Lambuth is NAIA but they would be a top 20 team

Branj,

Not sure I understand - we're talking about where they are currently, not what they would be right? How do we KNOW they would be a top 20 team? We don't do we? That's the problem...IMHO.

Some of you guys are so naive.  This will continue and you will accept the rational that they give you.  THEN you will try to blame yourself and our programs because they told you to.  They are laughing at us right now. Do you know why?  Because they know we have no other options and no one on the committee will fight for us. This is a damn shame. 2 teams from the SIAC and CIAA is not too hard to imagine.  Period.  FVSU got screwed. Case close. Period.

FVSU SOS was better than North Alabama. FVSU 56.4705. North Alabama 55.5555. FVSU Won-lost percentage in conference 77.77, North Alabama 62.50, FVSU Won 7 D2 games and lost 2, North Alabama won 6 D2 games and lost 3. FVSU lost to no .500 0r below team, North Alabama lost to teams that at or below this criteria. Their was nothing wrong with FVSU schedule.

I would not put the Gulf South or the SAC conference on my schedule. I would put team out of Super Region 1 or Super region 3 on my schedule. That way head-to-head and common opponents would not count against me during Regional Ranking.

The facts speak for themselves.  Can anyone argue against them?  This wins the debate.

UNA won 8 D2 games because Lambuth is counted as D2. 8>7. If you look at it that way the numbers are very close. UNAs win over DSU (#2 in the region) is what put UNA over the top. Also you need to look at Opponents Opponents SOS, that will push UNA and FVSU even closer.  When the numbers are that close they look at your body of work. Much like the NCAA committee does for March Madness. They look at your key wins and losses. FVSU had 1 signature win over Skegee. 1 win over teams >.500. UNA had 3.

I think they rate a good win better than a bad loss. (As far as playoffs are concerned the fact that you can beat a good team is more important than you losing to a bad team)
Also UNA's SOS was better than FVSUs.... from the NCAA's own stats (so this is what THEY'RE USING) http://web1.ncaa.org/mfb/2010/Internet/toughest%20schedule/2_9games_past.pdf

Hopefully Morehouse, ASU and Shaw do their things during the playoffs.  FVSU, I know this is a hard pill to swallow, but a lot of our schools wish they were in your position.   I like the way you guys are taking the Eagle approach to this though. nod  lol

I've finally crunched the numbers, and I do see where UNA just had an insurmountable amount of points for FVSU.  I cannot figure out however, how Morehouse remained in the 5 position.  Ironically, had FVSU played and beaten a D2 regional school; they would have knocked UNA out after reordering due to head-to-head.

However, I don't feel that it was fair that GSC schools were allowed to count Lambuth in their W/L scenarios.  It also looks like UNA was boosted by being able to count Glenville State in their calculations. In my calcs, FVSU and UNA were apart by 0.007.  crucial

It appears that when it comes down to the wire, we already know what the end results will be. Next year, the SIAC  conference will be split, and HBCU's will play other schools, that are winning teams, in other conferences. However, I feel that when we, the SIAC, play other HBCU's who are winning teams, another factor will come into play that will discriminate the SIAC when it comes to post-season games. Because even with this season, GSC and SAC schools are taking into account the record from the previous year, as if that is a factor fo determining this year's season. There are always ways around rules. Can't get discouraged, just have to play by THEIR CHANGING RULES in order to stay in.
