Tulane University is expected to announce today at a 1 p.m. news conference that it will join the Big East Conference for the 2013-14 school year, according to sources close to the university. Tulane is currently a member of Conference USA.

Memphis, SMU, Central Florida and Houston are other current Conference USA members who are set to join the Big East next year.

There will be East and West Divisions within the new Big East alignment. Among current Big East members, Rutgers is leaving for the Big Ten, and Syracuse and Pittsburgh are leaving for the ACC.

More details to come throughout the day.

As a person who grew up on the Big East and played in the league. They need to disband and form a a league without football or have members such as Providence, Georgetown and St. Johns join Atlantic 10

There was discussion about the basketball-only programs dissolving the league to attempt to form a new national basketball league.  I guess that's out of the question.

Although Tulane doesn't bring a historically strong football program, this is a good move.  NO is the nation's 50th TV market, Tulane is solid academically, and they've got a place to host the Big East football championship now.

I have no idea what ECU brings to the table, but I'm happy for their fans that they finally got their wish to rejoin their old CUSA conference mates.  Sucks for ODU and Charlotte though.  lol

San Diego St and Boise St stated last week they are going back to the Mountain West, because of the New BCS format.

............interesting comment.

I believe Louisville and Rutgers are playing for the Big East championship this weekend, and neither team is ranked in the top 25..........wow!  Shocked

I like Charlie Strong, and liked Rutgers when Schiano was still head coach, but neither one of these teams is deserving of a BCS slot this year, and that is exactly what the winner will get.

Oh, well...

The Big East is about to become a mid-major conference if they survive.  Now you've got Cincy, Louisville and UConn all lobbying the ACC for membership.

Good for ECU...
They were better off in C-USA IMO.  Cincy should reapply for C-USA.

C-USA is weak in football along with SUNBELT

They need to start campaigning before they become the SWAC of FBS football  nod
