I have been pondering about this topic, the committee has not been logical in their selection of the SIAC conference. From looking at the past to the present, the committee has always weighed heavily when it comes to the HBCU's post play. Never has the committee selected three HBCU's to be represented in the playoffs. Fort Valley State University has been dealt a low blow by the committee, and it is my belief that they know what they have done and are doing. This committee has formed somewhat of a union to lessen the degree of the SIAC due to the fact that they say we do not play anyone of high caliber. Even in post-play appearance  refs and the committee do not make proper calls, often times calling penalties on the band and cheerleaders. This same committee that states that we need to play schools outside of our conference make their own rules when it comes down to the wire, like with FVSU. Even by going outside our conference, I do believe that the D2 Committee will find fault in something else. They are now stating that their reason in their selection this year is based upon last years' records of school; however, in the rule book, nothing is stated about a previous season to determine the present season. I do wish that proper letigation is taking place to rid of this trickery behavior.

really, did you think three siac school were going to the playoffs.  if you had won your conference we wouldn't have this thread.  what you really want is a second chance.  if you had won your first chance your school would be in the playoffs.  grow up.  suck it up.  look forward to the pioneer bowl.  if it makes you feel better you can skip over to mamby pamby land where you can get a life and a tissue.

There are several things that hurt the SIAC and HBCUs went it comes down to playoff time and getting in and also getting a decent seed.

1. Stupid Conference mandates- These mandates kill your OCC schedules. you only have 2 open slots that we usually fill with anoyher HBCU who usually isnt that good. Looks like we've gone out and scheduled Lincoln, Langston, and Concordia-Sema instead of bringing in schools from the GSC, SAC, or other d2 schools. How well you fare against d2 competition is key. If 9 of your wins are all against conference teams and noone steps outside the conference, how do we know how good you are? shrug

2. Playoff Records- The playoff record for the SIAC hasnt been anything to smile at over the past few years. We all struggle in this area. Winning will solve this, and until you win in the playoffs noone will ever respect the conference or the team(see reason 1).

3. Schedule- Fort Valley had 10 games this season. 9 of them against SIAC and their lone out of conference game was to a terrible SSU team. Their schedule was not strong enough to make the eyes of the 'powers" even blink, hell it didnt eben make me blink.

EWC is just outright nit good and Concordia is okay. Lambuth has scheduled GSC teams and beat them, and have done it on a regular basis. Lambuth is NAIA but they would be a top 20 team in d2 so the committee is going to look at them differently than EWC and Concordia who dont have the on-field resume' of Lambuth.

Lambuth is transitional D2 and the others are not. W/L counts toward D2 W/L but SOS doesn't count.

Actually, I didn't see in that handbook where it says that Lambuth didn't count for SOS.  As far as I can see, any school that counts toward D2 W/L also counts toward figuring out SOS.

No need to dwell on it now.  It is what it is.  You have a team that deserved to go but didn't.  I guess you need to focus on your next challenge now.   shrug

FVSU SOS was better than North Alabama. FVSU 56.4705. North Alabama 55.5555. FVSU Won-lost percentage in conference 77.77, North Alabama 62.50, FVSU Won 7 D2 games and lost 2, North Alabama won 6 D2 games and lost 3. FVSU lost to no .500 0r below team, North Alabama lost to teams that at or below this criteria. Their was nothing wrong with FVSU schedule.

I would not put the Gulf South or the SAC conference on my schedule. I would put team out of Super Region 1 or Super region 3 on my schedule. That way head-to-head and common opponents would not count against me during Regional Ranking.
