Answer the question.

The question was asked on The Jack Gravely Show this morning.  They were discussing what Mitt Romney said.  Does that explain the op for you?

To answer your final question, I might be wrong, I thought the government's obligation was to protect all of its citizens.

Not entirely. How was the question/discussion framed?  That's such an open ended, obtusely angled question with many layers. That's why I asked to explain your question or position better.

Why was it only centric to the poor?  Was the same questions/scrutiny on the middle or upper classes? What about other socio-economic demographics?

'87, only the poor was mentioned.  I can't help you with the other classes.  I can't quote all the calls.  Basically, it was against Romney.  One or two of course brought up welfare and the working poor.

I know it it open ended.  The question asked on the show was open ended.

If you choose to answer the question you will have to do so based on the information provided.  You are free to change your answer if more or better information comes after your answer.

Y'all,

This guy tells someone to answer the question while he refuses to do so in many, many case.

. . . take care of the poor?

Depending on interpretation, it could be argued, FROM THE BEGINNING that the US govt had a responsibility to promote the general welfare which would include the poor as well as others:

Brainwashed is:
Inability to offer rationale and explanations OR to engage in substantive discussion
Inability to offer counter arguments to points offered by those who disagree
Blind acceptance of others' assertions EVEN AFTER the underlying "facts" are refuted
Frequent Fallacious arguments

Y -

I better understand the op but an really weary of talk shows that throw our these open ended questions to enflame and incite its ratings.

I struggle with the "take care of" phrase in the context and guise of the question.
On the surface, one might be inclined to say "no". But not fully understanding why they are faced with that predicament muddies the proverbial waters.

Me personally, I take accountability for my actions. Unless there is a disabling aspect to them, I feel most should do more to better themselves. I have a good friend who must choose between meds for his kid or food. Note that he and his wife are engineers but because of their sons Pre-existing health condition their new employer would not cover their son under their plans. They spend approx $1k/mth on insurance and meds. Tough situation but they aren't looking for handouts either.

'87, you assumed the talk show threw out that question.  The question was asked by a caller to Jack Gravely.

Once again you did a horrible job of clarifying especially after I asked you to do so...

Devin - chicken or the egg question for ya. Did the govt create a system that actually cultivated poverty or was poverty non-existant until these systems were created?

This could be a rather curious side discussion to the thread
