Would the A-Sun have to give up the automatic playoff bid?

EP, just guessing, but I would think that it would be more in the form of a bowl game. And it could be a game that is scheduled early in the season as not to conflict with the playoff schedule. There's suppose to be an announcement coming Feb. 23rd, so we'll know then what their plan is.

I've seen the idea of A-SUN floating the concept of an Atlanta Football Classic, which to me is a slap in the face. You're not going to the high attendance by an A-SUN team. Trust me. As a school that plays against Gulf South schools, it's all about playoff positioning for us. Attendance be damned.

that's all...    :tiptoe:

I blame the 100 Black Men of Atlanta for throwing the Classic away in the first place.

NO. This is a regular season game. Just an inter conference classic.

Thanks!  I don't know why I was thinking Bowl Game instead of Classic.

Good. I'm glad that the 100 BM are not involved anymore. They exploited the participating institutions long enough. It was criminal that they were making millions from this event while only giving school a paltry pittance for showing up, then them having to pay their own expenses. FAMU lost money every year they appeared in that game.

soflorattler, I totally get that.  But when SU and SC State replaced FAMU, TSU in the Atlanta Classic...and a few years later TSU returned and then FAMU returned, were the negotiations better? OR the same? I would ASSume better or FAMU/TSU wouldn't have returned.

PLUS FAMU, TSU yall still came to the ATL without the 100 BM, ie, the Super ShowDown Classic [same wknd as the SU/SC State game].

I was really hoping this matchup would again return regardless of who it was associated with, 100 BM clearly wasn't needed.

I would have been just fine with the JayThomas Football Classic  featuring the Tigers and the Rattlers.

JT, the contests I never had an issue with. It was the payouts. Also, the 100BM had the venue locked up so that there would be no HBCU classic allowed to play there without them being involved. So, there was no work-a-round to hold this event there unless we scheduled Georgia St. and played at their venue.

Rattler Nation leadership was going up there all of those years for the recruiting and party aspect of the event despite losing money every year. A group of us alumni began to get vocal about it. We hated not at least coming home with SOME money for scholarships.

Back when Billy Joe was coaching, the payout was a flat $200k. That had to pay for the band, administration, football team and coaches plus transportation, meals and accommodations for 3 nights. Back then, just the band was pushing upwards to 400. We lost money every year on this game.

Sounds like a home and home series woulda been more profitable.

Speak Bro!

When I saw what the payout was then saw them awarding scholarships to black kids to attend pwcs, I was done with it.

And like JT said, who needs the BMA for a ATL Classic featuring HBCUs?
