DURHAM -- One more game on a hostile court far from home, and N.C. Central‘s road-warrior act in men‘s basketball will be over.

At least for this season.

The Eagles, 3-25 in their first season in NCAA Division I, visit their 13th different state tonight when they face Patriot League member Colgate (13-13) at Cotterell Court in Hamilton, N.Y., at 7 p.m. in the first men‘s basketball meeting between the schools.

""They‘re going to be a very physical team,"" NCCU coach Henry Dickerson said of the Raiders. ""They‘re not overly athletic, but they‘re well-coached, they play hard and they execute. Inside play and rebounding are going to be crucial for us.""

Colgate, coached by Emmett Davis, is looking for its school-record ninth non-conference win of the season.

Kyle Roemer, a 6-3 junior guard, leads Colgate with 15.1 points and adds 4.5 rebounds per game, followed by 6-7 senior forward Kendall Chones (11.4, 5.2). Chones, who has 999 career points, is the son of former NBA star Jim Chones.

Colgate has a North Carolinian on its roster, as 6-4 sophomore wing Tim Pounds (6.3, 2.3) hails from Dudley.

Charles Futrell (16.4, 7.4) leads NCCU‘s scoring, followed by Bryan Ayala (13.0, 3.1).

NOTES

-- Dickerson said this is one of the Eagles‘ few road games this season that is not a ""guarantee"" game. Colgate will play at McLendon-McDougald Gym next season.

... After tonight‘s game, the Eagles have a three-week layoff before taking on Winston-Salem State on March 15 at the RBC Center in a game to be played in conjunction with the MEAC Tournament.

Hot-shooting Raiders clip Eagles

From N.C. Central News Release
 http://NCCUEaglePride.com

HAMILTON, N.Y. - Colgate blistered the nets in the first half to open up a 15-point cushion, then held off a second-half charge by N.C. Central to claim a 77-69 victory on Cotterell Court.

In the first half, Colgate (14-13) shot 66.7 percent (18-for-27) from the field, including 77.8 percent (7-for-9) from beyond the 3-point arc, to take a 50-35 advantage into the locker room.

The Raiders pushed the lead to 18 points (73-55) with 6:22 left in the contest, but N.C. Central (3-26) ran off 12 straight points to narrow the gap to 73-67 with 3:31 left.

Colgate made all four of its free throws the rest of the way to keep the Eagles at bay.

Kyle Roemer led Colgate with game highs of 20 points, including 4-of-6 on 3-pointers, and eight rebounds, while Daniel Waddy added 13 points.

N.C. Central had four players in double figures, topped by Bryan Ayala with 19 points. Charles Futrell contributed 14, all in the second half, while Michael Glasker and Tremain Holloway added 10 each.

"One More Game left with Winston-Salem State, On 3-15-2008, at 4:30 PM, in Raleigh, NC, at the RBC Center, during Championship Day at the MEAC Tournament.

A Good Old Fashion NCCU vs. WSSU heated In-State (2nd most hated) Rival Showdown.
         clap            clap

Bring It On ""Eagles"" and ""Rams""!!!

P.S. Oh Yes, the NCCU Eagles Basketball teams (Men & Women) will be much better next season.

Let‘s Go Eagles !!!!!"

Better Recruitment, for both teams. Both Teams were very young this year.

The women lost only two players and the Men only lost one.

I am told that the two, of the best, young ladies on the team, who were suspended on all of last year, from the women‘s team, will most likely be back next year.

The men have already signed two very good recruits for next year.

Things will look up for next year.

Take care!

"Especially if my ""Eagles"" get a chance to schedule a Basketball Game with your Aggies, next year, Dex                      lol

Besides, with our awful Men‘s Basketball Team this year, the Games played with Narfolk State and Coppin State were VERY close. In fact, NCCU should have won all of them. I say that to say this. Coppin State is beating several MEAC Basketball Teams during the last part of the MEAC Season, lately.

That means that NCCU can compete with the MEAC with one of our worse teams ""On Paper and the Basketball Court"" in years.

So, yes, things will look up, regarding the NCCU Eagles‘ Basketball Future via the MEAC.

I still think that the NCCU ""Eagles"" can and will win the MEAC Tournament, much sooner than most people think, after NCCU‘s D-1 transition and  MEAC Probationary period. By that time, NCCU should have re-built into a much better Basketball Program.

I still think that had NCCU‘s men‘s team been able to play a MEAC Conference schedule this year, NCCU would have won more than a 3rd of its MEAC Games with the team NCCU had on the floor, this year.

I think that Savannah State would have had a very good chance, to have been in the MEAC‘s Championship Game this year, as well. SSU Basketball program has come a very long way, from awful. So will NCCU‘s.

Take care!"

At least we were not 0-25 this year.  Not winning a game will be worst.  Dex should know about that.  lol

New Jersey Tech went 0 - 29 this year.  That scrolled across the ESPN ticker last night.  It was the first time a Div I school had ever done that I believe.

Didn‘t an A&T team under Coach Hunter go 0-26 or very close to that?

We went 1-26 in 02-03. I That‘s not the same as 0-29 so I don‘t understand the point of the comment

"that was over two seasons, I believe normchow.  The NJIT broke a record for single season futility.

But the worst record is CalTech; who last year broke a 200+ game losing streak."
