DID YOU KNOW? On May 23, 1998, Elisha Marshall became the first female to win a national championship in North Carolina Central University history when she won the women's 100-meter dash at the 1998 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Edwardsville, Illinois.

A six-time All-American, the senior from Fayetteville, N.C. native finished the race in 11.81 seconds to earn recognition as the top women's 100m sprinter in the NCAA Division II.

"It was a perfect ending to my senior year," Marshall said moments after making history. "First graduation, and now a national championship."

Marshall was inducted into the NCCU Athletic Hall of Fame in 2004.

Since Marshall's feat, two other Lady Eagles have earned the top prize in collegiate head-to-head national competition.

On March 9, 2002, Katerina Glosova won the women's 800m run at the 2002 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston. The senior from the Czech Republic posted a winning time of 2:08.73.

On May 26, 2006, Jessica Mills won the women's triple jump at the 2006 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Emporia, Kan. The freshman Thorofare, N.J. native recorded the ninth-longest triple jump in NCAA Division II Championship history with a leap of 42-feet, 6.75 inches (12.97m), becoming the first Lady Eagle to claim the nation's top honor in a field event.

As part of North Carolina Central University's Centennial celebration, the NCCU Department of Athletics will post sports history facts from the institution's first 100 years to its official web site, http://www.NCCUEaglePride.com, every week during the year-long observance.

Did not know that.  . .

We're classmates, and we both were in the FSU Pre-College program together.  Good stuff!
