Smith makes history in Miles College Purple Marching Machine Band.

By Johnny Adams

Alisa Smith made history by becoming the very first female drum major of the Purple Marching Machine at Miles College on April 8, 2017.

Smith received a scholarship to march in Miles College Band located in Fairfield, AL upon graduating from Bullock County High School.

While in high school Smith played basketball, softball, and an instrument in the band.

During her senior year at Bullock County High School, Smith enjoyed being a drum major in the Mighty Marching Hornets Band.

She is currently enrolled at Miles College as a junior and she is a member of the Tau Beta Sigma National Honorary Band Sorority. Smith is currently pursuing a bachelors in Criminal Justice. Smith said she always dreamed of being a drum major in college and now she has brought that dream to a reality.

Smith said, “I just want to thank God for everything he has given me and has planned out for me.”

Alisa Smith is the daughter of Brenda Austin and Steven Smith.
