oldsport has stayed away from this thread, and Uchighlander said it was racist right off the bat.

y04185, can you give us a non-racist reason as to why someone would oppose interracial marriage.

Great question, although I fear it won't get answered in this thread.

People want cigarettes to be illegal because of their harmful effects not only on those who smoke them, but for those who are exposed to cigarettes second hand.  While one might hate cigarettes, most reasonable people don't hate cigarette smokers...just the act of smoking.

People want abortions to be illegal because they feel that a fetus is a human being that deserves a chance to grow and live out God's purpose for their life.  People can dislike the procedure, not necessarily those who have had abortions.

People might not agree with gay marriage, but most reasonable people don't think one should go to jail for it.

Now what logical non-racist reason would somebody want to outlaw the marriage of a male and a female due to color?  What are the reasons behind it?  Is it religious?  Social pressure?  What?

Because with interracial marriage you will produce a predominately black offspring, which if continues for generations will dilute the white race.  Frances Welsing calls it the fear of "genetic annihilation".  Remember Medlel's Law of Genetics--when you mate the black rooster with the white hen--you get three black chickens for every white chicken.

Frances Cress Welsing is a magnificent thinker, writer and presenter - her powerful work has brought a lot of clarity AS to why the Earths true Minorities, fear the HUED of the HueMan Race... ;)

Thank you for using DNA to prove that there is only one race......... the human race.

I concur with that thought process and the science behind it all Cats4ever... ;)

Iceman, I agree that differences in skin tone among human beings are biologically insignificant. However,  I believe this discussion concerns the social significance, albeit without any biological justification, that humans attribute to differences in skin tone.

Please indulge me.

Do you think it is racist to believe that interracial marriages should be illegal?

Can you think of any non-racist reason(s) for making interracial marriages illegal.

I think Valley Girl may have misconstrued y04185 abortion analogy.

I know it's still nonsensical on multiple levels. However, we should still accurately state his position.

I'll give it a shot...

Do you think it is racist to believe that interracial marriages should be illegal?

Yes. Why? Because in all of the arguments I've seen, I've seen not one compelling reason stated to lead me to believe otherwise.

Can you think of any non-racist reason(s) for making interracial marriages illegal.

On its face no. But there can be an argument, albeit weak in its foundation, that can be floated that children of an interracial marriage may be subject to a lifetime of being scrutinized, ridiculed, prodded, picked on, etc. because of their mixed racial status. However, this argument would be quickly quashed.

But when you say that you fear that the offspring of interracial marriages would be subject to a lifetime of being scrutinized, ridiculed, prodded, picked on because of their mixed raced status, aren't you saying you oppose interracial marriage because of the racism  the children may suffer at the hands of society. If that is the case, racism, albeit societal racism would be still be the fundamental reason for wanting interracial marriage to be illegal.

Well let me rephrase my response then.

Those that think abortion should be illegal don't hate babies, they dislike the procedure. Whether it be those that get abortions or the babies themselves, the fact is that the assertion put forth with the y's abortion analogy is incorrect.  People might hate the procedure, but not the one getting the procedure and DEFINITELY not the baby.   It doesn't make any sense to think that hating the baby would be our thought process based on the comments made prior to that post.

Of course that makes absolutely no sense to me.

soflorattler, when I said "you" I did not mean it in  the literal sense but the generic sense as in "any person."

Bison66, I would be interested to see y04185 paste what he considers to be the answer to my question.

As I stated before it seems like y04185's definition of racism has evolved. Back in August of last year, y04185 said Harry Reid was a racist just  for saying he didn't know "how anyone of Hispanic heritage could be a Republican."

http://onnidan1.com/forum/index.php/topic,42302.0.html

Also, I wonder exactly what y04185 meant in the other thread when he said if they polled the democrats the number would be higher.  y04185 said that immediately after Uchighlander that this was racism plain and simple and wondered how come only Republicans were polled.

No, I get that.....

I'm simply saying that it is wrong on more than one level. He is saying the our thought process is flawed and likened to:

If you want abortion to be illegal = hate babies

If you want  Interracial marriage to be illegal= hate people married outside of their race.

I'm saying that the analogy is incorrect from the start.

IF our logic was what he claimed, then it would really be

If you want abortion to be illegal = hate those who get abortions

Illegal interracial marriage = hate people who marry outside of their race.

And that is incorrect too, because that is NOT our thought process.

The baby or lack thereof would be a byproduct just like marriage...

But I digress...Can't compare apples and oranges anyway..

See y'all. Y's position on  interracial marriage has changed in 2 and a half years. Back in 2011 he didn't thik it was racist to be against interracial marriage.

White people come from black so there is no such thing as interracial.

I will let you guys draw your own conclusions from 2 kings 5:26-27,

But Elisha asked him, "Don't you realize that I was there in spirit when Naaman stepped down from his chariot to meet you? Is this the time to receive money and clothing, olive groves and vineyards, sheep and cattle, and male and female servants?
Because you have done this, you and your descendants will suffer from Naaman's leprosy forever." When Gehazi left the room, he was covered with leprosy; his skin was white as snow.

I know in many cases Ethiopian women are not allowed to marry out but that is almost always based on cultural reasons.

White Southerners and Black southerners have the exact same culture. There is literally no reason for this to ever be an issue.

Then, in a continuation of his "courting" of Neymar (Neymar, you DO realize what he's been trying to do, don't you?), y04 runs down a whole bunch of gobbledygook with NO substance, pure deflection and NO relevance to the actual issue at hand:  whether support for legal barriers to inter-racial marriage (not folks's preferences for themselves or even their children) is racist.

It is truly sad.
But y04 REFUSES to be taken seriously, so that's what you get.

Look y04185, the more you call me a lie.   The longer this thread is going to remain on front street.

In this thread, you repeatedly and vehemently argued that wanting to be against interracial marriage was not raciist.

I point blank asked you to give a non-racist reason why someone would want interracial marriage to be illegal and you talked about abortion and HBCUs.

Simple questions, Are you now saying what you couldn't bring yourself to say in 2011, that if you want interracial marriage to be illegal, then you are a racist?

What exactly is the reason anyone could have for not wanting to allow interracial marriage?

Racism, plain and simple.

However, y04185 would not say that in 2011. Read the entire thread Neymar.  y04185 could not bring himself to say that the Mississippi Republicans who thought interracial marriage should be illegal were racist.

Ask him now does he think the Mississippi Republicans who thought interracial are racist.

It appears he still can't bring himself to say those Mississippi Republicans are racist.

However, just  couple of days ago, y04185 says this:

To be against interracial marriage is racist.

Of course  y014185 says that when the topic is about liberals giving someone a hard time about their interracial marriage.

Wow, it's funny how back in 2011, you had nothing to say in this thread Oldsport.

Just a reminder:

When this poll on Miss. Repubs was first posted, uchi said it was RACIST to favor laws against inter-racial marriage.

I asked him because he had told us that he knew "racism when he saw it."

I guess uchi is enjoying retirement.  We haven't heard from him since then.

It was ONLY after Wildman slammed y04 with the data on Dems in Miss., that y04 started to defend the Repubs.

Note that y04's first response was that the numbers for Dems would be higher AND he did NOT take exception to uchi's conclusion that is was racism.

And, Oldspport, while you are running away from Wildman's question, also run away from the poll resutls showing that Miss Repubs are several times more racist (by the measure that y04 has now admitted denotes racism) than Miss Dems.

That poll data ABSOLUTELY CONTRADICTS your unsupported assertion that the "racists stayed in the Demo-Crap party."

Okay Oldsport, so you applaud y04185's defense of Mississippi Republicans who think interracial marriage should be illegal.  Apparently,  according to y04185 and your applause, wanting interracial marriage to be illegal is insufficient proof to conclude that someone is a racist.

But, you seem to have a different view when it was Jill Scott and Common who expressed negative views about interracial marriage.

I understand Common as well Jill Scott's objections to interracial marriage has something to do with the craziness of maintaining racial purity which is complete stupidity. Interracial purity is a non-starter in American and as a concept or philosophy is as racist as any pronouncement or reasoning by the Klan.

Oldsport, what changed?

I get it.  Black entertainers who oppose interracial marriage are adopting a racist concept or philsophy.

But Mississippi Republicans who want interracial marriage to be illegal might not be racists. It's illgoical to say they are racist because some Black people also oppose interracial marriage.

Yeah, that makes a whole lotta dayum sense.

To most folk, those polls tend to show that Mississippi Republicans are more likely to be racist than Mississippi Democrats.

Of course, y04185 could not let that stand so he starts babbling straight up nonsense:

Ooooops!!!   y04 has answered the question already.

Sorry....

Wildman, what is 'Missippi '?

Ken, I have never been against interracial marriage.  To be against interracial marriage is racist.

y04's problem, AS WILDMAN HAS REPEATEDLY POINTED OUT, is that he cannot reconcile his more recent statement with his previous statement when he WAS DEFENDING RACISTS - by his own assertion - in the Mississippi Repub Party:

Where is your proof that those Republicans are racist?........

He provided the proof himself.  He just can't acknowledge that it applies to his own Party members.

For those who have not followed this particular convo:  What makes it worse is that the MS Repubs were not just against inter-racial marriage - THEY WANTED TO OUTLAW IT.

For those who are just entering the theater and may have missed the first part of THIS movie, this is how it all started back some time ago as it was summarized:

Trust me, highlander, I had not a single iota of surprise reading the results of the poll.

Given that many people will not admit that they harbor racist or anachronistic beliefs, IMO the ACTUAL percentage is much higher.

I am also not surprised that y04 would be so intellectually dishonest as to present two different positions (one by implication) in two different threads.  For those who did not see it, here is the other thread:  http://onnidan1.com/forum/index.php/topic,51223.0.html

I agree with highlander's assessment of the differences we might expect in other regions of the country.  Based on that, what then is your take on the implications for the Repubs of the party's "Southern Strategy"?

One can surmise that y04's expectation that Dems in Miss would support such a racist and 1860's type law to a greater extent than Repubs is based on the image of Dems from 45 years ago.  Yet another example of him being stuck in time when it comes to dealing with the REALITIES of the political parties as WE FIND THEM TODAY.  It borders on the delusional.

Quote from Bison66

The rest of my statement simply builds on that and is completely logical.  I simply pointed out that Mississippi Repubs, YOUR Party members, were much more likely – using YOUR OWN assertion – to be racists than Dems in Mississippi.  If you, as usual, cannot follow the logic, please consult with a 7th grader to explain it to you.

So, to review Syllogisms from Logic 101, which it is obvious y04 flunked:

Syllogism:  In logic, a form of deductive reasoning consisting of a major premise, a minor premise, and a conclusion.

1)  A equals B
and
2)  B equals C,
therefore
3)  A equals C.

AND
1)Mississippi Republicans are 3 times more likely than Dems in that state to want inter-racial marriage to be outlawed
and
2) It is racist to oppose (let alone want to outlaw) inter-racial marriage, according to y04,
Therefore
3)MS Repubs are three times more likely than Dems in that state to be racist.

Logic therefore informs us that y04 is saying that MS Repubs are three times more likely than Dems in that state to be racist.

Wildman, what is 'Missippi '?

Ken, I have never been against interracial marriage.  To be against interracial marriage is racist.

THANKS, y04, for answering the question!!!

MISSISSIPPI REPUBLICANS, based on your statement, and the poll conducted, ARE THREE TIMES MORE LIKELY TO BE RACIST than Miss. Democrats.

WE REALLY APPRECIATE YOU CLEARING THAT UP FOR ALL OF US!!
