Yahoo's (unscientific) poll had this result:

Quote
Yahoo! audience reacts: 63% say Obama made the case for a second term
At the end of the speech we asked the Yahoo! audience if they felt Obama had made the case for a second term: Of the more than 16,300 respondents, 63 percent said he should get another four years.

I thought he did an excellent job and I liked the feisty attitude he showed.  Now, he has to follow up and stick to his guns, which I think he will in an election year.

I was shocked that Krauthammer, on Fox no less, said that it was not a highly partisan speech, which surprised him and IMO voided the Romney and Gingrich pre-speech talking points.

What did y'all think about it?

I do not see anything wrong with keeping American jobs here.  I would like for the administration to get out of some of these free trade deals but liked what he said about keeping jobs here in the country.  It seems like to me the GOP leaders had problems those lines in the president's speech.

I truly enjoyed it. It was not filled with a lot of hopes and dreams, but with concrete, common sense solutions to the problems that we have. It spoke about solving the issues and not just continuing them. It hit the GOP smack, dap, dead in the mouth. There really was not much to dissent with. It was as everyone keeps saying, COMMON SENSE.

THE PRESIDENT LAID OUT A CONCRETE AND REASONABLE PLAN TO GET THIS COUNTRY BACK TO WORK AND INVEST IN OUR FUTURE.  BASED ON THE PROGRESS THAT HAS BEEN MADE TO DATE, HE DESERVES A SECOND TERM.  THINGS REALLY ARE BEGINNING TO TURN AROUND ON JUST ABOUT EVERY FRONT. HE ALSO MADE A GOOD CASE POINTING OUT THE BASIC INEQUITY THAT HAS PROLIFERATED IN THE LAST 20 YEARS.  THE RICH HAVE GOTTEN RICHER NOT AS A JUST AS A RESULT OF THEIR EFFORTS, BUT PRIMARILY AT THE EXPENSE OF THE MIDDLE CLASS.

SPEAKING OF HIS POTENTIAL COMPETITORS IN THE FALL, GINGRICH WAS A LOBBYIST AND ANYONE WITH AN OUNCE OF SENSE CAN SEE THAT.  HE WAS A "HISTORIAN" FOR FANNIE MAE?  I SO WANT TO SAY "N*G** PLEASE,!.   DO YOU REALLY THINK PEOPLE ARE THAT STUPID?   ROMNEY EARNS $42M IN INVESTMENT DIVIDENDS FROM OFF-SHORE ACCOUNTS OVER THE LAST TWO YEARS AND PAYS ONLY A 14% TAX RATE?  YET HE CLAIMS; "I WORRIED ABOUT GETTING A PINK SLIP",  "I ONLY MADE $300k LAST YEAR IN SPEECHES, BUT IT WAS REALLY NOT A LOT OF MONEY",  " I LIKE TO FIRE PEOPLE, OH I MEANT I LIKE TO FIRE PEOPLE WHO DO NOT PROVIDE THE SERVICES THEY SAY THEY WILL",  AND NOT TO MENTION THE PHOTOS OF HE AND HIS BUDDIES BURNING CURRENCY FOR FUN.    DO THESE PEOPLE EVEN HAVE A REMOTE CONTACT WITH REALITY?

It is not enough for the democrats to just win the White House but also the Congress, governor's mansions, and state houses.  Or else we will see a repeat of the last two years.

I BELIEVE THE POTUS HAS "COAT TAILS" LONG ENOUGH TO DO JUST WHAT YOU SUGGEST.

I thought it was good. Now it's time to execute with precision. And I still want to see more pressure applied to Congress to reduce spending by 6-10% per yr until we have a balanced budget.

POTUS did well last night

They cannot depend on his coat tails.  In '84 Reagan won by a landslide, but the democrats nationally won almost or over 60% off the elections that day.  In '86 the GOP lost the Senate.

The democrats will have to work to raise money, get out the message, and get out the vote this fall.

I thoroughly enjoyed his speech.  The sheer genuineness you get when he speaks is enough for me to get out and vote.  As I listened so intently, all I can think about is the uneasy feeling President Obama must have knowing that he will be up against either Mitt Romney or Newt Gingrich for re-election.    brickwall

EB: I  too would love see his adminstration withdraw from these free trade agreements and  be promote goods and services that are made in America..  He finally sound like progressive foward thinking Democrat like Lyndon Baines Johnson, not boring old centerist like Clinton... His aims and goals for future could definitely make this country unto next century...

Thought it was an excellent speech. I'm geeked for the fall debate. You know he is going to show up and show out.
