If the college is to be resurrected, it up to alumni and others who have love for Morris Brown to do it. The rest of us are trying to keep our own little leaky HBCU boats from sinking.

I am in agreement with the NC cave bear.   Shocked

For MBC to come back to life, the alumni need to step forward.  The alumni should have held their BOTs and the school's admin accountable when they were put on probation in 2002.  I recall the news stories regarding MBC's situation during that time.   Sad  The admin made light of beingon probation.  IMO, the President did a lot of grandstanding and not enough work.  The end result was the loss of accreditation.

tusme,

The last I heard, MBC had around 200 students.

Jay Thomas,

People here or at least the ones I speak with know EXACTLY how I feel and where I stand on this issue. nod People have also made up minds on this issue so there is no reason to go there as it would serve NO beneficial point.

I am simply moving on and people can say what they want. nod

I really do have a story to go with that, but I will not because it would take us even more  offtopic than commenting on the lack of proper grammar used in a certain poster's comment.

Pmist son, I really don't know your position on this, but my feeling is that much of the responsibility should be squarely at the feet of alumni. I speak because we Shaw alumni were headed down a similar road a few years back. We had an inept president,  and a board that was clueless. When alumni tried to raise up, they knocked us back down by telling us that we knew nothing about the inner working of a college. And to make matters worst, they tried to blame everyone except themselves. Students don't pay bills, alumni don't give..........If it had not been for  a few brave alumni who dared to stand up and call them out, we might be in Morris Brown's situation. We used what little leverage we had to oust the president, and call out the board. Once we did that and started peeling back the layers of the onion, we discovered how jacked up the leadership really was. Shaw had some major administrative problems that did not become public. Being a private school many things never see the light of day.  So in closing, MB closing and reopening is in the hands of the alumni. The alumni allowed it to fail and it is up to them to correct it.

And that is it in a nutshell. This topic has been rehashed more than an NCCU thread [shuddup, Eagles  Grin  ] nevertheless, we never see anything other than what we have already read about the issue.    So really, nothing new here.   no

Capler,

To be honest, I do not have any more verbal fight left in me on this subject.  The last time this subject was brought up I realized that people will say what they want to say and it does not matter if its factual or not.  If the person feels as though it is juicy enough and will sound good off the tongue they will say it.  Its human nature and I accept it for what it is however I will try to explain my position this one last time.

What I have found to be the case in regards to this situation is this, it happend back in early 2000s and here we are in 2010 almost 2011 and the same people that were involved in this have been replaced or have left; however people will not let this go. I also realize that the alumni situation is about the same as it is in OTHER HBCU's so I do not see how the alumni, local  AME churches here in Atlanta (CME's as well) can do more than what we are now to bring MB back any quicker, nor do I understand why people expect MBC to do what their alumni can't or won't  in terms of getting alumni participation/contribution back up to where it should be (and yes we are doing what we can, not sitting by as some people would imagine the case to be). MBC is supposed to solve a issue that others have not solved? What part of the game is this?  We are always open to suggestions, however suggestions not hidden agendas seeing how this is part of the reason we are in this situation in the first place.

I have also found that some people that complain about this situation were the last to give to MB in the first place and even if MB came back today and things were great THEY STILL WOULD NOT GIVE A DAMN DIME AND THEY WOULD STILL COMPLAIN ABOUT SOMETHING. All of this is fine bear, I accept it for what it is but I say this, if you will not assist, GET OUT THE DAMN WAY and do not hinder by continuing to wash the college's face with this same dirty a-- rag! It only hurts the students there now and it does not allow the college to move on. That is neither right or fair.

Let me also say that I applaud Shaw University for doing what is required to improve their situation. I love ALL of my HBCUs and I am glad the situation is resolved.

That being said I'm simply done with it. People will think what they will about this situation but I will continue to fight the good fight when it comes down to MBC by sending my couple of dollars and helping to fund raise by participating in what they come up with. If people want to help we will welcome that as well. I will not continue to look at the past at this point because its not helping the present and its not giving us much of a future.  I will do what some people can't or won't do and that is offer forgiveness to this institution and do what I can to see her back on her feet.

Let the other people do as they see fit.
