That is talent at every signed position.  TALENT !!!!!!  Notice no one is posting, too busy with video's.  My neighbor has been here twice with excitement.  Thanks Coach Frazier.  It appears you have done an excellent job in selections. Most impressive group I have ever seen at NCCU.  These guys will be winners, I'm sure.

Frazier, Eagles land ‘good mixture’ of players
 http://www.heraldsun.net/printer_friendly/17368360

The Herald Sun 02.01.12 - 07:53 pm

BY JOHN McCANN
jmccann@heraldsun.com

DURHAM — Tired of talking about N.C. Central losing close ballgames because the other teams were better positioned to play grown-man football, Eagles coach Henry Frazier III and his staff scoured the country in search of legitimate, big-bodied players and found some.

NCCU got written commitments from nine offensive linemen, five defensive backs and five linebackers on Wednesday’s national signing day, Frazier said.

“This is a solid recruiting class here,” Frazier said. “We definitely addressed all our needs, definitely got some good, young players I think we’re going to be able to develop, and we’ve got some I think that can come in and play right away. It’s a good mixture.”

The biggest need for the Eagles was on the offensive line, and addressing that is welcome news to veteran players such as wide receiver Geovonie Irvine, a playmaker who will benefit from guys who can buy time so the quarterback can get him the ball.

“It all starts up front,” Frazier said about his incoming linemen. “With the exception of Carl Jones, the center, they’re all 6-3 or bigger.”

Still, Jones stands 6-2, 273 pounds.

A founding member of the MEAC in the early 1970s, NCCU left in 1979 to join the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association when the MEAC began competing on the Division I-AA level, now known as the Football Championship Subdivision.

The 2011 season was NCCU’s first as a full member with the opportunity to compete for MEAC and NCAA championships, but it also was NCCU’s fourth straight losing campaign and Frazier’s first at the helm of the program that went 2-9, 1-7 in the MEAC.

Time and again after losses, Frazier would talk about how his squad, particularly by the time the fourth quarter rolled around, just couldn’t compete with the physicality of other teams.

Those beatings had some of the Eagles hanging their heads, and Frazier vowed not only to bring in bigger players but also to go after young men who had the will to take the challenge of rebuilding NCCU football.

“The measuring stick was (that) we didn’t recruit nobody that didn’t have other offers,” Frazier said. “So everybody that chose us, they had choices, they had options and that was important to me.

“I didn’t want (any assistant) coach bringing no kid to me that we were his only option. So we knew when they chose us, they chose us over someone else. All these kids had other options to go other places, and they chose us.”

One such player is Matthew Goddard, who is expected to give NCCU quarterback Jordan Reid a run for his money.

NCCU also received a commitment from quarterback Malcolm Bell out of Richmond, Va.

Last season, Reid as a redshirt sophomore backed up senior quarterback Michael Johnson. NCCU also has redshirt freshman Quenton Rucker in the mix.

And while Reid will have a leg up on NCCU’s other quarterbacks in terms of familiarity with the offense, the job under center isn’t automatically his, Frazier said.

“No question; Matthew Goddard is on campus now,” Frazier said. “He’s a junior college transfer, and we like Matthew. We like Jordan. They’re going to fight it out this spring.

“It’ll be wide open for those four guys. Whichever one wants the job, has the most composure and can lead, he’ll be our quarterback next year.”

Frazier ready to put '11 behind

The first thing N.C. Central football coach Henry Frazier did on EagleTalk Radio recently was apologize.  No, Frazier hadn't been caught with a hooker or a teenage boy in the shower; he was taking the blame for a disappointing 2-9 season.

There were high hopes in Eagleland when Frazier and his $250,000 salary came to town in 2010. Too high to be realistic by some. But when you've had a down program for so long, any change can bring about unreasonable expectations.

Still, nobody expected 2-9, least of all the "turnaround specialist." To make matters worse, N.C. A&T wasn't one of those two wins.

"I want to apologize to our fans and alumni and student-athletes that I didn't do a better job in getting us prepared and winning more football games, because the bottom line is it comes down to winning, and we didn't get it done on the field," Frazier said. "I thought we did lay a foundation for what's to come, but when it comes down to wins and losses, we have to do a better job as football coaches.

Frazier said he expects about 35 recruits on National Signing Day (Feb. 1), which is starting to take a life of its own.

One area fans will be anxiously waiting to see is at quarterback. Redshirt senior Michael Johnson is gone, and although he leaves as NCCU's third all-time career passer, his approval rating among Eagles was tenuous at best.

Frazier, a former quarterback at Bowie State, always praised Johnson in public. But a new era will soon arrive. However, don't expect Clark Kent and his cape.

"We're looking for young men that want to take on this challenge. That's going to come in here and say 'Hey, I want to put this program on my back,'" Frazier said. "It's going to take some guys with a special mindset, and we're going to find them. We're not looking for guys to come in and say I'm the greatest thing you guys have ever seen and then don't want to be disciplined. Once we identify those guys we want and they commit to the school, we're going to take off.

"We got hit with a couple of body blows, but we're going to get up, and we're going to find the best college athletes."

That bothers me much.
In-state players help sell your program.  I've said this plenty of times before.  Not one player from Fayetteville or Charlotte on this list.

Fayetteville and Charlotte have been a hotbed  from which many former athletes matriculated.  I was told that our coaches visited the schools there several times and made themselves known--but the senior cupboard was bare in reference to getting a kid who could get in school and predictors of finishing.  Frazier and his staff went after the best kids available per skill levels and academics and found them where they were around the country.  He lost some talent locally, and that's OK.  What he got IMO was better in attitude and conviction to be winners which will translate to a better atmosphere.  It translate from "I" am the savior to "WE" are the savior.   We are better.    WE ARE BETTER.

Concerns expressed in re to funds securing all these troops (out of state) not be a worry.  They would not have signed them without the funds.  This was a joint effort on the part of the Chancellor, AD, and the coach who was extended  $$$$ to get what was needed to enhance his program.  Yes we would have liked more local kids being a part of this rise, but like those we signed, wanted to leave home.   That's fine with me because either way, we win.

No, you concluded too fast.  50 miles is our close neighbor, who is going to taste this wrath, we are a power to deal with in the conference.  You are an archrival with a good team, game of interest, which we all enjoy, but we'll be on the long end of the score this time. We expect no more, no less.

Yeah I heard we lost a few of the in-state guys.  And don't take my statement as a complaint. . we still have a few left to go, from what I understand.

Scholarship dollars dont come from an endless well.   There are limits, and indeed we need to be careful. If it cost twice as much to get an out of state student time we need twice as to be donated.
