offtopic If these students love GA so much why didnt they stay in the state of GA and help build up one of the 5HBCU programs in the state of GA??? shrug

Its not their love of GA, its their love of FAMU and the 100, thats all they know and want to know when it comes to HBCU marching bands. SWD, Stephenson, ML King, but specifically, SWD is like a feeder school for band students who want to go to FAMU and be in the 100.  Thats why you have soooo many down there at FAMU in the band. It has almost become somewhat like a legacy, if you will.

Trust me, they aren't thinking about being in the band at any of the Ga HBCU's. I think many of the high schoolers look down on the Ga HBCU bands and feel their high school band is better....I ain't touching that one.  Lips Sealed

Back when I was in high school, MANY of the local high school kids who went to school in the AUC wanted to be in Morris Brown's band....and many of them were even as high school students. Atlanta's Booker T. Washington was THE BIG CHIEF of marching bands back then.  In Dekalb Co., it was Walker HIgh SChool, aka the LIL Morris Brown, who was the baddest marching band in the DEK [Dekalb Co], later after Walker closed, it became McNAIR and that tradition continued and then it was SWD and the FAMU influence.  Dekalb Co. marching bands have been marching circles around City of Atlanta high school bands for a while now.

Ok.... My God I have had enough of the smoke and allegations... and the suspecting and the saying "we have things on this or on that person" I am really ready for people to either PUT UP OR SHUT UP  Roll Eyes

I'm just ready for the truth to be displayed and the guilty ones to be dealt with so people can grieve and begin healing and we can put this God awful tragedy behind us. nod

Well, you might as well get used to this, PMist....its an ongoing investigation and until ALL of the cards are laid out on the table and the investigation is over and the guilty parties called out front and dealt with, this is what you're going to see. EVERYONE is an expert on EVERYTHING related to this [or so they claim or think or post] and it will just be more of the same til its said and done with.

Hell, we're still getting news about EDDIE LONG....so, relax relate and release, this story isn't going anywhere for a while now and neither are the folks who you say should PUT UP OR SHUT UPlol

Another sad by-product of this is there are several HS kids here in the Atlanta Metro who may be in jeopardy of losing college scholarships because of the suspension of the band programs in DeKalb.

My point is that very LITTLE hard evidence is being placed out there at the moment but there is TONS of over reaction going on everywhere like its the first time people have heard of hazing. Im just over all of the smoke, deflection, and allegations. I WANT FACTS. Till then what is the point taking up all this time and space over strong hunches or feelings?  Roll Eyes  And YES I am aware a life has been lost, which is why I am ready to get to the core of this and stop swimming in the lake of allegations.

They have to audition for music scholarships. Practice and perform and you have a good shot.

Can you VERIFY Red Dawg being @ Tuskegee?
Do you actually know someone in RDO that was a Piper?

With the number of students that TU has traditionally attracted from GA in general, and the Metro Atlanta area in particular, this is no surprise to me.

Hopefully they attended the meeting that was held down on the yard last week concerning hazing and related activities, and are fully aware of the consequences.

This is getting crazy.

Yeah, this is starting to get bad. But hazing isn't going to stop. But don't get rid of bands because of a few idiots among them.

Red Dog Order--ain't this some mess! Some ghetto, stupid, mess at that! shrug
Kids (and some parents) priorities are definitely off and not together. I doubt being in the band or Red Dog group is going to mean anything on a resume. These kids and their parents would be better served learning Chinese Mandarin instead of putting all of their time into band.

How about proper English.  Or table manners.
