Alex Acosta defends handling of 2008 Epstein plea deal

This is horrible, those poor women were treated horribly. I understand that agent orange does not have an issue treating women this way, but for the judicial system to do it is a disgrace!

Now to lie about it like agent orange, SHAME!  SHAME!   SHAME!

https://www.cnn.com/2019/07/09/politics/acosta-defends-epstein-deal/index.html

(CNN)Labor Secretary Alex Acosta, who as US Attorney in Miami oversaw a 2008 plea deal with Jeffrey Epstein, defended on Tuesday his handling of the case and tweeted he is pleased "prosecutors are moving forward."

"The crimes committed by Epstein are horrific, and I am pleased that NY prosecutors are moving forward with a case based on new evidence," Acosta wrote in a series of tweets on Tuesday. "With the evidence available more than a decade ago, federal prosecutors insisted that Epstein go to jail, register as a sex offender and put the world on notice that he was a sexual predator."

In his latest tweet in the series, Acosta wrote, "Now that new evidence and additional testimony is available, the NY prosecution offers an important opportunity to more fully bring him to justice."

Federal prosecutors in New York unsealed a criminal indictment on Monday charging Epstein with having allegedly operated a sex trafficking ring in which he sexually abused dozens of underage girls. Acosta's handling of the 2008 plea deal has come under intense scrutiny in recent months after a Miami Herald investigation. The non-prosecution deal with federal prosecutors allowed the hedge fund manager to plead guilty to two state prostitution charges and serve just 13 months in prison.

YOU GD IDIOTS.

It's sad that you constantly resort to insults, profanity and name calling. Don't you purpor to be a Christian

However, Acosta's spin about how if it wasn't for him, Epstein would have spent no time in jail is at best misleading, and at worst, a bald faced lie. The plea agreement reached with the Palm Beach State Attorney, Barry Krischer, was shameful. However, there was absolutley no legal reason for Acosta not to move forward with the 53 page indictment that the U.S. Attorney Office for the Southern District of Florida already prepared against Epstein. He simply shirked his responsibility.

Acosta had drawn up a 53-page indictment but, after meeting with one of Epstein’s attorneys in 2007, agreed to close the case without federal charges in exchange for a guilty plea to state prostitution charges that required the wealthy businessman to register as a sex offender and pay damages to 40 victims. The agreement included immunity for potential co-conspirators, and Epstein was allowed to leave the jail six days a week to go to his office.

Acosta decision to forego federal charges in lieu of State prosecution was shameful and a derelection of duty.

There is at least 50-50 chance he will resign.

GO ASK THE PALM BEACH DISTRICT ATTORNEY... YOU GD FOOL.

Again, with the unnecessary and childish name calling. Don't you claim to be a Christian.

The Plam Beach State Attorney did speak on this. He basically said Acosta was full of crap.

Former Florida state attorney pushes back against Acosta account of Epstein case

Barry Krischer, the Palm Beach County state's attorney at the time of the investigation, called Acosta's account, which alleged Krischer was prepared to let Epstein walk without serving jail time until Acosta's office stepped in, "completely wrong."

"Mr. Acosta's should not be allowed to rewrite history," Krischer said in a statement.

The Miami U.S. Attorney's Office had prepared a federal indictment against Epstein, but it was never filed. Acosta has also faced criticism for failing to disclose the plea deal to Epstein's victims, something he said would have jeopardized the agreement.

Krischer downplayed his office's role in the eventual plea deal, and alleged the U.S. attorney's office abandoned its federal indictment after "secret negotiations between Mr. Epstein's lawyers and Mr. Acosta."

This is in my wheelhouse Oldsport. I work with U.S. Attorneys everyday. What Acosta did was shameful.

Yeah, I practice in the Southern District of Florida. The word is that Acosta basically through the line prosecutor under the bus and has all but ruined her career.

Prosecutors violated Victims Rights Act in deal for Florida financier

NEW YORK (Reuters) - A 2007 agreement by U.S. federal prosecutors not to charge Florida financier Jeffrey Epstein with sex trafficking of minors violated the legal rights of Epstein’s alleged victims by keeping them in the dark, a federal judge ruled on Thursday.

U.S. District Judge Kenneth Marra in West Palm Beach, Florida, ruled the prosecutors violated the federal Crime Victims’ Rights Act by not letting more than 30 identified victims know of the deal so they would have a chance to oppose it.

Under his deal, Epstein pleaded guilty to a lesser Florida state felony prostitution charge and served 13 months in prison. He was also required to register as a sex offender.

The ruling came in a civil lawsuit filed by two of the alleged victims against the government in 2008 to challenge the non-prosecution agreement.

Alex Acosta, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Florida in 2007 and now U.S. Secretary of Labor in the Trump administration, was among the prosecutors who made the agreement.

About 10 years ago, I represented a client that was seducing young teenage boys. He befriend, take them on camping trips, and outings. He groomed them for sexual activity, he was sentenced to 30 years in prioson on a guilty plea.

About 5 years ago, I went to trial with a client that was youth minister that was accused of doing the same thing, he got life.

Acosta knows he's full of crap.

That has yet to be determined. However, it is clear that the abdicated his respoonsibility as United States Attorney when the Epstein matter was pending in the Southern District of Florida. There can be no denying that.  :nono2:

You can't deny that Acosta abdicated his duty as a U.S Attorney when he decided not to prosecute Epstein in the Southern District of Florida. As far whether he will resign, your guess is no better than mine. Your comment about Clinton is rank speculation.

Kathy Shelton.

Hillary Clinton was the defense attorney in that case. It was her job to defend the rapist. Indeed, it was her ethical obligation to defend the rapist to the best of her ability. Acosta was the prosecutor in the Epstein  case. It was not his job to defend the rapist, he was supposed to prosecute the rapist. Surely you can see the difference. Can't you?

Has anybody here criticized Epstein's attorneys for getting him a good deal. No.
