Why do Black conservatives want government to intercede on abortion because abortions disproportionately affect the Black community but don't wont government to intercede on other matters that disproportionately affect the Black community.
Wildman, I'll take a crack at that one. (Based on the approach presented in the thread "How to Debate Politics.")
Their position is that first and foremost, life - innocent life - is a gift from God/Yahweh/Jehovah/Allah and is therefore not to be taken by mere humans. They believe that each of us individually and collectively thru our institutions, has a responsibility to protect innocent life.
Whenever life begins - conception or 3 weeks or whenever - they believe that laws regarding taking an innocent life should apply and that govt should not enact ANY law that contravenes that sacred principal. They see "choice" as a crime against a pre-birth human, which the law should not condone. Consequently,
they would disagree with your framing of the question. They DO want the govt to withdraw - by repealing Roe v Wade. They see the Roe decision as an imposition of govt against "supreme" law.
So, life trumps everything else. If, in fact, abortion affects one group or another more, that is coincidental. They use the impact on Blacks as a way to show that they care about Black people and as a recruiting device since most Blacks are religious and most theology, it seems, is against abortion.
Unfortunately, as you point out, once the Black baby is born, Conservatives seem to lose interest in that life. And, in fact, Conservatives, whether Dem, Repub or otherwise have actively worked to limit the life chances (segregation, voting rights, etc) of Black babies for decades upon decades.
But you asked about "their" position and that last is just my perception.
