I hope that now you understand my concern and why I raised the alarm. Howard U. is not my alma mater, but it is a sister HBCU. I advocate for its survival as much as I advocate for our own alma mater's survival.
My concern is that the institutional governance will morph into a dictatorial style leadership where the leadership (university president) has first, last, and every word of how the university is run. No man is an island. The old saying- A rising tide lifts ALL boats. Frederick should be that tide as opposed to being a ripple in the middle of a lake.

A lot of Alumni need to grow up and leave the nest when they finish.

It was always so weird being at Morehouse and seeing dudes who graduated decades ago still running around campus trying to run things. I mean.....get a life people.

What I look like running behind some kid born after 9/11 on campus when I was born in the 80s?

B66&soflo^^^what do you bruthas think the current chair of the Howard BOT is alluding to when he says the current governance system is “not working”?

WHAT, specifically, is not working?

In most cases there is a student on the BOT.  Usually the Student Body President.

Some of you remember that I served as an Alumni Trustee from 2014-2017.  After securing more votes from Alumni (one of the other candidates was Debbie Allen), I was "elected" by the Board.

From my experience and my other organizational involvements over decades, I conclude that the PRIMARY reason is to consolidate power and stifle dissent.

Neither of those "goals" is good for the University.

Part of what is "not working" is that Student and Alumni Trustees tend to be independent of mind and not cut from the same "corporate" cloth as many/most Trustees.

Quote
“Faculty, alumni, and again, especially students, deserve to be able to chart the future of our institution in a manner that is collaborative and that centers us all, not just a handful of board members,” wrote HU’s Young Democratic Socialists of America Afro-Socialists in a petition that has received 350 signatures asking the Board to reverse its decision.

Neymar, what about this sounds like 'running behind students?'

???? Am I the only one on here remember neymar saying he, as a 30+ year old, was dating a 19-year-old girl? That would be after 9/11, wouldn't it?

If Bison 66 is concerned, then we should all be. It is not the recent hiring of artist, authors, and actress like Phylicia Rashad, Nikole Hanna-Jones and Ta-Nehisi Coats that makes Howard outstanding. It is having a law school, a medical school, a school of engineering, a dental school and I could go on and on. None of us can come close to this. I have never heard of students and alumni not being on boards of trustees.

Yep…….concur in what you state here.

I also found B66’s response to me concerning^^^. And the reasons you cite for Howard being “outstanding” are the very same ones I have in mind when I contend they are the leading HBCU in the country. I DO reserve the right, however, to STILL occasionally refer to them as Gen. Howard’s farm school.    ;D

But, seriously, there is enough black greatness to spread among ALL of our HBCU’s……….including A&T.   ::)

I really don't see how that makes a whole hell of a lot of difference.     However, you'd probably have a better chance of hooking up on your old campus than you do now. :tiptoe:
