Title: Tuskegee alumni helping improve athletic facilities with gift
Post by: klg14 on August 08, 2022, 05:26:52 PM
Tuskegee University got a solid gift from its Alumni Housing Foundation to help improve its athletic facilities.

I don't see the big rush for lights. All they do is shoot cost of operating up anyway. It's the reason we changed our games start times.

Have to agree with Que. At some point Tuskegee must install lights to stay in competition. It is entirely too HOT in Tuskegee, Alabama to start a game at 1:00pm in September and early October.

I hear ya, but it probably isn't on the priority list because it's not like the fans aren't accustomed to it. Alcorn did it for decades too. I don't think they added lights until the 90s.

^^^^Exactly. I'm sure funding is a big issue.

Just how expensive would it be to install lights at TU? I went to a TU-Albany State game there with a 1PM start time in early September, and I swear it was hotter than AFRICA out there!

Hey man, it's the deep south. The real deep south, we're accustom to it. Seriously though the expense comes in the operational cost. Marino "The Godfather" Casem once told me it cost Southern $250k just to turn the lights on.

What about solar energy to defray costs?

Maybe a good point Que...but my knowledge is limited when it come to operational aspects of solar energy.

Just because the backward peckerwoods don't use it is no excuse for educated black people not to.  There are grants and no interest loans for the installation of this technology. Could save the university thousands per year. Not sure why all HBCU's including AAMU have not latched on to this.

Well that might be a very good idea. Driving down I-75 in GA to Orlando is loaded down with solar windows. I'm positive TU could harness and save some of that Bama sun into night lights. It's would DEFINITELY be a lot cooler, JEEZ!  :o :o :o

Remember, TU is operating in the third world (Alabama), the state passed laws to make it expensive to hook it to the power grid.   They should reach out to Telsa to work with them on battery storage so they don't have to connect to Alabama Power.
