The two schools won't play each other this weekend, but will battle it out in a fund-raiser....

I agree. However, I don't think the fans will know its even happening so the participation might be low. I also read that we have games with them in both 2021 and 2022. This could be something really good for both schools if we started to regularly play again. I'm willing to go to Durham every year in football. The games should be at Durham County Stadium... make it the Bull City Classic. However, in basketball we need to do a home and home with them. Both gyms are off the chains when we play each other.

Why would we play football at the county stadium and ours is available?

Does the county stadium hold a larger capacity than the NCCU stadium? I've been to both stadiums, but I honestly can't remember. But I can understand NCCU wanting to play the game at home because they can control the parking and concessions, in addition to the ticket prices.

Durham County Stadium holds 8,500 while NCCU can hold 10,000-around 15,00 (Track). Why in the world would we rent a stadium when we own one?

My bad. Didn't mean to start a controversy. I was thinking the Durham County stadium was larger. I also thought that having the games off campus would add to creating a classic feeling. But NCCU facilities are fine with me, especially with just a two game series. Anything longer than two games would need to played at a natural site. Rams are not going to come to your campus every year for ever. And I do understand the Division thang. So a two game series on you campus every few years would work for me. You guys are paying us a fair price so I don't see any issues with us playing and you being the hosts.

Not making excuses, but somebody gave Winston $10,000. Also, Central is in a fund raising for Homecoming and still came up with $24,000+. I heard money is still coming in. This was great and I hope giving will continue at both schools.

:lmao: How many schools pick a non conference team in a fund raising effort.? Are they your yardstick? We are what we strive to be. Lately

I know... right!

Awesome job by both schools. I wish we could do more of this across the board. Fundraising idea was solid.

Norfolk State and VSU have done it, and have been very successful. First year of their competition Norfolk State raised over $300K.

For our Homecoming fundraising, we are approaching $100,000. Everyone, feel free to donate to NCCU atletics.

This is a good idea for any big game thats not being played because of the virus... regardless of the divisions. Its about what the fans what to see and not about what division they play in. I'm sure the WSSU game would be the third most wanted game on NCCU's schedule, just below A&T and homecoming. There is not a school in the MEAC the Central fans want to see more than WSSU. Like wise with WSSU.

Unfortunately, we never win these fund raising contests. My fellow alums I guess just aren’t the giving kind.

I'd argue that NCCU alums already give throughout the year and aren't motivated by these 'contests.'
During the same week as the one-night WSSU stand; alums have been bombarded with Every Eagle Every Year campaign mailers and the Virtual Homecoming texts and videos.
We didn't defeat WSSU; but we're still both winners though.

What in the world does conference affiliation have to do with fundraising, especially amongst HBCUs in the same state. Good Lord, congrats on being D1 but some folks are brand new out here.

Yes, you’re right. You would think however that people asking for $$$ would be aware of ‘giving overload’. It’s tiring.
