So far in 2017, special elections have largely gone Democrats’ way, but in each instance, these were state legislative races. The real test will come next month in a congressional special election in a Republican district in Georgia.

In theory, keeping the seat, which was held by Tom Price before he became HHS secretary, should be easy for Republicans, but as the Atlanta Journal Constitution reported yesterday, GOP officials appear to be quite concerned.
A Republican super PAC has unleashed a $1.1 million ad barrage against Jon Ossoff, a Democratic newcomer who is attracting national attention and a torrent of fundraising in his campaign to flip a conservative suburban Atlanta district.

The Congressional Leadership Fund, a super PAC backed by House GOP leaders, bought ad time running from Thursday to the April 18 special election to air a spot replete with clips of Ossoff, in a Star Wars costume, while a member of a Georgetown University singing group.

The Sixth Congressional District includes parts of Cobb and DeKalb Counties.  DeKalb is majority Black, and Cobb went democratic in the presidential race for the first time in 40 years.  It also includes parts of Fulton, where most of Atlanta is located.

Georgia should not be a red state or as red if democrats in the state had their act together, and yes, it will take a lot of work in campaigning.  The DCCC apparently was going to take a half-hearted attitude to the race.  The attitude of the DNC and their related groups can be pitiful.

I live in Tom Price's district, squarely in Downtown Roswell. No Democrat will take this seat. This District is GOP Country.

The vast majority of the district is the older White, Christian crowd who strongly supported Trump in November.

The Buckhead coalition and North Fulton (Roswell, Alphraretta, and Sandy Springs) will go heavily for the GOP candidate, but the republicans are losing their grip on that area.  Trump barely won the district and lost Cobb and Gwinnett Counties.  I would not be surprised if the republicans on the seat, but the democrats will have to have a spine and be willing to fight.  So far I have my doubts.
