RIDGELAND, MS - The Jackson State softball team increased its winning streak to five games by beating Ole Miss 7-2 Tuesday evening at Freedom Ridge Park. With the win JSU improves to a 21-15 overall record.
In the game the Lady Tigers scored their seven runs on nine hits.
JSU pitcher Breea Jamerson (11-5) pitched seven innings for the complete game, her eighth of the season. She gave up only four hits and had two strikeouts. On the offensive end, Wendi Reed was a perfect 2-2 at the plate. She also had two hits and an RBI. Tayler Nave also had two hits, a run and three RBI. Sabeana Romero recorded two hits and two RBI.
Jackson State put the first run of the game on the scoreboard. In the first inning Reed walked to get on base and scored on a Romero single to right field. In the second inning, JSU added two more runs to increase the lead to 3-0. Jasmine Warren, a pinch runner scored on a Tahlisa Blosser. Arianna Smith scored on a Reed single.
JSU improved to a 4-0 lead in the third when Nave scored on a Romero single. Ole Miss cut the lead to 4-2 in the fifth inning. The Lady Tigers scored its final three runs of the game in the sixth. Arial Siegel, Reed and Blosser scored on a Nave triple.
Jackson State will return to action Friday, April 30 when the Lady Tigers face Alcorn State in SWAC action at the JSU Softball Complex.
