Title: It's OFFICIAL: Kirby Smart is Coming Home
Post by: thatd@mnYOGI on December 01, 2015, 10:01:04 PM
I knew McGarity wasn't going to fire Richt, if he didn't already have a plan.

Congratulations to Smart; I still stand by my original statement that after his tenure at UGA...whether his contract is not renewed, or if he "steps down" I promise you the headline will read "Fired".

But who gives a d@mn?  I don't. Check that...as a journalist, I do give a damn.  I'm just disgusted with the Atlanta television media...giving the UGA AD a pass.

Oh well, on to more important things....Go Skegee!!!

Be careful what you ask for.  I do not consider this a step up from Richt.

I agree. Kirby has all of the makings of Will Muschamp @ Florida 2.0

Smart is nothing like Will. All Smart needs to do is hire a good OC. That was Will's downfall. If we get Tyson Helton from Western Kentucky, we're in business. He runs a pro-style offense which caters to the needs of our offensive recruits. Plus, he's good friends with Kirby when he coached at UAB.

that's all...

I was surprised and not surprised on this move... I knew Kirby was a UGA coach in waiting, but I figured that they would farm him out to another FCS school for some head coaching experience first and then bring him in. It feels kinda weird being that I have known Kirby since we were in elementary school together. He was Salutatorian of our high school graduating class.*  I really expected a seasoned HC, but we will see how this goes.

Rameses, I see this as a smooth over for the UGA fans in the state before they go into serious cardiac arrest. It's very divided right now. He is a Georgia boy through and through and he understands the importance of winning unlike Richt the past 9 years was given a pass because of first years success and allowed the program to decline. I know the recruits love it because some of them were courted by Bama. I just hope he handles the pressure being from the state and playing at UGA.

that's all...

Kirby Smart??
..........what don't you like about this hire, GK?

Something that gives THIS poster pause is that dude will be taking on his FIRST head football coaching job at one of the traditional powers in arguably the most powerful collegiate football conference in the country.  Like someone else mentioned on either THIS thread or another, what would have been ideal was if Smart had FIRST head coached at any number of 1-AA, Div. 2, or other football playing colleges in the state.

And what ALSO is troubling to me is that, given that lack of head coaching experience, dude is going back to his alma mater, his "dream" job as he puts it.  The pressure to do what YOGI and others have criticized Richt for NOT doing - getting to the SEC championship game and beyond - will be nothing short of ENORMOUS.  The suggestion that dude is just going to march into Athens and in short order establish primacy over the likes of FL, Tenn, SC, Mizzou and the like is a pipe dream.   Hell, given the RIGHT coach, dude would have trouble dealing with my Commodores.  And James Franklin during his tenure at Vandy established that to be a FACT!!!!

So WHAT Richt didn't get a national championship during his tenure?  The LAST NC the Bulldogs got was, what, 1982, during the Herschel Walker days?  And Richt averaged over 10 wins a year during his tenure, but THAT isn't good enough.

Lord, have mercy.  :(

I would not be surprised if Smart's tenure is not be what UGA fans anticipate.

This time next year....the question will be answered.

It will all come out of the wash, as my mother would say. I am just happy Richt is GONE! I was tired of watching him screw up games that we should have won. I had realized years ago that he wasn't going to take us to a national championship especially when he stopped having a hand in the offense this season. He should have taken over the play-calling because everybody knew Schotty was SHOT. He didn't have a clue to what to do with all of that talent. Even when Chubb went down,  you would think he would have gone to Keith. But, noooo, this idiot sticks in Brendan. I was like WTH? He should be starting with Sony. Just poor, poor coaching all the way around this season on offense.

that's all...

...........ok, Big YOGI^^^^.  Your post ought to be archived because you are likely gonna regret EVERY SINGLE WORD of what you just stated.  You wanted Richt gone, and now you have your wish.

That age-old maxim applies here:  Be careful what you wish for..................

You're a trip, YOGI.

Strike, at this point, I am willing to eat whatever type of bird you give me. Don't kill my Vibe.

TrueEagle, Richt didn't have any head coaching experience either. He was the OC for Bobby Bowden on their last championship. So, I am not worried about that. The other candidates I felt wasn't a fit. I definitely didn't want Dan Mullen. Lawd, knows I didn't.

that's all...

Either UGA fans will be content, or they'll be pissed like FL and UT - we shall see.

This the real reason Richt is GONE and I for am glad. They bought in Kirby to heal the divide.

More than a third of Richt’s win are from non-Power 5 schools. Since 2010, he is 5-15 against ranked opponents. For the past three seasons, in an SEC East Division that has been historically weak, the Bulldogs couldn’t pull away with it. His last SEC title was a decade ago.

With all of the five-star talent, top 10 recruiting classes and a plethora of resources and facilities that rival anyone else’s in the country, Georgia football has come up short year after year.

This season, the Dawg’s marquee win was a beat down at home against a 3-9 South Carolina team. They got embarrassed at home against Alabama. They lost to Tennessee with a massive lead. They couldn’t score a touchdown against Florida.

Yes, Georgia is 9-3, but it has been an ugly 9-3 season. These players have not been coached up to their potential. And that doesn’t just go for this year. It applies to every season for the past decade. Richt has coached the second highest amount of active players in the NFL. With all that talent, he wasn’t able to get as far as other teams with equal or less talent have gotten. I don’t know about you, but it makes me scratch my head.

BINGO, Rameses! People that don't follow or understand my Bulldogs over the Mark Richt era, that's it in a nutshell. Yes, he won a lot of games, but when you start throwing out the REAL numbers in the last ten years, they are atrocious. There is no excuse to why we shouldn't have been in the SEC Championship EVERY year. I grew up watching my Georgia Bulldogs from the horrible and incompetent Ray GOOF era, to that nut job of Jim Donnan, to Richt. Richt was the better of them by far, but you can't have that much talent year-in and year-out, the resources given to you to lose the games that matter. Then you lose to players that you kicked off the team or didn't recruit but had a chance to.

Like I stated before, as of RIGHT NOW, I am ECSTATIC that he's gone and whatever school he goes to, have it.

that's all...

.............so Coach Richt averages 10 wins a year over the course of his 15 years run in Athens.  But, you know what, its ALL smoke and mirrors.  And that's because when you break down the numbers, you discover, much to the chagrin of many Richt detractors, that dude is in fact a coaching BUM.  :(  At least that's the point of view coming from some "quarters" on this board.

Wow, how delightful and informative it is to peruse this board.  You learn something new every day............................................................................ ::)

Let us be honest, Mr. Davis dropped a TD that would have sealed it for UGA.  Now was that coaching, or the player failed to execute.

I am  :tongue2: of this class rankings.  Rankings never played a down of football.  Plus there are so kids out there they may not had the exposure to be ranked.  If ranking was the end all, then Brady and A. Brown would never have been all pros because both are 6th round picks.

To be expected. I was hoping for Western Kentucky's OC not Shane Beamer. Keep him in Blacksburg or wherever. I was never thrilled by VaTech's offense.

And Pruitt returns to Bama from UGA.

That was his end game from the rip. He's good at what he does though.   Fla State's defense was stellar under him reminiscent of the Mickey Andrews days.   If he can stay away from the co-eds he will be good - word on the street is that is what made his decision to go to Athens that much easier.

Basically Bama still comes out on top because they didn't really lose anything.  Pruitt is a nice guy and damn good DC.

High school coach to DC at BAMA in less than 4 years.  Impressive

True.  Just needed enough to say he had experience on the collegiate level - FSU with a Natl a championship and UGA on your resume isn't bad at all.

They say he is a good recruiter and he's from South GA if I'm not mistaken so he should be ok.

UGA should be able to have the pick of anyone they want in GA, but often times they let them get away to South Carolina, Alabama, and Florida.

If he gets the top GA recruits and poaches a few from FL, they should be fine. Hope he knows what the hell he is doing.  If he turns out like Derek Dooley or Will Muschamp, these people in GA are gonna have a conniption.

We will be fine. Eason is still committed to the G. So, we have a QB for 2016. The problem I have now is the coaches are exiting left and right at UGA right now. I am afraid to see them at the bowl game. The coaches have bailed on the players.

Pardon Yogi?

The coaches didn`t bail on the players. The school and "fans" bailed on the coaches. They don`t have jobs so why should they possibly miss out on getting another job to hang around for a month to coach in an insignifcant game?

I understand that GK, but they are under contract. We had to do what we had to do. Watching Mark Richt underachieve the past 9 years, it was time for him to go. The school has provided those coaches every resource to succeed, but epically failed at every moment. There wasn't a need to wait until after a bowl game. Now, there only 4 or 5 coaches with grad assistants coaching in this bowl game. At this point, I wish they would just forfeit the game and get ready for next season.

that's all...
