Title: my governor and 32 others ask feds to lift excessive constraints on health care
Post by: y04185 on January 07, 2011, 11:48:23 AM
the feds are killing the state governments.  for some reason obama could care less.  he is only concerned with his agenda and doesn't care who gets hurt along the way.

now  33 governors and governor elects have sent a letter to washington explaining how the healthcare act is hurting their states.

read letter and the facts here (http://www.governor.virginia.gov/news/docs/Healthcare_Letter-010711.pdf)

It will be interesting to see if he will grant them waivers like he has done over 200 corporations for Obama care.

Without Obamacare the deficit will rise an extra $230 billion dollars.

Let is rise. We can take the short term hit.

We can't afford to take a slap let alone a hit.  Medical costs will only go up with increasing premiums by insurance companies due to increase utilization for "tests" by their subscribers and increase use of city hospitals by the poor  because they have no insurance.

Not a bright statement, especially coming from a conservative leaning supposedly educated person...

Well it would INITIALLLY rise to $230 billion , eventually it would reach $1 trillion dollars.

Also Medicare part D cost SEVEN times what Obamacare is, and no one was complaining about that.

Repealing health-care reform would cost $230 billion over 10 years -- and more after that

By Ezra Klein
The Congressional Budget Office took a look at the Republican repeal bill and came back with some numbers (pdf) the GOP isn't going to like. Jon Cohn summarizes:

The news from the CBO is exactly what you would have thought: Getting rid of the Affordable Care Act will mean higher deficits. The CBO is projecting that repeal would increase the federal deficit by around $230 billion in the next decade and by an even larger amount after that.

It would.  But I guess we can afford another trillion dollar deficit--just say over and over again "waste , fraud and abuse" and all of our problems will be solved.

why aren't you people discussing the letter.  people will get less healthcare because the states are not being funded by the federal mandates.

What I got from the letter was that States  might have to cut other programs in order meet federal medicaid requirements.

Quote
The effect of the federal requirements is unconscionable; the federal
requirements force Governors to cut other critical state programs, such as education, in order to fund a „one-size-fits-all‟ approach to Medicaid

Interesting that only the Republican Governors signed the letter.

Excerpt from Wall Street Journal article on same topic:

Supporters of the current rule said states shouldn't be allowed to chop millions of poor people from the rolls when the weak economy makes Medicaid coverage critical. They also fear that loosening the rule could undercut the health overhaul, which is designed to expand Medicaid to an additional 16 million Americans starting in 2014
