Main difference?  We couldn't move the ball or score last year.  We can do both this year.

Correction:   Main difference.....Blount (aka Captain Obvious) was your coach tiptoe

Only partially true.  It was a lot more deeper than that.

Rams, what is your heart beating for, you scared.  I to believe that this is going to be a close and exciting game with the Eagles coming out on top.

Eagles 35

Rams 3

Even with the game (or should I say beatdown) against VUU I think WSSU had the energy and excitment before the game and during the game.  That's one of the problems with my team.  We have to get some excitement/energy.  OK back to the topic.... the excitement will be high on both sides as well as the energy and the crowd should be awesome  I think it will be a close game decided by a TD.

Come on now... you have it as a blowout.  You know that won't be the case.

WSSU 28
NCCU 21

Are you sure about that?  I was thinking it wouldn't be blow-out between VUU and WSSU but I was wrong... Cry

One thing folks may sleep on is Winston's kicking game.  They have a DI quality punter and DI quality FG kicker.  Both were major reasons Winston beat us last week.  Mose Rison hasn't beaten a team lately that would be considered on Central's level.  I would consider Winston one of those teams.  If NCCU doesn't win this one, they have App St, A&T, Ga State, Hampton and Bethune-Cookman next.......this game this weekend could be the beginning of the end of the tenure for Mose Rison at Central.  This is a tone-setting game for Central's season.  If they lose  Lips Sealed tiptoe

Valid points as always NSS. But I got three words for ya and I am done until after the game...."Central's De-Fense!"

Does anyone know if the World Cup Vuvuzela trumpet horn  is banned from football games.  I hear there were a number of them at the WSSU vs. NCAT game...

Yes, I believe noisemakers are prohibited by NCAA guidelines at football games.

Winston is a team that has been coached up.  They believe in themselves and this guy Maynor isn't arrogant.  He talked up the game between Winston and A&T and A&T loved the bank deposit from game revenue.    After that build up, I even attended.   He thinks he will kick NCCU to the curb too,  so come and see if he can.  It should be a very good game with his open attacking offense and they are well coached on defense also.   He does not have to say too much with our small stadium of 12K at best to fill er up.

No. We have a few intelligent Aggies on the board.  I know it's unusual, but we must give credit where it's due.  When they are right, we must acknowledge it.  BTW, what about all the Eagle defectors cheering against us last week?  Now explain THAT!!! Grin

If the aggies were playing against Team Bin Laden I would consider pulling for them.

By the way, perhaps we should've brought those jumbptrons & extra seats in for this game too!

Uh  no! .... I think that's what you call an oxymoron. Now if that was to ever happen, you not suppose to acknowledge it in open forum  no ... instead, you pull them to the side and tell 'em privately ..  angel keep it on personal level.

Hey, I was there but I remained neutral ... now there were a couple Eagles in section that did cheered for Aggies and some for Rams -- all were dressed incognito so I guess it was okay.  Lips Sealed

Eagles hope to sustain momentum vs. WSSU
http://www.heraldsun.net/view/full_story_sports/9486106/article-Eagles-hope-to-sustain-momentum-vs--WSSU?instance=main_article

09.10.10 - 11:44 pm

BY JOE JOHNSON
jjohnson@heraldsun.com; 419-6667

DURHAM -- Tonight's game against Winston-Salem State is one of three games that N.C. Central is expected to win.

The other two are against North Carolina A T and whoever the Eagles are playing for homecoming.

But first things first.

NCCU is coming off an impressive 59-0 victory over Johnson C. Smith, a former rival in the CIAA.

Now the Eagles are getting ready for Winston-Salem State, a team they thought they were following to the MEAC. But while Winston-Salem State stepped back from its move to Division I, NCCU has continued on that path.

Yet the rivalry remains strong.

NCCU reserve linebacker Anthony Sharp, who is the special teams captain for the Eagles, said playing the Rams is one of the games he looked forward to this season.

"We got a big win in the first one, and we want to carry that momentum in against Winston-Salem State," Sharp said. "It showed what we are as a team.

"One of our goals is to beat Winston-Salem. They're going to come in fired up. Even though they dropped back to Division II, they've got some great players. It's going to be a battle, and the records don't matter."

Adding some spice to the rivalry will be a handful of players who transferred to N.C. Central from Winston-Salem State during the past year after WSSU decided to pull out of its transition to Division I Football Championship Subdivision and return to Division II.

The five players -- who are eligible to compete at NCCU this season -- include redshirt freshman quarterback Jordan Reid, redshirt freshman defensive lineman Charles Goodwin, redshirt junior offensive lineman Julian Gray, sophomore wide receiver Lamar Whidbee and sophomore defensive lineman Chase Tripp.

The series with Winston-Salem State is as tight as it can get, with teams playing 43 times since 1945. NCCU has gotten the better of Winston-Salem State in recent seasons, including a 18-10 victory a year ago to take a 22-21 lead in the series.

The Eagles have won four of the past five, with the only loss in this stretch coming in 2007. Before NCCU began to dominate the series in 2004, Winston-Salem State had won the previous six in a row.

Not that NCCU's offense needed a boost after wiping out Johnson C. Smith, the Eagles will have Michael Johnson back under center as the starting quarterback. Johnson was held out of the opening game while NCCU waited for his annual clearance from the NCAA, which he received on Wednesday.

Johnson's backup, Keon Williams, threw four touchdown passes in the opener against the Golden Bulls.

Winston-Salem State (2-0), under first-year coach Connell Maynor, already has surpassed its win total of a year ago after only two games. The Rams opened with a convincing win over Virginia Union and followed that with a come-from-behind win over N.C. A T a week ago.

NCCU coach Mose Rison said he can see Winston-Salem State has improved greatly in a short amount of time.

NOTES -- N.C. Central is offering discount-priced tickets of $5 to tonight's game for past and present U.S. military personnel. U.S. veterans and active military personnel may present military I.D. or other proof of U.S. military service at stadium ticket booths to receive the discount.

WSSU, Central expect big crowd
http://www2.journalnow.com/content/2010/sep/11/wssu-central-expect-big-crowd/sports-college/

By John Dell
JOURNAL REPORTER

There was potential for tension in the Maynor household this week between Connell Maynor, the football coach at Winston-Salem State, and his wife, Meryl, a graduate of N.C. Central.

Maynor hinted that he thought he had things under control -- "She knows who pays the bills and where I'm working now, so I don't think I'll hear any of that N.C. Central talk" -- but joked that he would have considered having Meryl sleep on the couch if she talked up her alma mater too much.

WSSU (2-0) and Central (1-0) will renew their rivalry at 6 p.m. today at O'Kelly-Riddick Stadium in front of what is expected to be a sellout crowd of 10,000.

Both teams have high expectations for the season, and knowing that this could be the last game between the two for a while, because of scheduling issues, gives added meaning.

"They are aggressive," Maynor said of N.C. Central. "Their offense can put up points, and they have played just one game and it was against Johnson C. Smith (a 59-0 win), so they are kind of like us in that you don't really know how good you are because it's early."

The point total against Smith was more impressive given the fact that Central did it without its No. 1 quarterback, Michael Johnson. He was held out because he hadn't been cleared to play by the NCAA. He received clearance earlier this week, and will start tonight.

"We're glad to have our starting quarterback back on the field…," Coach Mose Rison told the Durham-Herald Sun this week.

Maynor said he doesn't know Johnson's strengths, but that it will be important to keep him off balance.

"I haven't seen (Johnson) play, but he's the starter, so he's supposed to be better than the other guy," said Maynor, referring to Keon Williams, who had four touchdown passes in the opener. "I don't know that we are preparing any differently -- we just know we have to play solid defense against them."

Central was 4-7 last season, with an 18-10 win over WSSU, and has won four of the past five in the series. The Eagles have six starters back on defense, including tackle Teryl White, who played at North Forsyth, and several back on offense.

Rison said he wasn't shocked by WSSU's 21-14 win over N.C. A&T last week.

"I give Coach Maynor a lot of credit, he's done an outstanding job already," Rison said.

"They've had two ballgames and have won both of them, and they had a big win over A&T last week."

Kameron Smith, a transfer from Navy, will make his first start at quarterback for the Rams.

He replaced Octavious Hawkins against A&T and scored the winning touchdown on a 7-yard run with 41 seconds left.

"To say I'm not happy with the 2-0 start, I'd be lying," Maynor said.

"I'm ecstatic about our start and the way our guys are playing.

"Everybody is saying you already won more games than last year, so I'm happy for those guys."

Alright Rams, it's about that time.  Praying that everyone has a safe trip today.  I am like Cheer on this one, I really don't know who is going to win this game.  But hey, I love saying the Eagles are going to win each and every game.  Let's go Eagles! clap
