......The stadium project will be no small feat. University officials have an ambitious goal of creating a 30,000-seat, mixed-use stadium. They want it up and operational in the next year and a half. A budget of about $50 million is being proposed for the construction of the stadium.

Harris said because the university's timeline is so aggressive, ASU is not looking to alumni to help raise the funds to build it, but to help pay off the debt that will be incurred to complete it.

This is definitely an aggresive schedule.  The article did not state that funding had been secured.  Do any of the Montgomery natives know if the city is proposing to assist with the stadium funding?

Best wishes to AL State in this endeavor.

I don't think so.  The city recently announced a plan, funded by bond money, to upgrade Cramton Bowl and to build an multi-sports indoor facility adjacent to it.  The renovations to the Bowl are to start when football season ends and both projects finished by end of 2011.

News spot on WSFA TV reports ASU pays no rent to use Cramton Bowl..city will loose about $100,000/year in parking and concessions but Mayor believes this will be made up.  A Sports Commission is working to secure events for the Bowl and the to be built multi-sports facility.

ASU officials believe now is the time to build due to low interest rate and reduced contruction costs
